Not doing much outside today, it’s raining cats and dogs. It’s a good chance to catch up on shelling my stash of fresh pecans. I’ve heard tell of using the shells for smoking meat so I’ll save them and try it out soon on baby back ribs or a pork shoulder.

Great photo! I haven’t tried the shells but I use pecan wood when smoking ribs, it provides a flavor I really like without the harshness that can accompany mesquite or hickory.
I try to get by with my own wood. Some are “approved” smoking wood ~ apple, maple, and cherry. But the one I have the most of is ash, thanks to the Emerald Ash Borer. It actually makes a nice mild smoke.I have mostly used apple or cherry. I’ve been meaning to get some pecan wood.
I love the idea of using what you have, and planting to provide for future generations. Love it!I try to get by with my own wood. Some are “approved” smoking wood ~ apple, maple, and cherry. But the one I have the most of is ash, thanks to the Emerald Ash Borer. It actually makes a nice mild smoke.
And I have a stack of ash lumber milled on a friend’s sawmill for guitar bodies
I have shagbark hickories that I grew from nuts that will be ready in about eighty years![]()
Do I see tomato cages?
Yes that’s our little raised bed off the basement porch I threw together. It’s not pretty but the deer can’t touch it and it produces enough for the wife and I all summer. I probably should have cleaned it up at the end of the season last year.Do I see tomato cages?
We’re months away from that yet.

They somehow got word that you were on the water. Who's the snitch??

Enjoy your super bowl Sunday everyone. If not a football fan, hope you enjoy yours in your own way.View attachment 2491361
