What "Traditional Knife" are ya totin' today?

5K Qs 5K Qs Thank you for the compliment on that Roberson. I make and repair/restore pipes and an older gentleman traded me that knife and a Russel Green River Works (Boker/Solingen) for some work. I've beaten the snot out of the Russel but I can't bring myself to hurt that Roberson. It's my "favorite" so it's still pretty.

Today I've got this Trapper in a pocket.

Carried the Barlow to church this morning and added the PJ when I got home.

Had to remind myself that I'm doing my weekly knife rotations on Sunday this year instead of Monday as in the past.
I mentioned last week that for most of the categories in my rotation, I carry "favorite" knives one week and "not as favorite" knives the following week. If I did that with every category starting with the favorites, I'd have a week where I'm overwhelmed by the impressive quality of my knives, followed by a week when none of my knives really excited me. So I used a "staggered start" last week, in which I carried a top ten knife in the categories of Stockman, Work Knife, Colonial/Imperial/Schrade, and International Knife while carrying "not top ten" in the categories SAK, Stag/Horn, Case, and Locking Knife. This week, each category alternates to whatever "quality" of knife was NOT featured last week. By doing this staggered start, half my knives each week are "super-stars" and half are "good but not great".
(For the Canoe category, I'm carrying one of each every week, and I didn't identify "top tens" for Miscellaneous and Lambsfoot categories.)

My Canoes this week are a Case CV in amber jigged bone (top ten) and a Colt stag canoe (not top ten, but a fine knife):

My SAK of the Week is a red Alox old cross Pioneer, a top ten SAK IMHO:

What do I know...really like the Colt.

Thinkin the 123OT isn't getting enough love lately

I've noticed some micro-pitting
So I am spending a little time every day with some 3-1 oil and 2000 grit sandpaper and sanding it down
When I am happy with it I'll re-patina

I may get some fine sanding blocks and apply more elbow grease here in the near future

She looking like this now

I'm some 30 pages behind and won't try to catch up. Had "things" going on the last week or so. Mostly demolition, lot clearing and routine medical
Today I detailed Candy ... as Bunny is my witness. Not bad for an 11yr old with 108K on the clock. Was one of the first 50 thousand off the VW Chattanooga TN line when new factory in 2012
2012 VW Passat (German for Trade Wind) 3.6 V6 SE. 280hp. 20 city 28 highway. The color is "Candy White" ... sounds like a porn name, Candy White
The combined age of my two vehicles (Jeep & VW) is 31yrs ... and I may never have to buy another vehicle
Candy may not be a porn star but she's a fast girl ...

Priorities....the Porch will always be here waiting.

I haven't carried my red 18 in a while, and I just about never carry a Barlow.

High quality quintet, Jer; I admire all the rounded bolsters!:thumbsup::cool:
If Jack's KOTY thread didn't require that I actually OWN the knives I nominate, I'd have been sorely tempted to nominate that GEC 88 clip/lamb sowbelly as Knife of the Year.🤓

Wonderful Rachel, I hope I can take more myself :)
Jack, does this mean that you prefer solitary walks over walking with companions?? ;)🤓

Congrats on your new rotation schedule, GT. 🤠
Thanks, John. :) I just checked back through this thread and my knife spreadsheet and discovered that my old schedule actually ran out almost exactly a year ago, and I started a temporary carry schedule that included only knives I had obtained in 2020 and 2021. Looks like I used that temp. schedule from last January 10 into last July, and then I started just making up "thematic" groups of knives to carry each week. That was kind of fun, but way too much creativity was required on my part! I'm sure I'll be much happier with 60 weeks of carries laid out for me in advance!😁:cool:

I really do not know the blade type on the Ibberson.

Edit: looks like it was filed on tip.
Pure gold knives, Bob! :cool::thumbsup::thumbsup:

How do you like that SAK Walker?

Carrying this one today.

Also, I thought I would show this new display case I put in my office in case anyone is looking for something similar. This came from Amazon and is surprisingly nice for the cost. I started looking at the Case branded displays and those are going for triple what I paid for this.

Goin back to bed.
Sorry to read that you were still struggling with your health, Paul. :( Reminds me of an old song (whose lyrics I modified to fit your situation):
Feeling sick, it's a bad one.
I fought a bug and the bug won.
I fought a bug and the bug won.

Hope you shake it off ASAP.:thumbsup::)

That EO Imperial utility knife is definitely a classic!:thumbsup::thumbsup:

Off to the market tomorrow, for the first time since before Christmas :)

Congrats on getting one of the exceedingly rare copper versions of the ebony WCLF, Jack!! 🤓:thumbsup:

That's just too regimented for me, but glad it works for you. I do get in a rut often and like having a familiar knife in my pocket, so very many of my hundreds of knives get neglected as far as attention and carry. I will give some thought as to setting some kind of rotation schedule, because I have so many knives that I want to carry but can't bring myself to change more than 1-2x a week.

So when I think about switching things up, the idea of change makes me anxious and I leave the same ones in my pocket. ...
Everyone has to handle their approach to knives in a way that works for their own personality and circumstances. I say my schedule "relieves anxiety of deciding what to carry and makes me feel in control" while you can legitimately say "too regimented for me.":cool::thumbsup:

GEC did some fancy burl handled #73s back in 2007. This one is box elder burl.

Todd and Jeff, your use of the word "fancy" for your wood covers is completely justified!! 😲:cool:

Another smiling Moby Dick on the pile side ! 😲😲😍
Sorry Jim ........ I retract what I said ................ GT has been threatening to call the authorities on me so I really don't see anything ! 🤣
Two fine lookin' knives with fine wood. I have to confess that the handsome Eye Witness is a bit creepy, those tang eyes looking at me and that really scary goblin that is looking out of the corners of his eyes and smiling, just south of the center pin. I reckon it is just my imagination. .................. please don't tell GT I said anything though.  ;)🤣

What kind of wood is on that Boker ? Fantastic color !
I wouldn't say that organizing an "intervention" for you involving a mental health care professional is "calling the authorities" on you, Rob! o_O
Just curious, would your health care plan cover mental health services, or should we start some kind of fund raiser for you? You seem to have a quite intense case of "imagination", so treatment may be prolonged, and I fear I might have to sell ALL my Rough Ryders to help you out.;)😁

This statement surprised me. I have never owned a canoe (knife or boat) but I was always under the impression that part of the point of this pattern was that it was on a single spring. But I hear rumors that there are stockmen with three springs  so I suppose all sorts of things are possible.
I think in the distant past, there may have been more single spring canoes. I kind of like the 3-spring, no krinking stockman patterns, too.
BTW, I should correct an earlier claim I made to pmek5 pmek5 : I noticed to day that I have a Schrade-Wostenholm I*XL canoe that also has a single spring, and asymmetric liners.

I like watching mathematical brains wrestle to accomodate non mathematical concepts like favorites and preference.
Well done.
Lately, I do not want to swap out what I’m using, so I don’t until I do🤪 Usually several days to a week. I’m coming around to appreciating the ones I have over aquiring more. If it’s worth owning, it should be worth carrying for a while without having to choose something else.
Jeff, you should see what mathematicians have to say about "voting theory" and options like ranked preference voting. 🤓 I don't pretend to think that everything can be quantified, but I think it's worth investigating any quantifiable aspects of a situation to see if that provides helpful insights.

And I agree with you that carrying a knife for only a day is often not very satisfying. That's why my rotation schedule is set up for me to carry the same batch of knives for a week at a time. I'll often only use 2 or 3 of the dozen or so I have assigned to me for the week, but the others are available if I feel an urge for more variety.

Fresh out of the box
S45vn blade steel and titanium hardware. What a solid knife and it looks cool lol and pretty light .
Very impressed with this one and fit and finish is spot on.

The Vet said he thought it could be repaired with surgery but that Coco was too old (13) for such surgery and all the post surgery care she would need/do. We agreed so, we'll just take it a day at a time and adjust to her needs. She's actually doing pretty good.

I hope Coco feels better and adjusts to a bum leg. Dogs are pretty hardy when it comes to injuries. My old Basset hound went blind for no reason even specialty vets could detrmine. He learned his way around the house and his fenced yard. Got around fine for many years. Vets told us we had the healthiest blind dog they had ever seen. Give Coco lots of love and treats.

...If I did that with every category starting with the favorites, I'd have a week where I'm overwhelmed by the impressive quality of my knives, followed by a week when none of my knives really excited me...
This may sound snarky, but I dont mean it to - this is an honest question: since you have a bunch of knives you love, why would you ever carry even one knife that doesn't really excite you? Your rotation schedule is always interesting, but I keep wondering why you don't just carry your favorites - it seems like you have a lot of variety even if you only pick ones you love, and skip the unexciting ones.
