Love stories like thisStumbled across this SAK ‘Astronaut’ in the back of a display case at a good old-fashioned hardware store. Based on what I’ve found, this started off as a Master Craftsman and was renamed Astronaut in the late-1980’s. It’s a pre-1991 version, so it’s more than likely been sitting there for 25+ years … it was time for it to go home!!

That makes me happy.my hand crafted knife slip from you is still getting a ton of use and aging well. Its my favorite and gets a lot of well deserved compliments from others I show it off to
The pull is smooth now I can pinch main blade open, it was very firm when I first got it.Your Bunny looks like it gets a lot of use. How's the pull on it? A friend of mine has one and the pull on his is hard.
I don’t really know how to make apple butter in small quantities, but our recipe is apple cider, apples, sugar, real clove oil and real cinnamon oil. We start with one gallon of cider in each copper kettle on a wood fire. Then add apple snits to the cider— about three 5 gallon buckets, and bring them to a rolling boil. When they cook down, keep adding until all your apples are in the kettle. After all the apples are in, cook them until they are dissolved and continue cooking most of the water out. After several hours add cane sugar to taste and boil about another hour; then add clove and cinnamon oil to taste. That’s the way the old timers made it. I’ve known people who claim to have success using canned apple sauce, but I have no experience with it. There is a lot of labor in it with the peeling and snitting of the apples and also the constant stirring, but the end product is very rewarding. That’s about all there is to it. See post # 269,236 for pictures.Lovin' the matching pins on those barlows
Also could you post the recipe for apple Butter, never tried that and I would like to make some. It looks tasty!
That's a very neat knife, Jack, however it's marked! Pearl covers?'ve seen a 'Sheffield nail file' and a 'Sheffield-style nail file' Rachel, which I think indicates it being the full width of the knife, and opening in that fashion. They are cool-lookingI like the stamping on this one, but unfortunately the blades are stamped for Joseph Rodgers!

Very cool CharlieRoughly my age (1940s), this knife looks a bit better than I do, but we get along fine; it's in my pocket today!!! Case XX big Jack - 6231 1/2 - genuine Redbone - 3 3/4" of Snappy walk and talk!!
Just worn and patina-ed enough to be used and carried without devaluing it!! Love it!!View attachment 2373130View attachment 2373132
