What "Traditional Knife" are ya totin' today?

3 more knives in the "embarrassment of riches" package that Modoc ED Modoc ED sent me recently. They're all Rough Riders, they're all stainless steel, they all have smooth tobacco bone covers, and I posted them all last Saturday IIRC.

So this arrived today:

I'm a big fan of Case's Amber Jigged Bone (this is the fourth knife I have in that, which is as close as I've ever gotten to some kind of structured collection). I think the handles on this one are excellent examples of what I love about it.

Unfortunately, the centering is off enough that there's a tiny bit of blade rub, the tip doesn't quite close into the blade well, and the backspring has some gaps.

It seems to be pretty filthy around the pivot. There are large chunks of black gunk in there - it looks almost as bad as my GEC 97 did when it arrived, but this Sodbuster Jr. has really good snap, so it can't be as bad as the 97 was. That GEC felt like a friction folder until I thoroughly cleaned it; now it has a fine action. I'm hoping that a good cleaning of this Case will correct at least the gaps in the backspring (I can see some gunk piled up in there) and maybe the tip being proud.

Finally, the blade has a little corrosion on it already - and the box has a sticker that proudly proclaims "DISPLAY". I will chop up a bunch of meat and veggies and fruit with this over the next few days, so I don't mind the spotting - it will be buried under an avalanche of patina. But it really irritates me to pay full price on something and have the retailer send me a display model. Bad form.

Nice Amber Bone collection. I have a few of them and one of my favorites is the large stockman. I don’t have any of the patterns you have though.

2 questions:
1) Is that payphone operational? Also  where?!? I have not seen a payphone in the wild since cellphones became popular.
(I have 40 brand new never used 🤬🤬🤬🤬🤬🤬 payphones in the boxes in storage. Cellphones (the pre-"smartphone" things that could only make and receive calls, you may be too young to remember them. 😀 come to think of it, they put an end to "pagers", too.) murdered the company's plans of setting payphones around the towns we were in. 🤬😡)
2) Is your Canondale as speedy as it looks?

It was a good one thanks JJ, a little sunshine makes a lot of difference :) Those two old warhorses make for a great pairing my friend
Thant's excellent, Jack! Thank you for your kind words!!! :)
Like a lot of my fellow Guardians, my choice of knives this week has been influenced by the sad news about about our brother cigarrodog , and today I'm carrying an old Alfred Blackwell that was gifted me a few years back by rockman0

Thanks, Gary. Good to be back.
That was a great idea, it looks great! Stay cool! 😎👍
Thanks, Todd. I need to make some more. Maybe this weekend.
Great black barlow, Todd👍
Coyotes are devious. They lure dogs away to where the rest of the pack is waiting.
We live near a long north-south glacial ridge that runs 20 or 30 miles (2nd highest point in Illinois, I think, and the .gov installed a super secret radar installation there right after 9/11). Large packs of ‘yotes travel up and down the woods and fields of the ridge, seems like they follow the rabbit populations. And we have a ton of rabbits right now, so I expect the howling and yipping soon. Sometimes, they’re going up the creek 30 feet from our bedroom window.
I’ve heard that coyotes will lure dogs in which is why I generally try to keep my dogs away from them. Those pups seemed innocent but maybe that’s what they want me to think. Luckily my dogs are obedient when they want to be. 😁

George Wostenholm Lambsfoot and GEC 86 Forum Knife today.

Fantastic pair :)
You never know what you'll find at the antique mall. The tang stamp says "Howard", that's it, but the walk and talk is on par with a vintage case knife. The white bone covers are absolutely beautiful! Clean it up and into the pocket it goes. Have a great weekend!!

The picture didn’t quite turn out how I hoped so here’s a less-blurry one.
