The whiskey stink of rot has settled
in the garden, and a burst of fruit flies rises
when I touch the dying tomato plants.

Still, the claws of tiny yellow blossoms
flail in the air as I pull the vines up by the roots
and toss them in the compost.

It feels cruel. Something in me isn’t ready
to let go of summer so easily. To destroy
what I’ve carefully cultivated all these months.
Those pale flowers might still have time to fruit.

My great-grandmother sang with the girls of her village
as they pulled the flax. Songs so old
and so tied to the season that the very sound
seemed to turn the weather.

I’ve had trouble exactly dating this knife but the color of the ivory and the three implements say 1870’s to the prewar period. It was given to me by my then girlfriends grandfather (RIP) at his home in France.

Did not have time to post yesterday's carry , but this is what it was . Did the morning , Clean up hickory nut hulls clean up with my 2019 Blade Forums Knife .

Today I am carrying a C.JUL.HERBERTUS locking jack that I picked up at the Badger Blade Show back in March .

Very Thick Stag . measured One Inch wide

Well Centered Blade , locks up tight , and no wobble

But has gaps and needed the blade touched up

I went to the show intending on getting some Heavy Stag and found it .

Are those Mullard re-issues any good?

Yeah man! My requirement for tubes is that they don’t break when they are pushed hard and they don’t overly color the tone. These fit the bill! They went in a JCM 800.



Hanging with the kids all day while we give mama a day to herself. Nice to slip the 14 in a pair of shorts.
