What "Traditional Knife" are ya totin' today?

He came from The Great Pumkin Patch of legend.

He glowed with a warm light on the anticipated night of haunting, All Hallows’ Eve, beckoning assorted aliens, skeletons, Batmans, fairies, and cheerleaders to come and freeload. I mean Trick or Treat.

But glory and fame are fickle and short lived. And the mold, bacteria, and fruit flies had taken a fearsome toll. So Jack O’ Lantern has gone off to the Great Compost Pile.
But never fear. His seeds will bring his progeny forth.9965F7AE-48DA-48B5-A4EC-B1E6F87B6D74.jpeg

Boys are out of school today so I took the day off to spend with them. Morning coffee in a new cup sent by a fine Porch member. Hope everyone has a good day.

So somewhere along the way I think I might have got some prejudices about knives and not realised it….I was on the run to a meeting and just happened to look at eBay, because of the addiction, and saw some photos of a knife with funky scales, brass liners and Solingen on the stamp. Not expensive and so I hit buy and carried on running….when I got back I googled the make ‘Old Ram’ and found a thread saying they are most probably made in China/Pakistan and I immediately wrote it off as a mistake/fake and one to be sold or chucked in the tool box.

Well it arrived and it is much better than I expected - solid well fitting scales, snap, brass bolsters and liners etc…the only downside to it is that the nail nick on the clip blade is too shallow and therefore hard to open without opening the other blade first.

I don’t why I am that surprised as I picked up a little green bone toothpick Rough Rider in a bundle of knives and the F&F is great…..

Anyway sorry for long winded post ….here it is…

Fine tuning my new S/H bike.

That pony jack cut the plastic I was trimming on my light bracket clean and easy.

I cut open the packaging on several deliverys for the bike with it as well, its a great all round workshop knife.

This time

1,fully insured (excess lowered)
2,carrying a massive motorcycle U lock,I spent ages finding a secure way to carry it
3,tracker under the seat stem
4,quick release front light
5,fixed rear light
6,better panniers more secure,I will use a grab bag inside
7,Q/R Spindles on seat and wheels replaced with locking spindles

Tommorow I have to go to the same place for treatment at the same day and time as it was stolen last time.

Whatever the traffic chaos I am driving, once biten etc.

It's great to see more people carrying pony jacks around, for awhile they seemed rather neglected.

You should trust your inner voice, because it’s right!
It is Camillus made ~ for Sears, Roebuck. Pre Craftsman trademark. Tang Stamped
HIGH CARBON.
It’s an interesting history. The Sears buyers had a reltionship with a man, not a company. So when he owned Camillus, Sears bought their knives from Camillus. When he acquired Shrade, and later, Ulster, that is who got the Sears business.

And that explains the close ties between those three companies as well. They often made runs of knives for each other. For example, there are Ulster made Old Timers out there.
👍 that's what I figured, I just didn't recognize the pattern or knife at all. I wonder who else they made it for.

Thanks Jack and double down on the thanks for the info you provided on John Blyde in the Guardians thread. I am getting the hang of restoration at the cleaning, buffing and sharpening level but mending wobbly blades and a complete tear down of a knife is still beyond me.
You're very welcome :) Fixing a wobbly blade isn't too hard, just squeeze the pivot together a little, in a padded vice, the pivot pin will now be proud a fraction, so give it a few taps with a ball-pein hammer, then lightly sand the area, and polish with Flitz
Striking pair Steve
Thank you, Jack. :)

That'll surely get the job done. 🤠
Thanks buddy :)

Pony Jack, Its the sort of knife you can imagine your grandad using and passing down to you with knocks and scrapes, the most valuable things are without price.
