Good grief, you have been in the wars recently buddy!I'm glad everyone survived their mishaps without substantial damage!
Gravity must have been especially strong last Friday! I took our little dog for a walk in the afternoon and decided to check the schedule on the front door of the local library branch to see what their holiday hours were. Somehow I tripped going up the stairs and pitched forward. I managed to get my hands down in front of me, but one of them was holding the dog's leash and I twisted awkwardly on the way down to avoid landing on the dog, so most of my weight ended up on my right arm. Scuffed up the leash hand a little on the cement, and worried that I had jammed my right shoulder, but the shoulder was OK after a few blocks.
That morning, I tried to entertain the dog by stepping up about 30" onto the top of the front wall (made of treated 4x4s) of one of our raised garden beds in the back yard. I got up OK, but found out that a 4" space at the top isn't enough for me to balance on anymore and I tipped off backwards toward the ground. Turned myself in the air so I could land forward but then pitched forward over the front of the second raised bed about 5 feet away and crashed into the chain link fence on the other side of that second bed. Really nothing hurt except my pride, and the dog was not even entertained by all my unplanned activity!
Yeah, balance and strength are 2 things I'm working on. I try to do a variety of stretching and range-of-motion exercises when I get up each morning, but the older I get, the longer that morning routine takes me because I have to keep adding things to my routine as I discover new stiffness or aches or whatever. I also do a bunch of weight-lifting exercises at least 3 times a week; it's not to build muscle, I just want to slow down the rate of muscle atrophy.
Not easy for me either. I still play basketball twice a week with guys who are all younger than me (some by at least 40 years). I can't jump much anymore, so I don't try that very often, but I can still pass and shoot and defend reasonably well (especially since I know almost everyone's moves). But last Tuesday I didn't react fast enough to a guy changing direction unexpectedly on offense and the top of his head smashed into my right eye socket. We both sat out of the game for a few minutes trying to decide if we were conscious, then got back to playing. He ended up getting a couple of staples in his scalp afterwards where it had split open from the impact; I had a tiny cut on my eyelid, and the skin around my upper eyelid turned red and swelled slightly for a couple of days. All's well that ends well, but I don't think the collision would have even happened 20, or even 10, years ago.
Sounds like you had a good run Gary!I used to eat whatever I wanted and as much as I wanted up without gaining weight until 9 years ago. Then I suddenly started putting on pounds at what I considered an alarming rate. I eventually found out I can still eat whatever I want, but I have to cut way back on "portion sizes". But I also realized, for me, the first 2 or 3 bites of almost any food are the best, so it wasn't a huge hardship to cut back on how much I ate.
I much prefer those older CS pouches to the newer plastic ones (though I recently managed to find a leather sheath which accomodates both my Finn Bear and Roach Belly)
Seems like you had a great time and you always had very cool cutlery choices!![]()
Your Big Rose and a mug of a strong caffeine beverage is a great way to start the week!![]()
Thank you very much my friend, it's great to see those immaculate vintage Scouts together again
Thanks, Jack. I found from another source that the J. stood for “James,” certainly the least interesting of his names.![]()
Great pic buddyEleanor had school off today for Memorial Day (she only has four more days to go until summer break), so I took the girls to a movie. I had my stag HHB and an Opinel No. 7 with me.

It’s probably covid. Exactly the same feeling/symptoms as when I had it a year and a half ago. Not bothering with testng for it, I’ll fight it off.Hope you get better soon. Corn looks great
Not a whole lot you cannot do with those practical knives.
This was very kind of you to say, Dwight. I really appreciate it.Amir Fleschwund

Very perceptive way of saying it, Jon.Stopping again to reflect on the meaning of the day and praying for the families cycling through grief, memories, and dealing with this day of honor in their own way.

That is what is going around here and at the plant I work for in Minnesota. Acts like covid, looks like covid, but tests negative with covid test. It’s probably covid. Exactly the same feeling/symptoms as when I had it a year and a half ago. Not bothering with testng for it, I’ll fight it off.
To be honest, the corn was not as good as it looked.Tough and chewy
Another gray start to the day in the City by the Bay! Keeping me company today is the usual lamb and a HJ. Plus it’s Ed’s favorite day!

What a perfect coat...coloring and added grip.
Carried this combo yesterday and today, hard to beat these tools. I could probably take over the world with this carry, but I don't want the responsibilityHaven't been posting much lately due to lack of time, but I do pop in.
Modoc ED I was saddened to hear about Coco, but we *all* know she had 100% the best life she could have with you! I hope the good memories are a comfort.
I often lament not having enough time to keep up with this thread, and look forward to perhaps being retired someday. Then I heard that last Friday was "gravity day", so I have decided to put off my plans to age. I'd like to thank ya'll for talking me out of it!
