What "Traditional Knife" are ya totin' today?

These two today:

This 1994 Remington Silver Bullet Camp Knife was made, and subsequently rejected, by Camillus as evidenced by the 'X'ed out Remington tang stamp and the lack of the Remington logo etch on the master clip blade.

It came to me unused, but with a horrendously wavy and heavily recurved primary bevel and a severely rounded tip on the master blade - possibly the basis for its rejection? I have little knowledge of the internal QC processes at Camillus but if anyone here does and can shed any light on the background of these, I'd be interested to hear more. In any case, the rest of the knife is flawless. Fortunately, I'll eventually be able to sharpen out the wonky grind entirely, but in the interest of not removing more material than necessary, I was satisfied with being able to get a clean apex that takes, and seemingly holds, a very nice edge.

She's a big girl, and I often refer to her as my "Poor Man's Texas Camp Knife" - just let me have my fantasy, dammit!!! 🤣 I often clip a chain to the bail with the other end attached to a belt loop, as this thing is so heavy I don't know how well the bone would survive a drop to an unforgiving surface and I'm trying not to find out. That said, there's something about a knife so hefty that it could be used to peen the pins on a lesser knife - yeah, I went there... lesser knives, because there's less of them! 🤣

Included for scale is a lovely 1970 Case Peanut wearing sophisticated stag pants gifted to me by a friend in the Bearcat community. Thanks, Josh!

Had to go with a favorite today, even though it is a bit hot and humid for it. Gave it a new coat of EDCi last night, so it’s still holding its shine just fine so far 😂

I don’t usually carry carbon steels because I am paranoid about pitting and rust damage, and I’m a big guy who sweats a lot in the summer 😂😂
This one is probably never leaving the collection though because I just love it too much!

Was able to go to the O’s Game today as part of an event hosted by another company. Had to go with the O’s knife of course, and it worked! Jackson Holliday’s first game back up from AAA and he hits a grand slam! What an amazing experience live. For a noon game there was maybe 30% of a crowd but it was rockin’ loud when that ball made it to Uetaw St.

I didnt expect to end up on the flight deck of a Vulcan bomber today with a RAF aircrewman showing me around.
😁

It was fascinating, yet at the same time very claustrophobic and it felt about 20 degrees hotter than the allready steaming runway.
🤣

It makes you realise just how audacious the bomb run into the Falklands was.
He showed me everything including the black out blinds to shield eyes from an atomic bomb blast, which the crew knew they wouldnt be coming home from.
The mental strain back in those days must have been overwhelming.

I only went out to scrub my new tyres in and have lunch at a small airfied in the Cotswolds.

On the way back I stopped and bought some fresh bread and cheese as I felt a bit peckish.
Sitting in a village square using my boys knife 15 which was perfect for the job. 🤭

Another 301 today. This one was a special run made in 2014 for the Buck Collector's Club with ivory micarta covers and BG-42, a steel originally developed by Latrobe Steel. Before the advent of PM alloys, BG-42 had the highest edge retention of any available knife steel. CRK used to use it prior to changing to S30V. Buck occasionally used it.

Been there. Done that! After quite a bit of research and a ton of browsing, this is my one and only Case barlow... 2019 CV "brown sawcut". The combination of CV steel, the bolster stamp, and no shield checked all the boxes! There was also a yellow version if I'm not mistaken. There are actually 3-4 of these floating around the porch, but the sawcut covers vary greatly. Decisions, decisions... 😵‍💫

Clip vs spear? 1 bl. Vs 2 bl.? SS vs CS? Shield vs no shield. Oh, and don't forget about the 483 cover options for each!
They did those in carbon steel ?
Man I wish I had gotten one.
I have been loving my Case Barlow lately after making it into all I could have been, but that was a much better offering than the grey bone I was stuck with to get CS.

Well, after taking a hiatus I figured I’d post today. I’m still dealing with an irregular heart beat and went in for my second Cardio Version last Friday. Didn’t work so now try again with a different and stronger medication and retest in a few weeks🤞. In the meantime another foggy day here in the City by the Bay! Keeping me company a Alger’s lamb and my Bullet End Barlow. Have a great day folks! 😀

Good luck!! It’s not uncommon for the ‘search to control A-Fib’ to take a bit of time and several different remedies. 🙏 that the solution for you will reveal itself soon!! In the meantime, listen to the docs and your body.

Got the yard cut and trimmed and some other outdoor work done before the rain showed up. Crab grass showed up in a hurry last week. I picked up my old saw-cut bone Boker Barlow as I was going out the door. Ended up with a nice nap with Elijah J. the Mainecoon 🐈‍⬛ while the rain was pattering down. 😊

I cut up some fried chicken with this #86 last week and just wiped the blade on my pants. This mess is the result! I’ve been trying to even it out cutting fruit, but I think a date with a tube of Flitz is in order.

Try putting a heavy coat of oil and a small speck of Flitz and rub it around with your finger to mix it up and rub it lightly with 0000 steel wool and wipe off. Might make it look good. 😊
