What "Traditional Knife" are ya totin' today?

My first knife came home !

A Case USA no dots (1965-69) XX red bone model 6332 medium stockman was my first knife, back around 1965 or 1966. I remember buying it at the hardware store, in my little town ..... I was around 11 or 12 years old. The hardware store was my last customer on my daily paper route ..... via bicycle.

I parted with my paper route earnings to obtain the red bone ( leaning towards a pretty shade of reddish brown ) medium stockman. I toted the stockman every day, loose in my pockets, until it went missing when I was around seventeen years old. I replaced it with a Case XX Sodbuster, which eventually went missing as well. Those were my first two knives and the last two knives which I ever lost. They may have not even been lost, considering my older brother also had a keen interest in Case knives. ;)

I'll fast forward you to early this week when this user medium stockman came up on our exchange. I kept going back to it, looking again and again, wondering why it was still there. It didn't dawn on me at the time that the 6332 was from the same era and the exact model of my first lost (saying it nicely ;)) knife. After looking at least six different times ....... I had to say "I'll take it".

After opening the package yesterday, it took me all of thirty seconds for the light bulb to come on. 💡 It was almost as if my long lost Case had found its way home. A prettier shade of red than my original stockman, but, there was no doubt, after handling that old familiar pattern.🦖😊 I cleaned the bone and rubbed on it till I was satisfied, then did some blade cleaning ...... just enough to look a little better before adding a patina to them. My original one had gray patina on all blades and I came close to duplicating it with my forced patina.

Well ..... to say I'm pleased is an under statement ...... I'm back to long britches since it turned cold today ............... so in my watch pocket it went. I hope you like it too. 😊

Pretty much out of commission for the weekend. Suffered a fall in the bathroom last night getting ready for bed. Turned for a washcloth, hooked my toe on the clothes hamper, fell into the partition wall between the toilet and shower stall, and down I went smacking my head on the toilet bowl on the way down. This Buck 055 is all I'll need for the duration. Skipping breakfast for a ham sandwich at lunch time.

Sorry to hear, Ed. Hope you mend in quick order. Take care.

I had no intention of buying the Remington pruner. Never have had a pruner, and really the pattern has never “called” to me. Until one day in the yard I had my Barlow out pruning various things. Well…that’s all the excuse I needed to buy the Remington silver bullet pruner. Works as advertised. Not disappointed.

Glad no serious damage! 😁👍

A childhood friend and neighbor from Junior High through High School graduation, when I moved to my first appartment (as was expected, in 1974) fell and hit his head on his coffee table in the dark, about 4 or 5 years ago.
My understanding is his wife discovered his body "first thing" the next morning. ☹️
(what a horrible start to her day ...😳😲🥺)

I hate to hear that Ed, I hope your recovery goes well. Get your rest & don't push yourself too hard. Head injuries are no joke. (I know from experience)

Edit to add: If you experience any dizziness, nausea or mood swings get to a doctor asap!

Sorry to hear that Ed. Make sure you monitor it and get it checked out for a concussion if you experience any dizziness.

Very handsome pair of knives, Paul!:thumbsup::cool:

Both outstanding, Rob, but the KA-BAR-LO really pulls at the heartstrings!:thumbsup::thumbsup:

Couple IXL knives today.

You certainly do excel with that duo, David!🤓

Handsome trio, Steve.
Now that I have the chance, here’s another size comparison.

Your "alphabet soup" sure is a couple of well-matched, vibrant, vintage knives, Steve!:cool::cool:

Feet up enjoying some 🌞.
Speaking of alphabet, Bob, do you think you could string together a couple of weeks of daily pairs whose makers would take us through the alphabet, in order?? 🤓 Your Albers and Böker are an awesome, beautiful start!:thumbsup::cool:

Jer, your Kirinite ruby stardust knife reminds me of the lyrics of the Joni Mitchell "Woodstock" song:
We are stardust, we are golden
We are billion-year-old carbon
And we've got to get ourselves
Back to the garden

I don't have a ruby stardust knife, and I don't know where to get one in ever-popular glitter gold. And although I have quite a few knives with carbon steel blades, I doubt if they're billion-year-old carbon.
But I know where I can get a silver sparkle Rough Ryder, and once I do that, that'll be good enough for me!🤓

Hi folks,

I haven't been on as much lately.
My father started going downhill last October, and he passed peacefully about a month ago.

I have the Bunny that was a gift from @Chief , and the Humpback that @315 gave me a great deal on, and now I have been carrying Dad's MOP Peanut. View attachment 2552596
My sympathies on the passing of your father.
That pearl Peanut is a superb way to spark your memories of him.

Splendid 2024 Alox SAK, José!:thumbsup::cool:
You get one every year, right? How far back in time does your collection of the "annual SAKs" go?

Winning Winchester, Will! :cool::thumbsup::thumbsup:

I like that the branch under your knife itself resembles the front of a fish!;)

No wood for me this Wednesday :)

Rousing red Farmer, Tom! :cool::cool::thumbsup:

IMHO, all of the Case sowbelly stockman knives are first-class!:cool::cool:
