Getting climbing gear ready for a couple days out, my climbing partner is driving over from Billings. He works a tough job at a palladium mine. Should be fun, anyway, I have these with me today.

Man that's beautiful! I have the same knife but I got mine in some rough shape...

Thanks! Yeah I guess I got pretty lucky with the state this one was in. Definitely a good user, I love the firm snaps and I still can't believe how sharp I could get this thing. Might even beat my Opinels on sharpness (blasphemy :D!).

Okay, guys, I know this is an ignorant question, but I gotta ask... Everyone and his brother seems to be toting a Tom's Choice knife. What are those? Some kind of forum knife? I mean, they look really nice and all, but they seem to be the most ubiquitous knife pictured on the forum! Thanks for any info you can share.

The Tom's Choice are actually the Tidioute Cutlery Barlow series, a SFO contracted by a forum member "Waynorth".

Call me fickle, but I'm likin' this one today:

I am going to play with swapping blades soon just so I can make an opi with a carbon blade and whatever handle.

notice the Opinel locking ring on this middle knife. Thats all thats left of the original Opi it seems, on the Gaillard pictured:

Yes, pretty exclusive, sell out quickly, and the best way to get one is to contact waynorth

google GEC Toms Choice Barlow. also google GEC Boys Knife

Barlow and Boys Knife are built on the same GEC #15 frame, have same blades, different bolsters

Thanks! I should get the real camera out instead of the crummy cell phone cam; that plate looks just like iridescent peacock feathers.

They are waynorth's (Charlie's) Barlows now also known as "Charlows". He is the guy that started the whole GEC Barlow thing.
"Tom's Choice" refers to "Tom Sawyer". Go take a look at the "What makes a good barlow?" thread. Then drop over to collectorknives.net or Charlie's own website for availability. Tom's choice is a clip point version. There are new ones coming through the line now in clip and spear, so they should be available now or at least very soon. They go fast and well they should as they are nigh unto perfect EDC size and just perfectly proportioned. It helps that they are some of the best production Barlows ever made.

The model 15s from GEC are the "boy's knife" (think Huck Finn) made on the same frame as the barlows and quite fine knives in their own right.

Back to the thread...

I will be carrying my avatar canoe by Jeff Mutz today. It has been a good while since I carried it because I have been buying too many knives this year.
