Happy Opening Day!
Candy bar trivia ~ Curtiss Candy reformulated a recipe and created a candy bar that they named Baby Ruth. It took off, and they became the largest candy factory in the world. One of their promotions was dropping thousands of Baby Ruths with little parachutes from an airplane across the country. They said it was named after Grover Cleveland’s daughter, nicknamed Baby Ruth, but the Clevelands kept her out of public limelight, so hardly anyone knew about her, and it was at the same time that Babe Ruth was swatting homers right and left. Everyone assumed the candy bar was named after him. It’s marked with Remington stamps. I believe it’s a model R1823 with the promotional shield. I’ll leave a photo with the tang stamps below.

So how did the test come out?
You are safe here, but be careful about saying you have too many around your wife!I'll admit it. I have too many knives. I decided to focus on some I rarely carry but should for awhile.

Dig the Schrade! The day started foggy but ended up being pretty nice. I carried my Schrade 893. I’m pretty excited for opening day, even though the Giants lost

Thanks, Gary! Yes, I really enjoyed my day with Porch buddies.I had to look up that word, Jack; thanks for increasing my word power!
Congrats on the vintage Wostenholm pruner, Bob; impressive restoration!
What sort of "cleaning compound" did you rub into the stag to rejuvenate it?
Great pic of your HHB "in the field", Jack!
Congrats on the rich green stockman, Jeff, and 3 cheers to Greg for his thoughtful generosity!
Glad all you Porchsters could meet up in Janesville; sounds like a great time!
Thanks for the interesting info about, and photos of, your new knife, Harry!
You got me interested in what a belt lacer does and how it works, so I used Google to try to find more info. For what it may be worth regarding "age range" of your knife, I found out that Mastabar applied for a US trademark for the name "Comet"(for belt lacing machines) in 1952.

Hard to believe that your month of March with this cool Case is down to the final day!
That's a praiseworthy pair!I like your Yello-Jaket much better than a Chinese Blac-Jaket version with AUS-8 blades I picked up at Menard's several years ago:

Dandy duo; I really like the looks of that Barlow with curved handle!I don't think I'm familiar with a bolster lock - how does that operate?
Congrats on the new amber bone trapper! Is that a full size trapper, or a 3.5" mini trapper? I'm trying, and failing, to figure that out by comparing to your fine stag HHB.
Bonny brace of knives!
Congrats on the new "high-tech" stockman!
Immaculate Imperial scouts, JJ!
Very nice, Todd!
Looks like you took home plenty of plunder when you invaded Wisconsin!
Thanks for the info, Rob, and for the comment on my HHB/windchime pics.
Sounds like quite a unique and interesting knife!
Propitious pair of knives, Jack, and the backgrounds have interesting reading material!
I never really thought about the I*XL mark being so old; it looks like the sort of thing someone would invent for text messages, but was granted before 1700!

Great pair, Kentucky Man.Landers, Frary, & Clark Pruner and a North River Custom Frontier FB for another wet and windy Friday.![]()

That is so cool. I should find one of those hand mills for when the power is out.I like the size of it too Mr. R. ...... measures just over 3 & 7/8" closed ...... and a rich history, from a company that Americans kept house with, in the late 1800's.

My old L.F. & C. coffee mill, which will still grind up coffee beans with no problems.

Add another belated Birthday wish!(Odd, the system didn't give me a notice of your post)
Thanks for the birthday wishes. It is very much appreciated.
...that is a masterful pic...
Thank you, and happy birthday to you, sir. Hoping you had a good one as well.
Speaking of mustaches, this guy loved his so much, he kept two spares on his face.As someone with a mustache, I love the background sign. If I don’t wax mine it’s like the Mark Twain, if I do wax it, it’s like the Arthur Conan Doyle but a lot more grey![]()
Easily one of the nicest gunstocks.I’ll go along with Ed today and carry the 55. Along with it is the oh-so-nice Gunstock gifted and pen slip gifted by Jeremy.
Have a great one!

Thanks! It's a full-size trapper. I'm becoming a big fan of Case's amber jigged bone.Congrats on the new amber bone trapper! Is that a full size trapper, or a 3.5" mini trapper? I'm trying, and failing, to figure that out by comparing to your fine stag HHB.
Agreed. The proportions are spot on. I love the full clip blade and it has a really nice swedge. When I get a chance, I’m going to take the Micarta scales off and bring them up to a polish so I can see the depth of the burlap. I did this on my burlap 47 and it made all the difference in the world.Easily one of the nicest gunstocks.
I can think of many times I’ve used almost any excuse to use a knife, but eggs are not one of them. And how in the world are you going to cut your eggs if you don’t have that beautiful knife at your side? We can’t be overworking our forks in this life!
WWII Navy Rope Knife. Only sharpened once.
I’ve seen the lifeboat version which included a can opener for opening tins of drinking water and food in an inflatable raft…probably a good idea to not provide a pointy knife in inflatable life raft survival gear.
Totin the Schrade made Craftsman Whittler because Bob’s from yesterday reminded me that I should.View attachment 2136464

Ooo. Clam chowder sounds good!Yahooooo !!!! Clam Chowder day at the Wagon Wheel Cafe. No breakfast - gotta save room for the Clam Chowder. As it has been since I got it, the Bunny #525 will accompany me in my keys pocket and this Buck 055 will ride along in my other front pocket. Kinda liking these smaller knives lately - the 055 at 3 3/8", the Bunny at 3 1/2' and the Lambfoot at 3 1/2". This particular 055 I'm carrying today has the Crelicam Ebony that Buck is using of late.
