Stag and bone set the tone!
Your Keen Kutter Kattle Knife is like a breath of fresh air!Outdoor thermometer says it’s 64 here in the Pacific Northwest so I’ve got some windows open letting some fresh air in. Keen Kutter Cattle knife seemed like a good idea today.

How do you like the Tribal Lock so far? I was pleasantly surprised by how much I enjoyed carrying one.A Case Tribal lock that I've had for years but never really carried for today.

"Can't you see what that woman been doin to me?"I moved to Missouri in 1984. I intended to stay for a couple of years, then move to the Rockies. Then a woman got involved. She's gone, but 40 years later I'm still here. Life is funny![]()
Your 88 sowbelly is definitely an ace!
Congrats, Vince!View attachment 2475378
A basic Recruit, just received today.
Cool Case canoe closing in on a half-century!Overcast and chilly here in The Bluegrass State. Got to do some errands and shopping. The ‘75 canoe and U.S.A stamped two blade are riding shotgun. Not sure who made it. Y’all have a great day. Stay sharp!!View attachment 2475414
Congrats on finding your first knife; it's a beauty! We were going through some boxes in the garage this weekend and we finally found my first pocketknife. I knew it was here, I just couldn't lay my hands on it. My uncle gave it to me when I was 11. A Kabar 1081 stockman. What a treat to finally locate it.

Thanks, Jack; both stag canoes are a little bit mysterious to me, too. Both special![]()

I DO like it, and I'll ask you what I always used to ask my daughter when she was little: How did you come up with that??
Cool RR!

Agreed! Thanks GT, these two are really nice knives.
Did you notice that all the quotes were from posts that were at least a week old? I have a procrastination problem.Sir, I believe you now hold the record for the most quotes in a single postGood kudos to everyone
Wow! Those don't show up here very often!...
Thanks, yes it's an original Tidioute Cutlery![]()
I played city league slo-pitch softball against (and with) some guys that probably should have been in prison, but never played an actual inmate team. Thanks Gary, surprising how much life is left in it.
Favorite baseball memory was playing the inmates in Sing Sing prison during my college summers.
Thank you, Gary!
Your comment about the old-guy league reminds me of my son. When he was living in Scotland, and running marathons, he joined a club that ran, and raced, trails on the highest mountains in the country. The club consisted of mostly old guys who were hard and tough as nails. Serious, hard core folks who a younger guy did not dare to try to outrun.
You're a successful researcher, José!Thanks Gary, another find from my research!!![]()
I have a couple of Case knives with Wharncliffe blades that are quite lamb-like, as on your Rancher. Here's one on a copperhead:...
Thanks Gary. Others have pointed out its “lamb-ish” qualities also…I like the character of the patina also.![]()

Tom, most "basic" canoes are VERY similar: 3 5/8" closed, same frame shape, spear/pen blade combo; main difference seems to be handle material/color and blade steel. So you can probably get a good idea of whether you like the pattern from almost any canoe. Thanks GT! That beer scout gets a lot of use but wears it well. I am looking into the canoe pattern, haven’t decided on a starter model yet but have checked out multiple posts of your examples as a guide
These two today, this scout from AG Russel needs more pocket time.

Thanks for the extra info about your Maserin; I really liked the checkered handle....
Thanks, Gary. It's one I don't regret purchasing, has solid lock up when open, blade deploys nicely and its pretty light weight for its size.
Mostly it stays in the door pocket of my truck and but it does come out and gets used.
...
I thought I'd tote around a couple older knives today. The Remington is as solid as any of my best knives. I took a chance on it on the big auction site about 7 or so years ago and wasn't at all disappointed when it arrived in the mail. I picked up the Catt at the badger blade show last spring, the bone, shield and pattern was more than I could resist.
I'm looking forward to the upcoming blade show and hanging out with the fine group of fellow forum members I met there last year. I may even look at some knives while there.

Our SBJrs are definitely different shades, but what I like about both of them is that the color of each is so uniform end-to-end.Thanks, GT!!There's just something special about them. Can't explain it, really. The deep burgundy on yours is pretty perfect, IMO.

I think there's a greater lesson to be learned here. After reviewing a couple of your math lessons, I now have full confidence in my ability to solve most any math problem with a high degree of accuracy. No calculator, computer, phone, nor abacus required. It's very simple in theory and works something like this... "Hey, GT! If you can solve this, I'll give you this snazzy new Canoe." Ha! Problem solved.I DO like it, and I'll ask you what I always used to ask my daughter when she was little: How did you come up with that??
(For example,
1) used a calculator/computer/phone/abacus/other technology
2) Doubled 44 to 88, doubled again to 176, so that's 4 x 44; add another 44: 176+4+40 = 180+40 = 220
3) (40+4) x 5 = 40 x 5 + 4 x 5 = 200 + 20 = 220
4) 44 x 5 = 44 x 10 ÷ 2 = half of 440 = 220)
Thanks, Gary. Both are vintage and vibrant!
What are the covers on each? (My guess is the top one is horn?)
