What "Traditional Knife" are ya totin' today?

Don't call me Johnny

Okay Spot😁😂
Nice carry mate.

Hammer Brand split back whittler today. Tight and snappy with pinched and lined bolsters, thin and near razor sharp blades. The thing is the handle covers aren't that attractive to me. Picked it up cheap on the big auction site a couple years ago and I don't think it had ever been used.
I dated it at the time but forget now when it was made, seems like it was the 40's or 50's but I could be way off. Solid knife though.

I believe it is a post 2004 offshore Taylor Hammer Brand.
Same shield as my Taylor 4 blade canoe Whittler.

Thanks for that illustration, Jiki. I had to get the loupe out and take a look just now. T.he stamp is crisp and clean and appears to be from the 1938-1941 vintage? If so that would make it the 2nd oldest knife in my meager collection.

Same '38 to '41 tang stamp, too.

'38 to '41 would be after Imperial bought they brand (along with NYKC, who originally had the Hammer Brand name, around 1933, when NYKC folded
I believe the vintage/antique Hammer Brand made by Imperial all had carbon steel blades. I'm not sure when Imperial went to shell construction on the brand. I know the later knive ('50~'55?) were shell construction, when Imperial-Schrade dropped the brand. NYKC made Hammer Brand had real bolsters.
Maybe the stainless blades, real bolsters, and the shield were Taylor's way of distinguishing the post 2004 Hammer Brand knives he had made from the old knives?

Still a good knife. 👍 Might even be "semi collectable". Taylor didn't have many patterns produced under the Hammer Brand name. There might have only been 1 or 2 runs of them. (I have no idea how many of each pattern were made in any given run.)
BTI isn't going to do a run of Hammer Brand. I asked.
The person I emailed with said BTI only has the Schrade, Imperial, Old Timer, and Uncle Henry brands.
I know Taylor bought all the Imperial-Schrade names in 2004. Did he keep Hammer Brand, NYKC, Frontier, Ulster, and the rest when he sold to BTI? (He didn't get Camillus and their sub-brands in 2007 when Camillus folded.)
Anyway, it is ... unlikely ... there will be another run of them.

Thanks Mike. 😎👍
Beautiful knife... but we need more pictures of that cool pen. ;)
Thanks John. 😎👍

The pen in my picture is a Retro 51. It was a gift from my buddy Jon0385 Jon0385 last spring. It has been on my desk ever since. Before I received this pen I’d never used anything but cheap disposable pens. I had no idea what I was missing. It’s a fantastic writing instrument and is a pleasure to use. Thanks again Jon. 😎👍
I’ll include more pictures tomorrow. 😉

Thanks JJ :) Yes, the BPS Savage helped out in the kitchen

Thanks, John. Storm clouds started rolling in as we finished up and I thought they might make for a good background.
Good Morning Porch Friends
I'm carrying my #14 for work and Two Blade Tuesday

Nice little 14, John. I'll bet the second blade gives it a much more substantial feel over the single blade.
These two are with me at work today. View attachment 1935732
That Case-Bose is a beauty, Todd.
Trapper today is a Case/Bose Wharncliffe trapper in some nice chestnut jigged bone 👌View attachment 1935750

Thanks for harsh'n my mellow.😁😁 Just kidding my friend, I appreciate the info.
Looks like you have all the right pieces to the puzzle. The shield, tang stamp and blade etch all are identical to your canoe pattern and there is no USA stamp to be found. I had my doubts to its age as it really didn't have the look of a 80 yr old knife but my knowledge of knife history is about .75 on a scale of 1-10. Fortunately the only false claim I made to its vintage was to my wife,( who really wasn't all that interested) ......... and everyone here who read my post yesterday. :)
Thanks again, greatly appreciated.

Here are a couple more of my favorite "work knives".
Colonial Forest-Master, my first knife ever, that helped me with all kinds of tasks when I was a kid growing up on a dairy farm in the 1960s:
