Added my Otter today.

Nice pair, Mr.P.
Just love that Catt bone, which led me to search for info on the net. Was it from Rogers?
I found this ~
Which is about Rogers, and worm groove is mentioned, so… maybe?
I also found this @waynorth thread from ‘08, which has some nice pics and info/discussion.

Thank you Jeff and I think it is in house genuine Cattaraugus bone. Most of the Carpenter's Whittlers didn't get the Indian Trail or worm groove treatment, as evidenced in the old Catalogs, as well as the three I have. Cattaraugus, New York Knife and as you know, Schrade were large cutlery operations. I believe they jigged and dyed most of their covers, but, that is just my belief, from my own observations. They may have used the Rogers bone from time to time, but, not much. The Carpenter's Whittler that I posted today and another greenish bone one I have both have the same jigging. I just got another one in that was hardly used at all and has a rich brownish red jigging very similar to Rogers jigging. It also differs from the other two, with the sheepsfoot secondary having a nail nick, as opposed to a long pull on the earlier models. I think the first two are from the 1930's or 40's and the one that I just acquired is possibly from the 1950's. I was wondering last night, while I was cleaning on it, if it may be Rogers bone. It still has the Carpenter's etch on the blade. I will be taking pictures of it and toting it before long. ;) 😊

I think the bone jigging and dye for most of the old companies were trade secrets. I found that out when I toured the much smaller GEC factory back in 2015.
Ask many questions about it, answer will be "trade secret". 🤣 I only wanted to know more to make a few of my knife covers richer in color. ;) Trade Secret. :(
Ask about how long they left it in the dye ? Trade secret
................ Ask what kind of dye ? Trade secret. 🤣
Maybe I need to make a trip to Kentucky to take lessons on cleaning up Old Knives ????? Just beautiful knives Mr. Primble !!!

Harry

I would be glad to show you Harry, but, then I'd have to kill you. 🤣

Joking, of course, and thank you for the compliment.😊

Stickin' with the small stuff today. A Coyote pup in "Sangria" jigged bone...

That’s fantastic Jim! I recently picked up a Tidioute Coyote in OD green Micarta, such cool little knives. 😎👍
This is still in my pocket.

I took the mirror polish off of the blade last night and ground down where the red line is pointing in order to lower the blade into the handle a bit more when closed. The tip was barely covered before, now it sits about a MM lower. Slippery slope though, because the lower the blade the less material to grab on the blade for opening! I'd like to sink it in there even more but that would require grinding some notches in the handle.

Wow, two great knives today Paul.

Took Coco out this morning and promptly took a fall. Some of you will recall that a couple years ago I had my jaw replaced with a piece of bone (fibula) out of my right leg - knee to ankle. Anyway, I think that God, as a reminder, knocks my leg out from under me sometimes just to get the point across that messing with his manufacturing process and OEM parts is nothing to be messed with. Well, this calls for a strong, supporting role, knife to carry today so I'm gonna carry this Scout Trapper - a gift from John JohnDF JohnDF . I don't know if John will see this as he doesn't come here much anymore but if you do see this John, - thanks. Oh, forgot to mention that while I was laying in the gravel, ole Coco stood by me and our doxie Utah came out through the doggie door and licked my face with gusto until Cindy could come out and help me up. Sausage, eggs-up, and raisin bread toasted soft for breakfast.

Hope no damage from the fall. I took a good one on the 29th last and stubbed my toe bad enough so that I just got shoes on again for the first time 4 days ago. Carry on!

Love the bits about John and Coco and Utah and Cindy and sausage and eggs and raisin bread, but not so keen on the fall. Hope you feel okay and the rest of your day is amazing.
