What "Traditional Knife" are ya totin' today?

I dyed this one yesterday. It was a pale yellow.

Oh, it’s done! I’m a terrible “collector”, they all have to be used or leave the flock! And this one is not going anywhere! 😁
I am the same way. Alrhough there are many opportunities to carry the “special” knives, such as going to church, when there is little risk of hard use or losing one. For me, that means the antiques. I am not likely to risk cracking old peachseed bone while bumbling around the garden. Every new GEC (not that many) is fair game for getting used the way it was made to be.

On the other hand, I respect the actual collectors among us who keep their knives in as new condition~ especially when they share the photos. We’re all in the same family of trad knife lovers.

When I first got this Wenger, I opened the main, but couldn’t close it. Finally figured out that you press the shield to release the lock.
I enjoy large Jacks. I wish the GEC 54 Big Jack had a smaller secondary like the 23, because I use that blade a lot.

During a cleanup this past winter, I came across some birdhouse and bathouse kits left over from my Asst. Scoutmaster days, and assembled them. I don’t think anyone has moved into this one yet, but it looks like something was trying to enlarge the opening.

My lovely daughter purchased an afternoon knife making class at THE BLACKSMITH EXPERIENCE for Father's Day so I could have something I wanted to do one day while everyone else was at the beach during our Alabama vacation. It was tons of fun and I learned a lot. My knife is far from perfect but it's definitely in the forever section of the collection.

What a thoughtful gift from your daughter! :thumbsup::cool::cool::thumbsup:
Looks like you were a very successful student in the class! :thumbsup::thumbsup::cool:

Two beauties, Rob; that Primble slim jack is especially appealing! :cool::thumbsup::thumbsup:

I finally found my big Kabar jack!
I've been looking for it for ages; I knew I'd hidden it somewhere too clever for me.

You know where it was? Right on top in the jack-overflow/trapper tin.
Congrats on finally locating that big Ka-bar! :thumbsup::cool::thumbsup:

Why stray from a good thing.

Superb sowbelly! :cool::cool::thumbsup:

Case Peabody Coal Co. Trapper, and High Carbon (Camillus) Craftsman Camp Knife.

Three teenaged granddaughters are here this week🥰. So much more relaxing than the high intensity five and eight year olds who were here last week. These girls lived with us for several years after their Dad got home from Afghanistan. It was a rough time while he dealt with his injuries, but a blessed time all the same. I was the old guy picking them up at their grade school, kinda out of place with all the 25 yr old moms. Then to the kitchen table to do their homework.
The oldest leaves for college this fall accepted into a military forensics program, and the 17 yr old intends to study medicine and serve in the military after high school.

And the 14 yr old asked me for guitar lessons while they’re here.😎
Nice pair of knives, Jeff! :thumbsup::cool::cool:

I hope everyone enjoyed the 3 teens' visit. Too late for me to make a guitar lesson suggestion (and I know nothing about playing or teaching guitar), but this would be a good song for a 14-year-old to learn: solid, community-building lyrics and a catchy, fuzzy, bluesy guitar accompaniment.

A cool and foggy day at my house in the City by the Bay! Today’s front page speaks for itself. Have a great day folks! 😀

Sensational pair, Steve! That Sportsman seems like a rare pattern. :thumbsup::thumbsup::cool:

Classic Böker Barlow! :cool::thumbsup::thumbsup:

Off to town in a an hour or so for lunch at the Lazy B. I'll be carrying the knife I spoke of - errrrrrrrrrrrrr typed of yesterday - a 2002 single blade Sowbelly with Peach Seed Jigged Antique Bone covers. As I typed yesterday I had one already but jumped on the new one as a primary carry knife.

The one I received yesterday and am carrying today on top

Both of those knives were made in 2002. Just goes to show that bone coloring differs from side to side on a knife as well as knife to knife.
Superb matched set of single-blade sowbellies, ED! :thumbsup::cool::thumbsup:

I only have 9 Canoe + 1 Gunboat, including a back-up RR 1736 Classic Carbon.
Of the 9+1 only te Classic Carbon ans Case are carbon steel.
TBH the Case has gotten the most pocket time of the three. (back-up RR needs the main's longpull reformed. Top has a "\" angle so thumbnail slips off. 😡☹️ I'll hit it with a dremel cut-off wheel "someday" so the thumbnail don't slide off.

Poor canoist on my Case probably can't see past the tip a his knows, "thanks" to the heavy patina fog ... fact is you can almost see him and his vessel. ☹️🥺

I have emailed CASE.
Re-etching him and the canoe is not possible.

Makes sense in a way. Before my guy got lost in the fog I noticed there are minor differences in the canoe and ripples in the water from one year to the next. 🤯😳
They likely don't have the correct etch pattern for whatever year a 5 "x" with 2 "*" is anymore.

My user RR isn't quite so foggy ... yet ...

Of the two, the CASE gets more carry time and use. It is probably my favorite Canoe ... that I have ...
If I didn't know the blade etch was there, I don't think I'd see any of it on your knife anymore.
My blade etches seem to stay around for a long time, maybe because most of my knife use is cutting food, so the etch really doesn't experience much abrasion.

Superb Swayback Jack! :cool::cool::thumbsup:

Happy Saturday !

Stunning stag pair, Steve! :thumbsup::cool::cool:

Those GT's are wicked fast.
Kind of you to say so, Bob, but I've really lost a lot of velocity over the past few years! ;)🤓

5K Qs 5K Qs ~ Thank you!
Regarding her 1st guitar lesson, it was all about the mechanics. How to hold it, fret it, pick it, keep your body and arms relaxed…
But once she kinda got that, I got her going on a 3 string, 2 chord blues riff. Get to the fun stuff right away to get her hooked was my theory, not Down In The Valley chord strumming that is in my 1967 edition of Mel Bay’s Beginning Guitar book that’s going home with her.

We went up the road to visit the sister-in-law yesterday and stopped at the mailboxes to collect our mail. I put the mail in the console and something bright and colorful caught my eye. It was this Sod Buster Jr. I'd forgotten all about. I took it out of the console, put it in my pocket, carried it the rest of the day and will carry it again today. I just might put it back in the console and use it as a truck knife. Sausage and waffles for breakfast.
