Forgive my meddling, but something was bugging me aesthetically. D11DB829-BE47-4A90-9584-7250B7DE0791.jpeg😎

Recently bought this beat up Chicago Cutlery off eBay ($10~) with intentions to take time cleaning up the handle (sandpaper & wax) then use the blade to practice sharpening. Mostly because it needed a lot of clean up to remove the abuse, and to hold an edge. Pretty fun project and highly recommend to anyone looking for a fun small project. Featuring final garden carrots of the season.
Still using the complete set of Chicago Cutlery that we got as a wedding present 42 years ago🫢 I’ve added a few others to my cooking arsenal ~ Old Hickory, home made, etc, but Chicago Cutlery has always made great knives.
You remind me that I should go pull my carrots…but even though we had our first light frost this morning, that shouldn’t have hurt them.
Today I drove my daughter across the border to Syracuse, NY where she had a follow up assessment by the surgeon that operated on her injured knee.

She had an unfortunate knee ligament injury while working at camp in Saranac Lake NY.

Good news is that she will make a full recovery with physiotherapy in about 9 months

I was very impressed by the medical facility and by the orthopaedic surgeon. He is one of the best in North America.

On our way back home we stopped at Burger King and I put my BF knife to work on a double whopper NO BUN keto burger 😊

Best wishes for that knee!
In light of @afishhunter’s post below, and the condition of my knees, I wish I’d never played high school football.
My cutlery for today. I hope Fall / Spring is treating everyone well.View attachment 2351704
Love the 293! Great knife, my friend.
Really nice pair, Trav.
Nice knife, and welcome to The Porch! Stick around.

Dont let people borrow your knife.

Water meter guy hit the heat trace after being warned 10 times it was under the insulation. I suppose the knife now has a built in wire stripper.

It's my fault .. I know better than to hand someone my knife. Especially at work.

Same as yesterday, minus a little steel.

That’s a real shame.
Here’s what I would do ~ buy another Klein like that for work ( luckily Kleins are easy to find on ebay).
Take your damaged one to your bench grinder and belt sander, with a coffee can of water to keep the steel cool, and turn it into a hawkbill. Draw it out in the blade with a Sharpie.
Fun project.

seems like the Grohmann #1 is your real edc ;)
You are somewhat correct . It is one that I do have with me when I am out doing work in the yard and flowers . The 2019 Blade Forums knife is probably the closest to being what I consider an EDC . Today I just put these 2 in my pockets for today and when I go outside to plant some Tulip Bulbs I will most likely have the Grohmann Bird & Trout with me too .

The best safety award ever! Thanks for the laugh!

It's funny you say that, I had kinda thought a lambsfoot but a hawk would be good too. Maybe it'll give me the push I need to actually get a little belt sander! Haha. I've been putting it off, which is also putting off progress on some things i'd like to learn.

The kleins aren't expensive, true, and I have a couple more of this pattern in reserve. Finding these large sheepsfoot knives is a little more time consuming than the other ones especially with fuller blades. I'm pretty sure Ulster made them but the Ulster/kutmaster name on the same pattern seems to make the prices higher and I haven't seen too many of them.

The wood and pins used to recover it probably totaled more than the knife lol. It was just a favorite and a shame to see a hole blown in it after spending all the time working on it.

It’s going to be a beautiful day here in the City by the Bay! CAB for now we’ll see if the fog rolls in later. Heading out to the pharmacy to pick up some iron supplements. Blood work says I’m a little anemic so my doc told me to take them for 90 days and then come in for another blood test. Keeping me company will be the ebony lamb and SAK Electrician. 😀

Elegant yet practical pairing Harry  It's wonderful to plant bulbs, all through the dark months they are here waiting to give us beauty. Wish more humans were like that....Been trying to plant Crocus myself (if the voles & mice don't harvest them first ) but the rain hasn't stopped for a couple of days. Paience is a must for any gardener though .
