  • Today marks the 24th anniversary of 9/11. I pray that this nation does not forget the loss of lives from this horrible event. Yesterday conservative commentator Charlie Kirk was murdered, and I worry about what is to come. Please love one another and your family in these trying times - Spark

What "Traditional Knife" are ya totin' today?

A Buck 301 with BG-42 blade steel and Westinghouse Micarta covers.
Before PM blade steels were a thing, BG-42 was king of the heap. Buck used it occasionally, as they purchased their 420HC from Latrobe. Latrobe was the manufacturer of BG-42. Latrobe has since been purchased by Carpenter.

Don’t focus on the knife in this picture today. The focus is the sunset from our family lake house. Life is full of sunsets … some painful … all beautiful in their own way. I had previously posted about my son’s wedding last weekend. It was a wonderful celebratory weekend with the entire family; it couldn’t have been better. Sadly, as my oldest brother and his wife were making their way back north, he suffered a massive coronary event at the hotel in Atlanta. He was rushed to the hospital, but it took 45-60 minutes to restore a pulse. He never regained consciousness. He passed peacefully with our entire family by his side on Wednesday.

As the eldest of 5 boys, he set the standard as a son/brother/father/papa/uncle/friend. He was universally kind and accepting. We are broken, but drawing strength from our family and friends and relishing all the memories we have.

Life is short and fleeting … enjoy each day and don’t sweat the small stuff.

From 2 Timothy 4:7 - I have fought the good fight, I have finished the race, I have kept the faith. Rest in power my brother, my hero, my friend!

I'm so sorry for your loss. In 2020 I lost my younger brother to Brain Cancer 1 week after diagnosis. And my older brother has been battling Stage 4 lung cancer (mets to brain) with chemo and radiation since 2014, with chemo for Lymphoma in 2022-2023. So, his time is limited too. It really makes you wake up to your mortality, and all other kinds of thoughts.

Sorry to hear about your brothers. My brothers and I fought like most boys do as kids and we were often mean to each other. As adults, we have been very close and gather as a group 4-5 times per year. I am grateful for all the memories we’ve shared. Life is short, make time for family and friends!
