What "Traditional Knife" are ya totin' today?

Well, I'm wearing shorts today.
:eek::eek::thumbdn:

For me, that means carrying a light knife and I have an Opinel 6 in my pocket.

I was on the fence about buying ANOTHER 73 from this run, but I just had to have one of these Northfield in cocobolo. You guys are a bad influence... I Will post pics when mine arrives! Was it yours that has the nail breaker pull??

Until my 73 arrives...

I believe they all do, mine as well. A 7+ on this one. My other one, with the lanyard tube, is only a 6.

OK, as a Yankee Peddler lover of all things cheap yet good, wouldestous, could you give me an overview on the qualities and shortcomings of the knives in your second photo? I'm particularly interested in the Aitor and Mercator, especially as they compare to the more commonly found Opinel Carbon you've got in there. Thanx!

well, im not much of a formal reviewer so i dont know how much help i will be. lol

the mercator locks, though not in the same way as an opinel. the aitor does not lock but it has a strong backspring with a half stop so its still relatively difficult to close on your fingers while you are using it.
the most unobtrusive knife to carry would probably be the mercator. it is very very slim and light. the aitor is kind of heavy for its size but doesnt take up so much space. the opinel, while light, has a lot of diameter. but really, we are talking about pocket knives and none of them are nearly as conspicuous to carry as, say, my smartphone or wallet.
all three have carbon steel with fairly thin blades. i found the opinel and the mercator the easiest to sharpen but my skills are mediocre at best.
purely as objects the opinel is among the most elegant in design, the mercator is the most no-nonsense and the aitor is the most pretty. all three will cut stuff and any of them could be your new favorite.

I love the weekends in this thread. You folks always post awesome knives but it seems on the weekends y'all just turn it up a few notches. Thanks to all of ya', I really enjoy looking at all of your pics. It is the Utica trapper today.

Agreed on the Opinels! The No. 8 Garden Knife is the finest knife I've ever owned, and it's an order of magnitude cheaper than the most expensive one. I've also owned a No. 6 in Carbon, and it's the sharpest knife I've had in my hands, including pricey kitchen knives from Germany and Japan. (It did rust to pieces very early, tho. Mostly my fault for using it as a camp cooking knife without proper preventative maintenance.)

I'll start saving for the Aitor, as it's gorgeous. I love leaf-shaped blades. When I hit the lottery, I'll invest in a Saladini Maremanno a Foglia in ox-horn.

I own 4 pairs of shorts, and wear a pair outdoors once most years :D

Great knife

I like the blade selection

Man, I love that half-Congress Pete  I can't wait until my Eye Brand arrives.

Great Norfolk Gary, I'm thinking I'll put mine in my pocket for church:
