What "Traditional Knife" are ya totin' today?

Going with this one today.

I usually don't pay very much attention to GEC models, but there are several models over the years that have definitely caught my eye, and these sowbellies with the clip/lambsfoot blade combo certainly fall into that "impossible to ignore" category!

Jer, that CRKT Daedalus is very cool! I waited too long to decide I wanted one, and now they're very "thin on the ground."

A Case red bone Mini Copperhead from 1970 and my red bone Peanut from 1965-69 for this Wednesday. 😊

Fine fall foto of your quotidian lamb, John!

I've had a busy last few months, with my wife being diagnosed with Guillain barre syndrome and then finding cancer. She's been through chemo and radiation, and physical therapy from the G.B.S. When she came home we had a nurse but only til noon, so I took a part time job so I be her caregiver. But now she's walking albeit with a walker for now, and almost fully independent at home. Thank God for his grace and healing! Last week she walked up a long hallway, through the lobby and back down the hallway at PT without the walker! First unassisted steps in a year! As things are getting better she has been encouraging me to become active here because she said I get allot of enjoyment here, and of course she's right!
Welcome back, David, and thanks for the update; your story is a real inspiration! I hope that the situation continues to improve for your wife and you!

I noticed the pocket on my overalls took on a peculiar looking bit of wear....
Ah that explains it.... well to be honest a 21 Bull Buster rides there quite a bit as well. 😁👍
I very rarely wear overalls (I have a pair of Big Macs from about 1972), but when I do, I've given up trying to carry a knife in a "chest pocket". Every time I have to sit on the toilet and the front of the overalls folds down, any knife in a chest pocket falls out!

Lambsfoot and a Whittler

Great grains!!

I knew you'd appreciate the extra effort. 😁
My purpose in life is to admire competence!

Sounds miserable. I sure hope you are feeling better now - hopefully you just got it out of the way early in the season and you’re done with it.
First time the annual flu shot hasn't protected me in 5 years, so I was probably "due". Pretty much over it now. Maybe the worst part was not being able to take advantage (until yesterday) of unusually nice November weather to take photos of those fine knives you sent me. (My indoor photos tend to be quite low quality.)

Gotta be storm ready tomorrow. Might as well get the canoe.

Great idea!!
Since life can brew up an unexpected storm almost any day, I tend to ALWAYS carry a canoe (along with whatever other knives I'm carrying).

Light enough for a picture now that day light savings is over. Had this one with me today. 😎👍View attachment 1983897
Striking Northfield Barlow, Todd! What kind of wood is that?

My latest acquisition and my first old Lambsfoot. It is was made by John Blyde, Sheffield.

Congrats on a marvelous find; the bone is outstanding!!

Nice amber colors in those Gary. 😎👍

Thanks, Todd.
I think that set of 12 Rough Riders turned me into a RR enthusiast for life!

Sublime stag on that knife, Joshua! Churchill, right?
(Another of the relatively few GECs that have caught my fancy; wish they'd make one with a spear main.)

Bear and Son, the etch reads white lightning, my bad for the horrible picture. I carry it about once a week and have found the scrimshaw ink bleeds some into the bone, it is supposed to be a moonshiner scene.
I know Bear and Son does not have the reputation of some other knives frequently discussed here but the two limited run slip joints I have are exceptional quality in fit and finish.

cheers,
Thanks for the additional info.

Riding out tropical storm Nicole
Hope the storm ride wasn't too rough, and that the Chief-carving goes well!

Yes, it has four blades. Clip, sheepsfoot, and spey, as well as the leather punch. That’s the one with the fancy spiral cut on the back. I think that, as well as the coined liner on the back means it was what they called “Premium Stockman”.

That is one funky foto!

Looking good, Alan! Is that a tulip tree leaf?
(I haven't been listing the tater skin RR you sent me among my carries the past few weeks, but it's constantly in the backpack I carry daily.)

Setting a trap for whatever decided to live nder my porch again. I tried a hotdog last night and managed to catch my neighbors partially feral cat. The game warden suggested trying cucumbers and lettuce as he bets it's a groundhog or a armadillo so we'll try that.

I'm going to try carrying this copperhead for a week. It's a weird one for me, on paper it's close to a perfect pattern, but I've never quite clicked with it, so I'm going to give it a try.
Best wishes with the critter and the copperhead!

Notable pair, Steve (as always)!!

So somewhere along the way I think I might have got some prejudices about knives and not realised it….I was on the run to a meeting and just happened to look at eBay, because of the addiction, and saw some photos of a knife with funky scales, brass liners and Solingen on the stamp. Not expensive and so I hit buy and carried on running….when I got back I googled the make ‘Old Ram’ and found a thread saying they are most probably made in China/Pakistan and I immediately wrote it off as a mistake/fake and one to be sold or chucked in the tool box.

Well it arrived and it is much better than I expected - solid well fitting scales, snap, brass bolsters and liners etc…the only downside to it is that the nail nick on the clip blade is too shallow and therefore hard to open without opening the other blade first.

I don’t why I am that surprised as I picked up a little green bone toothpick Rough Rider in a bundle of knives and the F&F is great…..

Anyway sorry for long winded post ….here it is…

Thanks Todd, we didn’t do much but both boys were happy to have a day to relax and not have their day off from school be full of things they didn’t want to do. Love the EJ today!!
Thanks Jeremy. 😎👍
You're very welcome :) Fixing a wobbly blade isn't too hard, just squeeze the pivot together a little, in a padded vice, the pivot pin will now be proud a fraction, so give it a few taps with a ball-pein hammer, then lightly sand the area, and polish with Flitz

Striking pair Steve

Thanks buddy :)

Those two go together nicely David :)

Many thanks my friend :) That's a very cool combination

That must have been wonderful Todd, thanks for the kind words :)

It's always good to carry an Old Friend :)

Beautiful photo of your Eureka, looks so crisp and clear. 😎👍
Thanks, Todd.
That's weird, you're only 30 minutes from me.
I planted that Main Street Maple last year, just so I could have some Fall colors... other than the Oak trees turning brown.
I think it has to do with age. The younger trees in the neighborhood are changing. Our maple is about 15 years old and is still completely green.
It must be hard NOT to carry that beauty. 🤠
I do enjoy it. Almost the perfect knife 👍In fact I carried again yesterday.

Dont know how you can go too long without carrying that one, but then again you have a lot of good choices 👍

Preparing for Sundays parade and remembering my Godfather WW1 Royal Flying Corp and my Grandfather Royal Navy WW2

"They shall grow not old, as we that are left grow old:
Age shall not weary them, nor the years condemn.
At the going down of the sun and in the morning
We will remember them".

I have decided to go for the one medal on parade this year, which is handy as I only have one(not counting my Nijmegan marching 200ks in 4 days medal). 🤣 🤣 🤣
Great pics :) I used to know an old feller, a family friend, who was in the Royal Flying Corps. He (George Lockeram) must have been very young, and would have been ground crew I think. He was still riding his Brough Superior in his 80's
Those fellers must have been in a lot of battles!

Thanks Gary :) It's been fun carrying the 301

It’s one thing when you know what you’re buying, but quite another when it’s concealed.
I had been looking for a Schrade 294, found one online. Turned out to be a 75th Anniversary edition, meaning it was made after Schrade USA was closed, and the new owners of the name were making them in Asia. I probably would not have bought it had I known, but the seller’s photos magically did not reveal the etch or the lack of USA on the tang.
Not a bad knife, though.
Kept searching for one, and after watching for a while, bought the one I’m totin today. This time I knew what I was buying. After an unusually long time to ship, I was happy to find a package in the mailbox. When I opened it, what I found was a Chinese made small stockman. I know there are some quality knives being made there, but not that one. Cracker Jack would have rejected it.🙄😁

The seller apologized, saying his daughter gad sent it, and thankfully, promptly sent the one I wanted.

I dig that bottom one, ok ~ both of them…
I can’t tell if that secondary is a punch, making it a harness jack, or a marlinspike, making it a sailor’s knife, but love the old bone!

Thanks Jeff, it's an British Admiralty Pattern 301 Navy issue clasp knife :) I picked it up, many years ago, for £5:thumbsup:
