What "Traditional Knife" are ya totin' today?

The Scout has been a great work knife since it arrived. Took the front bracket off my police seat and painted it a matte black on my Triumph. The screwdriver help separate the metal bracket from the seat bracket, pried the cap off the spray can and also helped in getting a bedroom ready for our Great Niece.

I bet you're excited to see her. 🤠
Gorgeous pair of pocket knives... I need to add a Northwoods to my small collection some day.
Very excited, we had a great visit, but she was exhausted from the trip. We have a big weekend planned. 😉👍
This is my box of "users" that I pull my carries from most days...

These are the knives inside the box, they get carried often, but the Lambsfoot on the right hogs the pocket...

Now that’s a sweet looking box of knives John. Great patterns. 😎👍
😀😀😀

Your Northwoods pairing today is killing me, as well! Truth be told, that IRJ of yours is what inspired me to try to find one for myself. It’s a real beauty. 😉
Thanks, I have John JohnDF JohnDF and Jon Jon0385 Jon0385 to thank for those beauties, and your new IRJ is stunning. 😎👍

Wow. That’s a nice one. 👍
Great looking grouping. One pair probably more helpful than the other.
Thanks. One pair is good for moving and gathering cattle the other is good for cutting stuff. Just have to remember to use the right pair 😁
Look what I Toted to work...

How’d you get the phone booth in your pocket?🤣
Cute pups Bart, those knives aren’t bad either. 😉👍
Thanks, Todd.

Thanks, Jack! Yes Mom and Dad were happy to see me as well as the food. At fifty miles away, it’s just far enough that daily life keeps me from visiting as often as I’d like. I shoot for a couple of times a month, and this time, taking food was a good enough excuse.
Good for you Jeff :)
Great choice Jack. 😎👍

Chilling on the deck waiting for my daughter to get home. She’s been in Hawaii since the end of May. Can’t wait to see her. 😊View attachment 1916761
Thanks Todd, I hope you had a great reunion :)
Thank you for your very kind words, Jack!!! I really like the French Ivory too! :)👍

Wonderful Wednesday combo of a super slicing Lambsfoot and a beautiful Barlow; I always have a Lambsfoot handy for it's unmatched precise cutting ability!😁👍👍
Many thanks my friend :)
It's a Double (wood covered) Lambsfoot Day for me, including my favorite Bagpipe Ebony slicer from Jack Black Jack Black . :)
Yay! Happy Double Lambsfoot Day JJ! 🎉😊

Have a great day everyone :) I'm carrying the same as yesterday :)

Splendid Sunday piano keys pair, Jack!
(I always enjoy singing hymns with piano accompaniment.)

I was admiring that agricultural knife the other day Gary
Thanks, Jack. It's another simple, inexpensive knife that I think deserves some admiration.

Marvelous muskrat!

Wonderful Rosewood HHB, GT. 🤠
Thanks, John. I've decided my favorite lambsfoot is whichever one I'm currently carrying.

Distinguished Taramundi, Steve, with the endcap, shield, and "twisty" bolster!

You're welcome Gary. Not sure how much good it will do you. The Scientist is almost a grail Vic. They don't pop up too often and when they do there are folks willing to pay GEC prices for them. After I discovered their existence, I kept an eye out for year or so. Eventually, I had the brilliant, some would say reckless, idea of buying couple of used Explorers and Waiters with the intention of building my own Scientist. As these things are wont to do, shortly after purchasing the donor knives, but before embarking down the path of destruction, I stumbled on to this one for an eminently reasonable price and snapped it up. I think I'll eventually try making one out of the donor knives just for grins.
Thanks for "the rest of the story" on the Scientist, Mike. I have an Explorer, and I'm very happy with that "fat boy".

Thanks Gary !!! :)
Derrick Bohn had to sell me on it. He'd opened a thread here, in 2015, about how slow moving they were and he really couldn't understand why.
There was talk of blade rub. Some had it and some didn't. Mine does or did, very slightly ... if it even still does. I've gently "massaged" it a bit here and there.
And while I wasn't "hell bent" on getting one, I sure have been happy with the Northwoods Presidential. A wonderful traditional knife.
... but there are many wonderful examples of traditional knives ... and you too have a few, Gary
Thanks for the story about your Presidential, Jim.
And your two claims I put in boldface are true facts, for sure!

🥹 I never had a Speedo, even in my lifeguard/swim team days. They’re too,,,
graphic.🤮 But I do have waders…
Anyway, thanks for sharing your tactics!😆

You're welcome, Jeff - I live to serve.

Been carrying this one around. Perhaps someone could tell me a thing or two about it. I know the make is queen cutlery co. Out of Pennsylvania but that's about it.View attachment 1914036
That Queen stag canoe is amazing!

Both very cool, Gary.
...
Thanks, Gary. That’s very cool that you still have your first knife. I’ve never had a SAK with a knife but I’ve heard they actually work well.
Thanks, Bart. I'm sure happy and fortunate to still have that first knife!
I was very pleasantly surprised how well a Victorinox saw (and scissors) works!

Here's some WCSB on their Utility Knife, a VASTLY superior knife to CASE's Slimline Trapper but never as popular. It does not look like Stag nor does it pretend to be. Note the verdigris...but as I got it out of the drawer I'll carry it today, stunningly sharp too. Great W&T and no gaps or play, early c21st Queen D2 knives were very decent items.

Superb knife and a great photo to illustrate Queen's carved stag bone, Will!
I'm a big fan of the Case slimline trapper and find it to be a wonderful knife, so I was surprised to read your claim that your Queen "equivalent" is vastly superior to the Case. I'll have to keep my eyes open for a chance to acquire one for myself!

Round bolstered stockman have become a favorite of mine. My recent one is a Delrin Camillus #69. I have a older bone handled version that’s too nice to carry to work. At least imho. So my newest was a necessity. 😉
Thanks for noticing and have a great day.
:thumbsup::cool::thumbsup:

Thank you, GT. :)
There were two GEC models that I bought and sold or gave away early on in my collecting. But I really missed having an #83 and a #48. Then they got very hard to get ahold of. I was finally able to add them back into my small collection. Now I'm happy again.
Happy is always good! Thanks for the backstory on that pair; glad you could finally find them!

Same again,🥴 but a fresh photo!😜 View attachment 1914253
My weekend was spent canning. Saturday, I cooked up and canned 15 quarts of salsa ~ half mango salsa, and half black bean salsa. Sunday, I made two huge kettles of my version of V8 juice. Roughly 100 pounds of tomatoes, celery, beets, garlic, parsley, watercress, and spinach. I had to buy the celery because mine isn’t big enough yet, and the parsley and watercress because I didn’t grow those. That filled 11 half gallon, and eight quart mason jars. I ran out of time, so I stuck them all in the freezer for now. I use this juice when I make beef vegetable soup and chili during the wintet.

It looks like Dominico is going to be my size champion this year. There are more out there which will be over two pounds.View attachment 1914254

What we can’t eat or can gets given to friends.
Impressive gardening, Jeff, seed to salsa!

Notable pair for Micarta Monday!

We're staying at home today and will start putting the yard materials up for the coming winter. Scrambled eggs, sausage, and cinnamon raisin toast for breakfast. I'll use this knife while outside today. Some of you will remember it as the knife I used for my knife on a woodshed tin roof experiment to see how micarta stood up to the elements.

View attachment 1914426

It did just fine and cleaned up real nice. The micarta is a bit - just a bit faded but still nice looking.

My favorite BF experiment, without a doubt!

Paralysis is an apt description, I'm going to have to come up with a schedule myself!
Go for it! It takes some time to decide what kind of a schedule you want and to put it together, but you can control when you work on developing it, rather than feeling the "pressure" of time spent of daily knife choices. And I think it's a fun "project", as well!
