What "Traditional Knife" are ya totin' today?

Nice photo, and unique lanyard bead! 🤣

Also, during my time away, I received a generous "Back to Work Care Package" from my friend @Jack Black
He is so thoughtful and generous, a true Porch Regal Member. Thank you so much, Jack.
Oh ya, check out the engraving on the letter opener. 😁

That’s great! Well done, Jack.

Your Opinel testimonial is eerily similar to what runs through my mind every time I use one of my Opinels. "If I want to cut stuff, why do I ever reach for anything other than this one??"

I’ve had that same thought when using an Opinel, GT.

Interesting knife. I’ve always liked those particular handles they use. 😎

I took some of my Spanish knives on vacation with me this year to get some newer photos.
Here's a Taramundi I bought in Sevilla:

Here's a Laguiole I bought in Denia, although it's almost certainly made in China:

Hope you’re having (had?) a nice vacation, GT!

Been on the road since Friday, going through Montana and up to Grandad’s grave. A little shot of the Fort Peck spillway.

I tried to meet up with @paulhilborn but our schedules didn’t work out. Made it over to Minnesota to meet up with an old Marine buddy and do some fishing. He’s holding a Northern I caught on an ultralight rod jigging for blue gillsView attachment 1901424

Another day of fishing tomorrow before I head further east

Sounds like a fun trip! I bet that pike was fun on an ultralight rod. 😁 Long before I lived in MN, we used to come up here for an annual summer fishing trip. We’d try to catch some walleye, but we weren’t very good at it, so we’d end up working the banks for largemouth or smallmouth. The first time I caught a (rather small) Northern, I thought I had a huge bass! 🤣

In my watch pocket more days than not, my favorite EDC slippy...View attachment 1901667

GEC did a great job on those!

I carried the #35 Camp & Tool Knife today. I didn‘t do much with it except cut open a package of weed eater line, but I already determined I like it. I can’t decide if I like it or the Cattle Knife better; it’s a good thing I have more than one pocket.😜

Awesome photo! 🐻🔥🧯

I had a #13 Whittler and a MAM with me today.

Nice Nautical theme, GT... both look great. 🤠
Thanks, John.

Good Morning Porch Friends
Starting my day with the Charlie Lamb and we will see where the day takes me...

Ebony knife early
Keeps day from getting squirrelly!

A real reamer, rather than the pathetic, dull, tapered wedge many of my SAKs have.
An actual tool rather than an accessory. Nice touch, Victorinox.View attachment 1900656
I always admire your classic heavy-duty coffee mug, Jeff, in addition to your knives.
The cottage we rent for vacation has new matching coffee mugs that are similar to yours and quite desirable:
mark.Vmain.fordsmug.jpeg

Just got up and have a pot brewing. We have a Keurig coffee maker but sometimes, we like it brewed the old way. I'm even going to have it in a Wagon Wheel Cafe coffee mug but will have to use a straw to keep the coffee from leaking out of my split lip and running down my chin. Usually, I use a "to go" cup and don't require a straw when doing that. I'll be totin the Red Linen Micarta Bull Nose for the day.

Cool mug and Bull Nose, ED!

Notable pair, Jer!

Reminds me of going into antique stores, and seeing things, I still use.
New & old can become blurred.
😁

You gotta love something from Canal street cutlery . I enjoyed getting the chance of this one , being a retired firefighter it seemed like something I should have in my collection 👌View attachment 1901002
That's a stellar stockman!

Couple of winners, Steve! Awesome jigging on the Voos!

It's never let me down. 😁
Good to have a stake you can trust! ;)

This comment cracked me up — but, is much appreciated!!! 😀
Yesterday I happened to be reading a Stephen King novel that was written almost 10 years ago, and a character used "whack" that way. I hadn't heard that for a while, and thought I should use it.

Thanks, Gary. That dough is what I got home with after a day at a flea market with two of my brothers & a sister in law. I think I spent $60 total on 3 items, admission and lunch.

Sounds like you had a good and productive time, Greg!

5K qs, that fixed blade with the US on the handle is part of a US Army mess kit, consisting of the mess kit, fork, spoon and that knife. John
That's more than I know. I believe they date to 1941-45 or so, and I think I saw somewhere that they've been reproduced with a marking that shows they're repros, but I don't remember what the mark was. @Johnnythefox has more dating info, in another thread, I think.
Thanks for the info, John and Jer!

Couple of Aces, gents!

I have to give a shout out to Mr. Eric Albers. This knife is grand. The blade is perfectly centered and tight as can be. The grind is excellent, and the tip is a work of art. The walk and talk is outstanding. The backspring is flush in all three positions. The jigging is superb. Don’t give up on trying to get one. It took me many attempts but was certainly worth it in the end. Kudos Eric, @ea42 !
Congrats on tracking down a first-rate Albers, LT!

Thanks Gary, and I hope you enjoy your vacation. Looking forward to a few pictures of those beautiful boats you always see up there. 😎👍
Thanks, Todd; I'm getting to the point where a "do nothing" vacation is VERY enjoyable. Walk a few miles each day, read a lot, sit in the sun (or shade) and watch boats, birds, and people. I don't have many wooden boat photos so far; here's the best I can do tonight:
dock.wk1.woodboat.jpeg

Thank you. Yes, you are correct, it is burnt boxwood! No modifications.... It's as I purchased it..... Not quite as nice as your Juan Carlos Quintana though!
Thanks for the info; that's a unique blade shape! Thanks for the taramundi compliment; I like to think of them as Spanish friction folder Barlows.

Made Monday a Double Barlow Day with the Mr Jack Black Bagpipe Ebony and some Rosewood. :)
Lovely pair of Lambsfoots, JJ!

Great and memorable story! I’m impressed how you remember every kernel of detail!
😁 And I didn't even tell you about how the forklift fell on my toes one day at lunch!

...

I do too, Gary. Each one has a special story.

Two nifty knives, Gary. The shadow laguiole is cool-looking 👍
Thanks, Bart. That Laguiole was incredibly inexpensive and has no "pedigree" at all, but it's really a joy to carry and use.

I carried my Ettrick today. We were putting electronic ear tags in the calves.

oRMaVjK.jpg
Your Ettrick is a cool knife!
I don't even remember how our dairy cows got ear tags. I wonder if the vet did it after some kind of vaccination, or if the AI (artificial insemination, not artificial intelligence) guy did it the first time he "serviced" a new cow.

Carrying my Hartshead Barlow again, and a Random Tuesday RR Sowbelly 🙂 Have a good day everyone 👍

View attachment 1901451
Dynamite duo, Jack! RR sowbelly stockman knives are some of my favorites.

605,607, and 606 for Tuesday ................... since I couldn't make up my mind which two. 😊

Loom-fixer is what I've always heard for the Case. Now it's the Whale-fixer for me. After all, I'm more about blubber than weaving.

(Do my photos look OK lately - no worse than usual? I've always resized my photos before posting, but recently I've been using 640x640 pixels rather than th 800x800 I used to resize to, and the result is to reduce photos that come from the camera between 1 and 2 megabytes down to around 100 kilobytes (instead of the approximately 200 KB I had been using).)

More Spanish knives for me.

😉👍

Pictures look GREAT, GT !!!
... and you sure picked a nice spot to take them. WoW
Your previous pics always look great too. Never so big I have to scroll 4 times to get from top to bottom GRrrrr LOL
The knives and pictures look great Gary.
Thanks for the kind words and the confirmation that the photos still seem fine at the smaller size, guys!

Thank you sir! I thought boxwood to be much to plain for a long time, but up close it can have some interesting grain.

That MAM looks like a wonderful knife and I'm very fond of friction folders. May have to add one to the stable.

Thanks for the info; that's a unique blade shape! Thanks for the taramundi compliment; I like to think of them as Spanish friction folder Barlows.

It is a bit unique and I came across another one that I probably spent too much on.... o_O Hopefully coming soon to this thread soon. :D

I was thinking the same thing, that they are a Barlow in a way, with a longer bolster!
The venerable Pony Jack rides off into tonight’s sunset again.

I love the Pony Jack! I have one of the first runs.... Wonderful knife.

I left Minnesota a day early and managed 98% two lane roads again through some really neat country and small townsEBDCF2EC-EC6C-41F9-83B7-F57312AFBCA9.jpeg1F45CDBF-8534-4565-9D2D-DA3D1B8D96AF.jpeg784F9A6E-9D2F-4395-B08D-DD0DC4335898.jpeg

The bridge got me across the Mississippi into Wisconsin. The surface is completely open like a grate and I remember as a kid there was one we used to cross all the time that scared the heck outta me.
