Don’t be afraid to string a few days together without a daily change (and show them here, of course).
I’ve been doing that lately, and I seem to appreciate what I have a little more.
I almost always go at least a couple days, and lately more like a week. Probably part of the reason I get behind in this thread!
#35 and #74 today

I don’t think I knew (or maybe I just didn’t remember) that they made a two-blade #74. Looks like a nice knife!

I always enjoy seeing the Opignel, GT!
Same knife as yesterday, but I thought I’d share something that surprised me as I’ve never seen a patina develop so quickly. The boss brought everyone sandwiches and potato salad for a crew meeting. I grabbed a ham and cheese along with a couple of those little Heinz mustard packets. There was nothing to spread the mustard, so I used my Johnny on the Spot. I sat the knife down while I ate my sandwich (10 minutes time), picked the knife up to wipe the blade with a moist towelette, and this is what I found…
I’ve forced a patina before, but never has it developed so quickly…evidently those little Heinz packets are the key to a rapid change lol, I’m just disappointed. I want some color and not this accidental, dark, blotchy, and boring look.
Mustard’ll do it. Looks fine to me, but if you don’t like it just keep using it on other stuff and it’ll come around.
Use it more. It will all even out.
That’s honest, user’s patina, and I don’t think it’s boring. I think one can usually tell a working patina from a fancy pants pretty one.![]()
I’ve done a couple forced patinas with apple cider vinegar, and while I do like the even gray look, it’s not quite the same as the used it, cleaned it, oiled it, repeat “real deal.”
Interesting finish on the bolster and shield.
My bikes on 80,000 miles now and I did 50,000 of them, my last Kawasaki ZRX I did 90,000 from new on it.
That's with 2 separate operations that meant twice I had to learn to walk again let alone drive a car or ride a bike.
Anyway I cleaned my mike today and change the oil, this time without spilling oil everywhere
In my pocket my 82 Victorinox for any small jobs on the bike, its in lovely condition.
That bit of greenery is my favourite souvenir of my road trip.
I love using my old Britool spanner’s they are as good as anyone makes.

Couple decent ones for Sunday.
I forget how big those #98s are! I think that was part of the reason I passed on them at the time… what a terrible decision on my part!
