Out of curiosity fueled by poor memory, I just went and checked ~ yes, one of my 5000s is on an Ugly Stick as well.

The thread wrap always gives the Ugly's away. Post 81 pre China Abu's are like casting a 1960's Ferrari. I've been using/collecting their 7000 series since I was a baby

Even with it’s “beauty marks”, that jack still has very little actual blade loss. Wise decision in not trying to remove them like some Fluffer ‘n Buffer seller on the bay!

I really doubt that I would do that over again. I had more Mojo back then. As I recall, it was all of the white paint in the grain of the wood that challenged me most. Tar, paint, rust, lots of grime.
When I unpackaged it, I recall thinking that I might have bitten off more than I could chew ................. but it worked out in the end and it is a solid knife again.

A pair of early Cattaraugus Jacks that have seen a lot of use, but, still are hard snapping and capable.
The bare head Cocobolo Jack was one of my more challenging cleanup tasks ..... about ten years ago.

I'll add to the gasps of appreciation, a really fine job, you must have been working as a professional restorer for museums Joking apart, it's a superb bit of work that shows off a beautiful vintage piece to its best. I'm certainly not of the "leave 'em rusting in their authenticity skool " This is preservation and enhancement, not making it look new but making it look beautiful in use, a tribute to those who made it and carried it no less And that Spear...just D.....
