What "Traditional Knife" are ya totin' today?

2 questions:
1) Is that payphone operational? Also  where?!? I have not seen a payphone in the wild since cellphones became popular.
(I have 40 brand new never used 🤬🤬🤬🤬🤬🤬 payphones in the boxes in storage. Cellphones (the pre-"smartphone" things that could only make and receive calls, you may be too young to remember them. 😀 come to think of it, they put an end to "pagers", too.) murdered the company's plans of setting payphones around the towns we were in. 🤬😡)
2) Is your Canondale as speedy as it looks?
No, it's just a prop/public art, an old English phone booth in downtown Bentonville, AR. The bike is much speedier than I am. I'm built for comfort, not speed.

Well, none of the nieces have called inviting us over for a BBQ over this 4th of July weekend so, I've put an "X" by all their names on my X-Mas present list. Not much going on but we may venture over to the Oney Frosty (an old, extinct, Frosty Freeze) in Adin, California for their BBQ today - chicken, pork ribs, brisket. I'm gonna tote "Patch" my slammed in a truck door, cover chipped and repaired with J-B Weld, shield fell out of, CV Chestnut Sod Buster Jr. during our travels today.

Sweet red smooth bone

You never know what you'll find at the antique mall. The tang stamp says "Howard", that's it, but the walk and talk is on par with a vintage case knife. The white bone covers are absolutely beautiful! Clean it up and into the pocket it goes. Have a great weekend!!

Wow ~ Score!
Sweet old Craftsman !
Thanks, Steve! Like they say

EDIT ~ I meant to type “ Like they say, better than I deserve.” 🥴

So this arrived today:

I'm a big fan of Case's Amber Jigged Bone (this is the fourth knife I have in that, which is as close as I've ever gotten to some kind of structured collection). I think the handles on this one are excellent examples of what I love about it.

Unfortunately, the centering is off enough that there's a tiny bit of blade rub, the tip doesn't quite close into the blade well, and the backspring has some gaps.

It seems to be pretty filthy around the pivot. There are large chunks of black gunk in there - it looks almost as bad as my GEC 97 did when it arrived, but this Sodbuster Jr. has really good snap, so it can't be as bad as the 97 was. That GEC felt like a friction folder until I thoroughly cleaned it; now it has a fine action. I'm hoping that a good cleaning of this Case will correct at least the gaps in the backspring (I can see some gunk piled up in there) and maybe the tip being proud.

Finally, the blade has a little corrosion on it already - and the box has a sticker that proudly proclaims "DISPLAY". I will chop up a bunch of meat and veggies and fruit with this over the next few days, so I don't mind the spotting - it will be buried under an avalanche of patina. But it really irritates me to pay full price on something and have the retailer send me a display model. Bad form.

To make up for the preceding wall of text, here's a picture of my tiny Case Amber Jigged Bone collection.

Sorry that you got a grungy display model! Maybe a deep cleaning will help. If not, send it back.

Nice group there!
There’s something straightforward about just totin a SAK!
Very pics!
I appreciate our interactions, Jack. :thumbsup::thumbsup: 🤓

🤓 Not planning a test, Bob, but if I get a sudden urge, are you OK with true-false in an always-sometimes-never true format?

Sowperb sowbelly! :thumbsup::thumbsup::cool:

Thanks, JJ; I'm quite pleased with my new French knives! :cool::thumbsup::thumbsup:

Looks like a great spot to relax, Bart! :thumbsup::cool::thumbsup:

High-quality knives, Jack, and interesting backgrounds in your pics! :cool::cool::thumbsup:

Congrats on the grand gift knives, Bob, and accolades to Dwight and Paul for their thoughtful generosity! :thumbsup::cool::cool:
That Winchester looks somewhat similar to the 2023 Blade Forums knife.

I like that fetching "Memphis Belle" SAK! :cool::thumbsup::cool:
I want to get one of those "airplane" SAKs, but I can never make up my mind among the Warthog, Warhawk, and Memphis Belle.

That's a stag stunner, Jeff! :thumbsup::thumbsup:😲

Your Carhartt mini trapper is a classy knife, Vince, and John's a classy guy! He sent me one very similar to that; much appreciated. :thumbsup::thumbsup::cool:

The jigged bone WCLF is sublime! :cool::thumbsup::thumbsup:

That "tiger canoe" is a real attention-grabber! :thumbsup::cool::thumbsup:

Striking whittler! :cool::cool::thumbsup:

Bob, Todd, Vince, and Jack, I appreciate your compliments. :)

You're welcome, Steve; I always look forward to seeing what you'll post! :thumbsup::cool::cool:

That splendid pair is an effective wake-up call in the morning, Bob! :cool::thumbsup::cool:
Congrats on the heavenly Hibbard; must be close to Your Very Best! ;)

I restrained myself from commenting the first day you carried them, but I can't ignore them 2 days in a row: wonderful pair of wood Case knives! :thumbsup::thumbsup::cool:

Thanks, Barrett. :) I'm very happy with the laminated birch I received, but I'd have preferred "carbone", too. But my Opignel is Inox, and I haven't noticed much difference between the performance of Opinel carbon and stainless, although I haven't really used the Inox Opignel very much.

That's a vibrant vintage pair! :cool::thumbsup::thumbsup:

I don't know much about Moki knives, but they sure make some great-looking models! :thumbsup::cool::thumbsup:

I can see why, Todd; worthy wood! :cool::cool::thumbsup:

:thumbsup::cool::cool:

Thanks for your kind comments, Gary.

With all that SAK on my belt, I could go smaller in the pocket. (Colonial in an arc.)
"But why?", as Shatner said about the feasibility of watching tv shows without Shatner prominent in the credits.

The budget channels we watch rotate through re-runs of the old shows.
I thoroughly enjoyed the TJ Hooker reruns.
Old and new jigged bone this morning. I’m sure some other more rough and tumble members of the clan will fill the pockets later today as I get some chores done, but for now, I’ll enjoy these.

A new Hibbard discovery.
Love the jigging on this one Bob! Hope your holiday weekend is as fine as your carries. :)

I'm with Jeff, major score! To me, aged smooth bone is the classiest look there is on a Jack. Also I'm a spearhead so this really rings my bell 🛎️
I do have a weakness for red jigged bone. Managed to get out for another bike ride in the evening heat.
That Robeson bone is suh-weet, yesiree! Dig your Cannondale too, looks like a nice place to ride?

I slipped this one in my pocket slip last night, the 59 is my favorite little multi-blade folder by miles, cannot get over this one - don't want to.
Happy Holiday weekend to stateside porchers!
