What "Traditional Knife" are ya totin' today?

Ha! That's exactly what I've called it from the get-go, my Harlequin Barlow. :D

It was an instant favorite favorite, even before it had my initials on the pen blade:

That is one of my favorite Charlows you have (or that there is!). I really like the mismatched handles on it. Gives it some great character. That one is definitely a keeper for sure! I like where you placed your initials on it as well...Very classy and a great way to personalize a knife. I would prefer the same spot rather than initializing the shield on a knife. Thanks for sharing

Thanks! Owning quintessentially perfect knives, the exceptions are all the more appealing to me (I'm not sure I'd be quite so fond of this one were it not for the backdrop of visual excellence against which I enjoy it...?).

As for the location, I think it's great, too, but cannot take credit for the placement or even the letters(!).

While at GEC, I happened to catch sight of someone else's "Store Second," identified as such by the overlapping "SS" engraved on a blade tang. I joked that every Store Second was actually mine-- each sported my initials, after all!

Once the above Harlequin became mine for true, Charlie hustled it off to have the Store Second designation my initials engraved on the pen blade's tang.

Perfection takes many forms. :)

That is really cool, Sarah! Was the knife considered a second to begin with because of the mismatched covers? I would think that would make it a 1 of 1! Very unique, and probably a bit more collectable than the others because of it. In any case, it is definitely convenient that the SS indicating 'Store Second' is also your initials. I imagine that this Charlow is 'the one' for you.

Brought this one to play today, it certainly is not only a sharp looker, it's down right sharp also !!

Yes, I believe it was/is considered a "Store Second" from the get-go because of the covers. I'm not sure of its back story beyond that 1) Charlie tends to snap up the idiosyncratic offerings amongst the barlows, including this one and 2) those who saw me with this knife after it became mine were surprised, if not shocked, that he'd let it go.

As for being "the one," amongst my TC barlows my single-bladed antique amber clip may always hold that title:

(Pictures of its recent trek up Mt. Washington, NH here.)

But, very similar to that knife, this harlequin has proven instantly accessible (for lack of a better word). lmmediately familiar (helped by the pen behind the main, a preferred location) and-- while deserving and receiving of appropriate care-- not something I feel I need to be too careful of, to the point of limiting its use.

A keep-ah, for sure. :)
