What "Traditional Knife" are ya totin' today?

XRkjrbm.jpg

Jobillo wood ages beautifully! I have turned this wood on a number of projects, bowls, beads, and bottle openers. At one point when I first started to collect Gec knives my goal was to get one knife with all the different woods I have turned. I remember when Gec used all kinds of different woods for their covers. I do cherish and use all of the ones I was able get. A good day of rest to you and yours.

Victorinox Tinker - popped the top of a cold bottle of Frostie root beer. Had this knife for 24 years now, and it needs some new scales. Also cut up some peppers for some guacamole, and opened a package of elk for dinner.
Victorinox Executive - goes pretty much everywhere I do
Boker Congress - new to me this week, still putting an edge on it. It was sharp out of the box, but the edges were very coarse and not an angle I would tolerate. Bought it to be a good whittler, which requires better angles and edge finishing. Beautiful knife, though.

315 315 ~ nice old C10! And color coordinated camper. Is that your rig, Jim?
Jeff, I could only wish!!!! My buddy and I stopped at a car show in Spring Green Wisconsin yesterday. There were some pretty cool cars, old mid 50s Chevys and mustangs that really catch your eye. There were a couple of Ford GT’s that would be awesome to drive but the one old vehicle I would love to have is the only one I took a photo of.

Carving club today. Evidently I was nominated to instruct today. I guess it's time to show the old boys what a sharp pocket knife can do.šŸ˜‰

Great pic :D
Printed on the tube of the 09 Esquire: "The pinnacle of pocket knife quality in the early 1900's was a gentleman's Sunday knife handled with genuine Mother of Pearl."

Have a peaceful Sunday, folks!

Hope you had a great weekend Mike :)
Thank you very much, Jack!!! They did work well together. :)

Quite the cool and tasty pairing for your Sunday slicers, a tasty looking treat as well!;)šŸ‘šŸ‘
Thanks a lot JJ, I'm kind of crumbled out right now! :D
I grabbed these two from Sheffield for my Sunday slicers. :)
Nice pair of Lambs JJ, good choice my friend :)

Some quotes from last Thursday and Friday that were temporarily lost in the busyness of returning from vacation and trying to catch up on "real life".
Have a good day everyone šŸ™‚šŸ‘

Your big wood lambsfoot and little stag Albers make a good pair, Jack!

Thanks Gary, and I agree about the MT’s Spey blade. It’s the most used secondary blade for me too, so easy to pinch open.

Thanks Gary and nice Trapper !
Beautiful Trapper, GT. 🤠
Thanks, Steve & John.

Quality quartet! That Alox Classic with the "woven" covers is an eye-catcher.

"Oh, they expect that!"
They may expect that, but do they expect the Spanish Inquisition?? I think not.

Exquisite ebony WCLF, John!

Oh boy! I wish I could run in a race! I get worn out just trying to keep up with my grandkids!
Going with the Boker today. Not a new pic, I'm on the run! Oh wait, maybe walking at a quick senior's pace......

That's why they have races for different age groups!

Notable pair; I especially like that #83!

Thank you, Gary. You like that antique hillbilly moonshine jug?
Yeah, that's a nice jug! I have one similar to yours that I've had for over 50 years.

Couple of radiant knives!

Beautiful mini trapper Jim !!!!! I wonder how many of us has actually used a Tube Repair Kit . Back in the early 50's we used our's to repair our bicycle tubes and old thrown away car tire tubes to use in farm ponds around us .

Harry
We used to try to patch our barn boots using those tube repair kits - mixed results.

Speaking of False Fall, nothing reminds me more of Autumn than a red bone Case Canoe with an actual etch. I just love looking at it and will always have one in my collection.

bigfish64 bigfish64 , that is a great looking Northwoods!
What a classic Case canoe, LT!

Had these in my bag today. View attachment 1904142
Splendid pair of knives (and slips), Todd!

Nice collection of Lambsfoot Manhole pictures, GT. 🤠
We need a knives on manholes thread…

Great pics!
Thanks, John & Pete. Manholes are much more interesting than I realized.

Great pics Gary

An Old Friend, and a fairly New Friend today, my AC Lambsfoot SFO, and a French Alpin recently gifted to me by @Ƃchillepattada :)
...
Thanks, Jack.
Handsome couple of knives!

Did you try and pry them open with your knife?🤣 on a serious note, those are two fine lambs you have there.
Thanks, Jeremy.
I haven't tried to open a manhole cover with a pocket knife yet; waiting for GEC or Victorinox to come out with a manhole opener instead of a bottle opener.

Lovely Lambs !
...
Thanks, Steve.

I agree, GT. They aren’t put together quite as well as an Opinel, but still nice enough knives.

Sometimes I sit and drink coffee and meditate on the good and evil of possessions and wretched excess. I wonder if I’d be happy giving away all my knives save for a farmer and pioneer or two. Carrying basically the same knife every day. Using all the tools. Accomplishing tasks that need accomplishing, slicing the salami that needs slicing, spreading the pimento cheese spread that needs spreading.

I probably would.

Maybe next year though…
Lot of wise words in your post, IMHO!

Thanks Gary. I don't know very much about Taramundi's either, but there are some very fancy versions available. Yes, it's a liner lock tab although I don't find it very necessary. I wasn't able to find that style in a friction folder. I guess you got lucky!
Thanks for the info, Steve. I feel pretty lucky in my knife-life!

The store I was in yesterday had all three of those Boker ā€œfish patternā€ knives. I get weaker every time I go and see them. Don’t know how much longer I can hold out. 🤣
I’m kinda tempted to get another one but I probably shouldn’t 😁
I thought it might! šŸ˜„ Can’t wait to see the finished product. šŸ‘
We’ll, here it is. I just added 4 feet to the back. Had to build one side at an angle because of the path. Not quite done but useable. Needs a couple more braces, screws, and paint.

Good luck to your daughter!
Thanks, my friend!
I hope nobody was filming me and my bodily gyrations trying to coax her ball away from the gutters! 🤭
Another lazy day today. Just gonna putter around the shop and shed. I'll break out the Sharpmaker and touch up some knives. Leftover Navy Beans and cornbread for lunch.

I keep mine in a drawer right under the cutting board in the kitchen. I don’t tolerate dull knives for cutting food.
I threw that dvd in the garbage. How hard can it be?
Have a great day, Ed!
Hope your daughter had a great outing
Oh, she did indeed. Her Mom and I did as well.
As long as ā€œgreat outingā€ means having fun! If you’re looking at pins knocked down…

Have to say that the SO volunteers are super fine folks!
Thank you.
I have speculated about what could have lightened that side or darkened this side, but maybe somebody like me got it cheap because the mismatch was an original mistake.

Think maybe it sat in a store display, and one side got bleached by the sun?
