A pairing made for a day afoot in the outdoors, both super cool slicers; looks like a bit of the old plinking is in order, as well!;):thumbsup:

Spent the day roaming around the Ft Peck area where Grandad used to liveView attachment 2200123View attachment 2200124View attachment 2200126View attachment 2200129

Then went up to visit his grave. The cemetery sits on a hill so everyone there gets a good view

Looks like a nice trip - how was the dino exhibit?

edit - that came across badly. Didn't mean it to sound/ read callous.

Thanks - first fall I've had that wasn't a younger days outdoors activity/ work/ stupid human trick, so a new experience for me. I'll be very happy to not have it happen again. Went down hard on gravel, was able to twist enough to do a sloppy PLF. Lower left leg took the brunt of the impact, some bruising on the left hip and back near the left shoulder. Have an appointment with my Doc Wednesday to check all the gravel rash and where the tendon bruised (I hope it's just bruising). Definitely could have been worse. Wee... That was fun... Have a nice trip, see ya next fall... yada yada yada. 🤪 Also need to look into insurance for camera gear.
Glad that you are okay Gordon . Growing old is not for the faint of heart . I do not know your age , but when we turned 80 we started to realize that it was time to stop doing some activities that we had always done and get our house ready for our ages . Have not regretted it .

Harry

You guys are on to something. I've noticed lately that I can hardly walk in our lower field because of the uneven ground and working on things such as the tractor and other things is more tiring etc.. I'll be eighty in August. Strength is another factor. Moved a grader blade and a three-point hitch the other day and it took the rest of the day to recover. It took me about an hour to do it when a couple years ago it would have been a fifteen minute affair.

Thanks everyone! For the master showmanship she has to show several animals that she doesn’t normally show, so she’s been practicing yesterday and all morning. I’m carrying the bunny knife again today.

I must have scrolled right past your post about your daughter. It's always good to see the youngsters involved in 4-H and other livestock events.

Nope, you’re good! It’s an interpretive center and has the casting of a T Rex skeleton they found just south of Ft Peck 20 some years ago. Funny story. My buddy and I were out hunting one fall after they made the discovery. There was controversy about the find based on the property and they had some feds guarding the site. We were out to dinner nearby and a young reporter gal tried to interview my Grandad on camera about it. Big mistake!!!! I actually felt sorry for her but I think she learned her lesson about grumpy old men:))))

Thanks. My family is spread out all over the country, so I don't get as many chances to visit and pay respects as I used to, and I look forward to it when I get the chance. I sometimes forget others might feel the opposite about visits.

Cranky? Harrumph. LOL yeah some reporters don't think about some people not wanting cameras and mics shoved in their faces.

Staying active is good, but knowing our limitations and dialing it back before we hurt ourselves is a good thing. (Not an easy thing for me to say or do.)

Stay safe, Ed. :)

I sorta think about what Grandad would want. When he passed away he was 102. For 25 years I spoke to him weekly if not more often. He adored my daughters, as they were the only great grand children that would ever visit him, or even met him. He was gruff but said things that needed saying, but he also had a heart of gold and would give a fiend the shirt off his back if they needed it. He died 2 days before my daughter and I were leaving on a hunt in Idaho. We talked about it and I skipped the burial because he would rather be hunting versus attending his own funeral. My daughter filled her tag opening morning and said “Grandpa was giving her this one”. He and I saw Eye to eye on stuff like that. Ironically, since the day he’s been in the ground I am the only family member to have ever visited his grave. Life is good and he lived a good one.

knife content is the 34 OT in the photo is one he gave me a long time ago

Good memories for you and your daughters. Good on you for taking the time to visit with him.

Was messing with our Garden Tractor yesterday, in the tractor shed, tripped over a trailer dolly and fell out the tractor shed door. Landed flat on the small of my back and shoulders. Sore and stiff as all get out today. Dang lucky I didn't break my tail bone. I've got this Crelicam Ebony Buck 055 on my belt in it's sheath but haven't got my pants on yet so technically, I not totin anything today - so far. Hash and eggs up for breakfast.

Be careful out there, Ed. Glad you didn’t break anything.
Must have been in the stars Ed. Glad you were not seriously hurt. I went backwards down the attic stairs yesterday.🤕

You two as well. It’s contagious around here. Glad you’re all okay.
Spent most of the day using a Tree Root Exposer (they call it a "Rototiller", but don't be fooled). We planned on three passes over the yard, with raking up tree roots (and cutting them when the other end is still buried) between passes. The rental tool broke down about halfway through the second pass, and there were no more of them available, so we'll have to do the second half of this project later this week.

This pic shows: (top right) dirt before the Tree Root Exposer has been applied; (bottom right) first pass of the machine; (left) after first pass and my wife has cleared out most of the roots.

Had the Proper in my pocket and the 110 on my belt.

Looks like you have your next several weekends or months planned out, Tyson.

Last fair update, I promise. My daughter did great today. She worked hard and learned a lot. We’re very proud of what she accomplished. I’m sure the bunny knife helped.😁

Congrats to your daughter (and parents), raising critters for show can be a good amount of work. 👍

Thanks Ed! I’m glad I took the pic before the crow’s got into my neighbors overflowing trash can! What a mess! 😡

I was taking the trash out at night earlier this week, I opened the lid, tossed a trash bag in, and as I did, out scrambled one of the fattest raccoons I’ve ever seen. It startled me, of course, so I dropped the lid back down right on top of him, but he was already halfway out of the trash can and he just kept going. He climbed out onto the recycling can right next the trash can, did a clumsy belly flop into the yard, took a few steps, then turned and looked back at me like, “Do you mind?”

The lid had been completely closed, and the trash can wasn’t very full, so I guess he’d climbed up there and let himself in. Don’t know if he could’ve gotten out himself had I not come out and opened the lid, but after he skulked off into the trees, I noticed a second set of eyes, so he had an accomplice. Maybe that one was going to come let him out. 🤣

Nifebrite and Orange Scramble today :)

Paul, that single clip Nifebrite! 😍 Just, um, let me know if you ever get tired of that one, ok? 😉

Sorry haven't posted in a few days. Way too far behind in this thread.

Love the Farm Boy, one of my favorite #15 variants.

Nice pic of your Albers, Jack! I wonder if “Captain” was a title or a name?

Beautiful #74. That one was an SFO, right?

Is it the weekend yet?

Great pic!

Mike makes a great looking knife. I especially like his sheepsfoot. Very nice.

I’ve been carrying this #93 Ram Foot for a couple days (although this is an old pic from when I first got it, because I haven’t taken any recently).

Now it's the weekend!
I'm planning to do some gardening and some relaxing. Carrying these two:

I was glad I had my hiking staff with me yesterday, as 500 yards from home, my left knee buckled. Not sure what the issue is, but I'm not sure I could have got back home without the stick!

I grabbed these two yellow fellas today. :)
A classic pairing my friend, the cream of the crop :)
Nice pic of your Albers, Jack! I wonder if “Captain” was a title or a name?
Thanks buddy, interesting question. The book, published in 1955, doesn't give any indication, but my guess would be a title

Hoping to get some gardening done today, so adding a my Carl Kammerling Pruner to my Albers Jack, and I'll be using the Skrama to help me clear some bindweed

Should be fun.
I was going to get something of theirs with that handle, but the sheathes are a lot extra, so I was going to get their puukko with the wooden handle and the sheath included, but that would have been a lot like the carbon Marttiini Lynx Lumberjack I just bought.
