What "Traditional Knife" are ya totin' today?

Monday again! Can't go too many days without carrying my Eureka Jack! I do really like this knife!

Standard/Regular 2015 Buck 110 (on belt, behind the Hercules) and 301 (in pocket).
SAK Mini Champ (clipped to a custom hole in my belt.)
1936 to 1952 Imperial Engineers Knife. (Pen blade instead of punch/awl/reamer) clipped to 15:00 belt loop.
(I like the can opener better than the SAK's. So long as the facility's electric can opener refuses to open a can, it is my most used blade.)
SAK Hercules on a SAK metal belt loop, behind the 15:00/right hip belt loop.

I forgot to put the neck knife in the above picture.

I hope everyone has a great week.

Going to take a trip to the forest for five days. The blades I thought to bring along, from the top to carry in pocket, middle one on the belt and the bottom one as a camp knife hanging from the backpack. We will sleep in a log cabin, but something to baton firewood, to prep food and make kindling is needed. It may happen I could do with one or too, but we will see. This is also a way to test those knives.

Being stupid I left the Izula home and took a Brisa necker as a small knife. Being flat ground slicer it did not do well when I used it harder than I should making curls in a hard firewood. It lost it's edge in short time, so I'm going to get a short puukko-knife to use as a fixed blade pocket knife. The mini-tommi I have is a good knife, but too small. 75-80 mm blade with a 10-11 cm handle should be fine.

Of these other knives I would be hard pressed to choose the better. The Casström is shorter and very stout, reliable firewood splitter and makes curls well, but is a bit on a short side as a camp knife and the blade is thick to use as a food prep knife. The Brisa Nessmuk on the other hand does everything quite well, splits firewood, makes curls to use as a tinder and cuts foodstuffs about equally well. The original sheath is not good, so I will either make a new one or have somebody make it. Casström sheath is top notch leather sheath, so it beats Brisa in carrying also because of the compact size.

I got old Wilson upland hunting vest out that I haven't worn in years, and I found this Remington R-1 bird knife in the pocket. I forgot I had it.

Yup, when I can’t find a certain filet knife, it will be in my fishing vest.
But you’re lucky it wasn’t rusted! Either it’s stainless, or you didn’t bag any birds last time! 😎

And…both with the CBK which I’ve really been appreciating lately. I carry it in my pocket, with the dangler sheath hanging on my belt. View attachment 1947748
When I was a boy, I used my allowance and lawn mowing money for a subscription to Outdoor Life Magazine. Between that, and the Cabela’s and LL Bean catalogs, back when they were full of archery, fly fishing, and canoeing gear instead of over priced outdoor clothing for rich people to wear at Aspen and for mall adventuring. It was then that I read about the weird, but super efficient design of the D.H. Russell Canadian Belt Knife. Should have saved up and bought an original back then. Now, they are spendy and hard to find, and their official current maker is not cheap either. Well, I saw this Solingen, Germany made Ideal Products version on the auction site a year or two ago, and got it cheap. I know it’s not a real Russell, or Grohmann, but it works for me. Great Solingen steel, and nice rosewood, and after some work on my oilstones to fix the thick edge, it cuts very well. It’s much easier for me to pull it our while holding vegetables or twine in my left hand, snd not having to use both hands to open a folder.
I picked up Cold Steel's Canadian Belt knife a while back. These are like Rough Ryders - cheap enough to try a pattern just to see if you like it. The belt knife makes a good kitchen knife and, much to my surprise, the Roach Belly has become my favorite vegetable chopper.

I spent hours pouring through those and the Boy Scout catalogs, dreaming of outdoor adventures. 🤠

Got up super early this morning to sit in a tree in hopes that a deer would come by and allow me to collect some venison, no such luck.
Back home now for nap time. :) LT Wright stag scaled fixed blade and GEC 74 cougar clawed bone.

I hope you and all the other hunters on the forums find success before the season ends! Thanks for sharing
I agree, Pete. That one is very nice and fits in well.
Thank you, Jeremy! This is the only Northwoods I have that isn't a user yet and I just might keep it nice like this to continue to carry it on special occasions

No, it's stainless. And I have to go back & edit the post to read FILSON vest instead of Wilson. (Darn spell check!)
Here's a pic of Sandy, proudly posing with his first pheasant retrieve. It's from around the time I last used that vest, and he's been dead for about 12 years.
