What "Traditional Knife" are ya totin' today?

On a trip to Lee Valley yesterday to get another stone and some odds and ends I picked up an Opinel #6 carbon, so that's what I'm carrying today. Gave away my first Opy, a #8 to someone I thought might like it, and I've felt wierd not having an Opinel since then. I like the smaller size for a pocket EDC (although even as a small guy larger folders don't feel uncomfortable in the pocket to me, especially an Opinel). The edge felt really rough but a quick sharpening addressed that, and the blade rubs against the side of the handle when closed which I missed in the store, but this baby's gonna ride nice in the pocket today and get a good workout. Totin' it today and probably all week methinks.

I really need to get a camera and start contributing pics in these threads.

Nice score Ed

It has a lot of history here, this knife and I'm thrilled to have it. It's been used hard today having opened a package from Knifeswapper with two cocobolo boy's knives inside. Maybe one of them will show up here on Wooden Wednesday or you can find them in the "boy's knife" thread.

These two today, My Clip Barlow and a 1971 CASE #6383 slit spring Whittler :)

phacochère, I always enjoy looking at your photos. Even something with that simple of a background are interesting to look at.

avoidspam, I have been digging that jack. They need to use that micarta (in ivory of course) on the blade forum knife. I wouldn't mind seeing some of those cody jacks in other colors of micarta. Natural, Green, Brown, Ivory.... some of those earthy colors and maybe blaze orange. Heck maybe even some of the Farm and Field Tools in the same material.

Agreed, I'd have jumped on brown micarta. Despite the obvious reasons for picking micarta on a working knife I think it also adds strength to the frame. This is the most solid #72/3 I've handled. I do wonder if having a secondary blade helps too, having another spring pinched alongside the main blade tang can't do any harm:)

Case Texas Jack and Wenger Soldatenmesser 08 were with me today... :)

Glad to see you are using that Texas jack, Andi. It looks great. After I sent that one to you, I went to the local hardware store and bought a replacement. I haven't carried it yet; too many GECs that want some pocket time.

Paul that whittler is a real treasure.

Paul, I certainly agree with Steve on that Case whittler. It's a beautiful thing!

and my 2011 forum knife...still aint had time to send out my 2012 but will do that this monday cause i miss using it.

A quick cell pic after the first week at work. I don't know why I didn't use an opinel as a work knife sooner. The design is perfect for dirty jobs for so many reasons, but you all know this :)

It looks clean now, but that is because I clean and take care of my knives even if they are only ten bucks :)

Well I found my 2011 BF EO Jack today after a couple months of not being able to find it :o

so popped it in my pocket, but all I've been able to cut today is some aged, sharp cheddar... I think this knife deserves a better owner than me, though.

Kevin, great pic, did you soften the edges of the handles or is that just the focus?

Pretty much everyone I work with carries an Opi. They look at me funny sometimes when I pull out something exotic. But, if I know I've got a rough job coming up it's the Opi I take. The last job was building concrete abutments for a bridge, the knife sat open next to the cement mixer opening bags all day. By the end it was in a state, quick rinse in the river and back in my pocket:)
