Notable pair, José!
Your vintage Catts sure have beautiful bone covers!
Splendid stag pair, Steve, with the groovy lambsfoot and the buttery Case jack!
Lot of texture in the shadows, JJ!
Thanks, Jack.I always admire your GS knife Gary![]()
Thanks, Steve.Way to get in the holiday spirit !
Jack, when I was a lad, we had a drill (it may have had screwdriver "bits" too) that operated just by pushing it down - some kind of auto-ratchet mechanism I think. We might have called it a "Yankee drill". Do you ever see those at the tool stall?Thank you very much my friendI have three, including one that is set up on a stand. I use them just as much as my electric drills, sometimes, for a small job, because it's just quicker, but also where I need to go slowly, with a lot of control. An example is when I want to add a compass or camera mount to the top of a wooden staff, where a hand drill would definitely be my first choice

It probably won't be my last.
I've never seen a stag Buck 303 - very cool!!This Buck Stag 303 has been hole up entirely too long in the knife roll. Today seemed like a good day to let it breath for a few days. This is a used knife that came to me in near-mint condition a few years back; I immediately put it to work on a daily basis for a spell. Although the date code shows 2006 as the year of manufacture, according to Joe H. at Buck Knives, this knife was not listed until the 2007 catalog. That was an interesting tidbit of information that took some investigation on my part to procure. He said that was common procedure, to use parts in stock to prepare for the upcoming catalog.
I love the hollow ground blades, and the palm swell on that Stag is second to none. It really is a beautiful knife. What looks like a crack in the scale is just natural coloration.

Thanks, Bob. My "catching up" was a pretty random selection of posts that caught my eye as I was scrolling through at warp speed.Very interesting Gary...I will try to live up to my end of our twin years.
You had a busy day of catching up.
Enjoy the rest of your day.
Bob
Thanks for the info, Paul. I'm guessing you're a Bison supporter.Gary, final totals were in excess of 24" and first was freezing rain and the snow had a very high moisture content...certainly tired of removing snowand a HUGE rivalry so it will be a very intense Championship game

Very cool old 47 stockman, Steve!
Thanks for some background on your superb SAK!5K Qs said "That SAK is intriguing! I'm guessing it's customized. What did it start life as??"
Thank you it's from Robert Lessard, it's a mostly stock Super Tinker with milled Ti scales, outer liner delete, and brass inner liners. I was impressed with the fact that it still has a tweezer slot and the tweezer head has been replaced with brass.
Congrats on your degree from Wayne State! I was worried you might open your new bottle of bourbon before you finished your paper you mentioned a while back, but you must have planned everything successfully. I saw a book you posted in the Books and Blades thread; are you a philosophy guy?
Celebrating my graduation today.![]()

Super pair Steve![]()
Congrastulations!
Many thanks my friend![]()
I hope you had a lovely day with those two vintage beauties JJ , superb jigging on both![]()
Yes, they're not good for everything, sometimes you need speed and power!I'm sure tradesmen were happy to get rid of their old drills, something that has happened entirely in our lifetimes. I remember my dad building something at home, (only happened once), and he had to get permission to borrow an electric drill from work!
My mate gets the old, heavier, 'brace and bit' type, (as they are known here), and they still sell, but not as well as the smaller style
Hope everyone has had a good weekend, and that your week gets off to a good startI'm carrying these two today, my Hartshead Barlow, and a small, slim Sheepsfoot by Thomas Turner

Thanks for the info about that fine H&R canoe! (The one I have is post-Bertram I think, although IIRC it was German-made.)H&R called it a Butterbean like Case's, but it's a little bigger than that, just the right size! The stag is outstanding on it, I have another that is nowhere near as nice.
These will follow my meanderings today.View attachment 2020890

Two fine knives and your team is on a roll. Be gentle with my Commanders ( the owner has to go before we can shine again).
Thanks so much Steve. I enjoy my whittler too. Alas I don't possess that talent.Great pair Bob !
