What "Traditional Knife" are ya totin' today?

Great to see you back posting regularly. I have certainly missed your incredible pictures everyday. Beautiful Kabars!

Thank you Ellis. I appreciate your knives and pics as well. ☺️

Is perrrrrrdy Springfield Officer the .45ACP; 10mm; or .38 Super flavor? 😍
Them Ka-Bar is fantastic, as well. Luv that Barlow.

Thank you my friend. The Springfield is a 9mm Champion model with 4 inch barrel. That big ole Kabar dogs head just makes it look a bit smaller. 🤣

They say we're getting rain later today. That's good because there'll be no snow to shovel but bad because the snow that's still on the ground will melt off rapidly and make for a soggy mess and possible flooding in low laying areas and in the low part of town. We're staying home so this 4-dot (1976) Case 6235 1/2 Swell End/Capped Jack will do. Hash and eggs for breakfast.

Getting some reading done to up my cooking game. Slimline Case is helping out, or maybe getting in the way 🤔

Your Case slimline trapper is marvelous!:thumbsup::cool:
What does Case call the "color" of that bone?

Blind or not, that's one heck of an acorn you found, Chris! 😲:thumbsup:
Is that pattern the 2OT, the first Old Timer pattern Schrade released?
I'd probably call it a crown jack, but a couple of websites on Old Timer history claimed the 2OT was a Barlow pattern, even though the included photo looked like yours (but not with stag!)

...

Have a good day everyone :) Carrying my Hartshead Barlow and Abbeydale Jack

Congrats on the double stag carry, Jack; those are a couple of my favorite knives of yours!:cool::thumbsup:
My wife has a friend who lives on a street that we reach by taking Abbeydale Drive.

Starting the day off in double digits (+11F) and supposed to get above freezing late this afternoon. Compared to the last 5 days that's a huge warm up. Then it gets bitterly cold again tommorrow night. I've been hunkered down the last few days. Going to get out and run some errands today. Y'all have a nice day :)

Mike, I admire the interesting examples you find of the serial number from your recent Forum knife!:cool::thumbsup:
Stay warm.

Two fine interests and a fantastic knife, Bob.

Very complementary blades, Jon, very nice.

Nothing not to like there, great clip point and usefully lamb, Paul.

My old Viper found its way back home thanks to Todd. It’s shown today with your daily dose of dad jokes, Amir Fleschwund Amir Fleschwund .

Glad your Viper came home to roost, Jeremy! :)
I'm enjoying your daily dad jokes calendar, even though I can rarely remember jokes I hear. That apocalypse joke, that I'd never heard before, immediately rocketed into my Top Five! 😁:cool:

Well, they say nature hates a vacuum, Jer.😎

Done.🤙

Got a medium Klein lockback, and fixed and modded Opinel No.8 today.
Back in the late ‘70s, I did some backpacking ~ parts of the Appalachian Trail, West Virginia, the Grand Canyon, the Oachita Mtns. in Arkansas, etc. Pre-internet, so all my gear was purchased at small specialty shops, and mail order catalogs. That was how I discovered Opinels. Backpackers favored them, as well as Swiss Army Knives for their utility and light weight. Many years later, I dropped the Opi point down on concrete, and broke off the tip. Then more years later, found it in a toolbox, and decided to re-shape the blade and “customize” the beechwood.View attachment 2460507View attachment 2460506Balmy today ~ nine degrees as I type this.
Jeff, I enjoyed the story of, and the current look of, your vintage Opinel!:cool::cool:

Leaving for town in a couple hours. We haven't been since last Thursday so we need to get some vittles for the larder. The Wagon Wheel Cafe is closed on Wednesdays so we'll most likely eat at the Brass Rail. It's lamb stew day and the owner uses lamb meat from the lambs they raise. They serve it with salad and homemade bread. Yummy!!!!! Putting off breakfast to save room for lamb stew. I'll be carrying this Black Curly Maple SS Sowbelly on our adventure.

ED. your Case sowbelly looks fantastic with the blue shield set in that maple!:thumbsup::cool:

just in case PG&E comes by and needs my expertise Johnny-On-The Spot.

Hi FC, great cutlery today.
I have an eclectic mix right now.View attachment 2460661

Gary, your seach-foo is better than mine :)

Thanks guys! Exactly what I wanted to know. I didn't know about the half-stops. Regarding the length, Case lists the length of the 032 as 3.63" (3 5/8") on their website. I took my digital caliper to the one I have here and measured 3.55". So, unsurprisingly, Charlie is more accurate than Case :D👍
Semi-amazing that Charlie and I got our info from the same human source, even though Charlie's came from a famous book and mine came from a reply to an obscure BF question thread. 🤓

I use a red SAK (have a couple different ones) seems appropriate for a team that loves to blitz! 🤣
:thumbsup::thumbsup::)

It's a lemon liqueur. And it goes really well over vanilla bean ice cream!
Thanks for the very informative reply, Tyson!:thumbsup::cool:

Yes, it is the 893 and equally handy. My glove did get about a 20 year break from the time I left college until my son started playing baseball a couple years ago.
Thanks for the Schrade clip/sheep jack confirmation, Bart. :)
That info about your ball glove makes sense, too; "use it or lose it" doesn't really apply to ball gloves. I had my first glove from about 9 to 16, and used it a lot; I don't think it wore out, but it was really a kid's small glove. I got a new fielder's glove when I was 16 and used it all through high school, occasionally in college, and then in my 20s I started playing a lot of slo-pitch softball - 3 times a week many summers. I wore out my 2nd glove and a 3rd one doing that, and bought another one about 1985. By then I was down to playing only 10-12 games each summer, so that's still my regular glove. But I haven't played since 2017 because of cataracts, cataract surgery, COVID shut-downs, and the demise of my church-league team.

Unforgettable knife!! :cool::thumbsup::thumbsup:

I was very conservative on my last trip and only brought a Vic classic. Feeling a little bolder and wanting something more substantial, I purchased an Alox Electrician to add to my pocket when abroad. I think this daily carry will meet all my needs.

I am reminded of the exceptional quality for the money that victorinox provides. It’s really well built and boringly consistent. i consider a SAK traditional, but I find that a new SAK has no soul. Great tool, but nothing more. Perhaps that feeling will change over the next month of carry.

Congrats on your Vic Electrician!:cool::thumbsup: That's probably my favorite SAK, although the Farmer is a close second (and I've never tried an Alox "X-model" with scissors - that also appeals to me).
I guess I know what you mean about SAKs lacking "soul", but they sure have a lot of desirable features: sunk joints; smooth, symmetric profile; textured cover (on Alox); lots of variety in blade/tool combos; widely available; relatively inexpensive.

Thank you Bart, it is often a nice accent.
Hope your son has made a full recovery now.🙏
Thanks. He’s fully recovered and doing great. In fact he has Little League tryouts today.

Hope you’re fully recovered as well. Sounds like you were back on the golf course in a flash. 👍

That’s an amazing pair!

What’s the model number on that Kabar? Nice one. 👍
Thank you! That’s a great question. It’s only stamped Kabar; it doesn’t have a model number; it’s not even stamped USA. It’s the only one I’ve ever seen, and I can’t find any information about it. It’s a good solid user; I wish I could find a backup to put in my knife cabinet.

Well it’s a nice on, and one I’ve never seen before either. Nice find, I’ll be looking for its twin. That clip blade is pretty sweet.
