What "Traditional Knife" are ya totin' today?

On the fourth day the fog returns. In the forty years we’ve lived here theres never been more than three consecutive days without some marine layer. Doing laundry and watching a some football and baseball. Keeping me company the usual lamb and Modoc Special. Have a great Sunday folks! Go 9ers!

That is one special barlow Dan. I know pics do not do that burl justice.👌

Very nice early fall day so doing a bit of Traditional bow shooting today.

Wonderful knife, José! Artistic blade etch and attractive handle!:thumbsup::cool:

I see what you mean Gary. They both look like good-looking knives though 👍

Need more coffee…
Why are Rem and Win misleading?
Jack, the Remington is an excellent knife, but the Winchester definitely is lacking in "build quality."
Jeff, I meant that those two canoes are "good old American brands", but like Schrade, the names now belong to companies that have the knives made off-shore. I think the Winchester is especially misleading, since one tang stamp seems to indicate US manufacture with "Winchester Trademark USA"

but on the other side of the tang we have a model number and true country of origin:

5K Qs 5K Qs Yes I think that's true Gary, it's of the Slimline Trapper ilk, similar to Queen's Utilty Knife or GEC's 48 pattern but with perhaps a broader handle? I think its name is Moon Pie Trapper- kind of surreal.... You get a long blade in the frame!

Thanks for the feedback, Will.:thumbsup::thumbsup:

Thanks, Gary. I'm always looking for new knives and this was one of my recent finds.👍
I think the searching you did was time well-spent, José; it's a winner!:cool::thumbsup:

Might be a while before I'm back on my bike but I get this darn catheter out today and plan to start walking again immediately. Thanks for the well wishes.
You're welcome, and I hope you get back on 2 wheels ASAP!:cool::thumbsup:

LOL! :D Thanks Gary, that's great news about your wife buddy :)
...
Thanks, Jack.:thumbsup::cool: She's getting around fairly well on foot in the house now, but I think I'll be her chauffeur for at least a couple more weeks when she must go anywhere by car (doctor, physical therapy, vet appointments for dog, Covid and flu and shingles vaccines).
Jeff, I think Randy bought himself some equipment for recording music and would do all the instruments himself and mix the tracks. Toward the end of his time here, during COVID, he had a lot of health problems that kept him home-bound. Here's one of his posts after he came back to BF briefly after a lengthy absence that describes some of his guitar purchases:

Thanks for the link, Gary! Never saw that. In fact, I don’t think I’ve ever ventured into that Lounge forum.🥺
I have a hard time keeping up in this thread.
...
Glad you found the info about Randy of interest, Jeff.:thumbsup::cool:
I know what you mean about the challenges of keeping up! I spent quite a while as a new BF member without ever posting or even regularly scrolling through the Totin Today thread. But I was probably a participant in many more "short-lived" threads in those days. Once I tried participating daily in the Totin Today thread and the Guardians of the Lambsfoot thread, my BF "obligations" became much tougher to keep on top of. (In fact, I finally gave up being active in the Guardians thread for quite some time now, much to my dismay. :()

Once again, I saw no need to swap knives.😗

Terrific trio, Jeff!:thumbsup::thumbsup: The spey blade on the Case trapper reminds me that I find many situations in which I'd like to use a serrated blade, so I'd like to put a "category" into my rotation for Serrated Knife of the Week. But I have only one folder with a serrated blade that I can think of.

That's a Half Moon Trapper. The Moon Pie is the two blade.
Really nice knife :thumbsup::thumbsup::thumbsup:

CSC's trapper is a little smaller framed than Case's. Size wise, these are pretty close to the Case Copperhead or CSC's own Pinch lockback.
Love the bone on yours 😍
Canal Street did some nice jigging. The blue rope bone came out of the Schrade factory.
Handsome trio of Half Moons, Mike (or handsome 1.5 Moons)!:cool::thumbsup:
Is the bottom one horn or some kind of acrylic?

They are metric spanner’s so 12mm opening on the 12 and so on.
Thanks for teaching me something, John!:cool::thumbsup:
You have some very small spanners there; 12 mm isn't much wider than the width of the end of my little finger, I think.

Playing poker this afternoon as one of the guys couldn't play tomorrow. I love 😍 the flexibility allowed by retirement. I did a Walmart run while I was in town getting the inspection. Cancer screenings, car inspections, Walmart, poker, pool tomorrow...my social calendar runneth over 😂

I'm pretty much worn out just reading about it, Mike!😲

Your Winchester stag whittler is wondrous, Jim!:cool::cool:

Thanks kindly Gary...I was pleasantly surprised with the outcome of the design.

I continue to be fascinated by your rotation.👌
I don't know about the taste from synthetic "erl".
Thanks, Bob; I'm quite fascinated with my rotation myself, and welcome your fascination, but we may be an "odd couple" here at BF in that regard!:thumbsup:🤓

Hey, Gary! Thank you, sir -- the chestnuts are coming along quite nicely, and much faster than I expected. 😁 I'm super happy I settled on these after limiting myself to one "set" of Case knives.

I've exclusively carried single blade knives up to this point, but that medium stockman may very well be the closest thing to perfect I've ever had in my pocket! 👍🏻
Glad you like the medium stockman, Chris!:thumbsup::cool: I came to BF as a multiblade pocketknife guy with little use for (or experience with) single-blade knives, but I've come to appreciate the charm of a single blade (starting with a Sodbuster Jr). My chestnut medium stockman, with square bolsters, is a pattern I'd probably not have purchased if not for its chestnut jigged bone covers. (Mine also arrived with substantial blade rub, which is apparently common for Case stockman patterns, but it irks me.)

Ol' Humpy on old Stumpy. Had to do it.

Ready for fall now. The bone and jigging on this thing... wow! I can only describe it as "showing off". I say if ya' got it, flaunt it. Easily the best jigged bone I've gotten to handle yet, I am smitten.
Congrats to you and all the other members taking delivery on their new 2023 Forum knives!:thumbsup::thumbsup:

Very cool canoe pairing, Gary!  :thumbsup:

Thanks, JJ. :)

I wish I had the skills to reprogram it Gary! :D :)

Carrying my Hartshead Barlow again, along with an Old Friend gifted to me by Duncan @Campbellclanman :) Have a great day everyone

Outstanding pair of knives, Jack!:cool::thumbsup:

Cherish the Churchill (even in nonstandard colors)!:cool::thumbsup:

Nice leg Gary! 🤣
Seriously though, didn’t Marbles have a whole series of those bone/stag scrimshaw knives?
Thanks, Todd. :) They certainly did have a series like that, although I don't remember what patterns were included. Here's a photo of the box in which my lady leg knife arrived:

And speaking of "lady leg", here's what my wife's right knee has looked like for the past 2 weeks. We're hoping the staples get removed Tuesday.
I asked if she'd like to keep the staples until after Halloween, but her reply is inappropriate here.

So glad your wife is on the mend Gary.
They are telling me they make a 4 inch incision plus a 1/4 incision for my new hip.

Great minds have always been misunderstood.😁
