What "Traditional Knife" are ya totin' today?

GEC 74 and a real snappy old HSB sleeveboard whittler with black wooden covers, (ebony?). I've had these two in the pocket for the past 5 days. Probably pick another pair in the morning for weekend carry. I used the 74 to field dress a whitetail deer I took on Sunday and it performed very well at the task.
Hope everyone here has an outstanding weekend.

Thank you Mr C.!

I have not trolled the ‘bay for knives lately, but a few years ago, I came across a few Electrians and Hawkbills that had been modded like that. Some well done, some not so. Bought only the bad ones, so I could mod the mods just for fun. Kept one or two, gave one away.

Looks like you’re on your way to a well done mod. I like the shape of your edge.
Thanks AF. I’m not one to do mods much but I had something like $3.50 in this one and it is solid. No blade play, crazy good walk and talk, and the main had been put on a grinder and messed up pretty bad. I took a few cm off of it and dremeled the grinds out of it to get it uniform after re-profiling the buggered up tip and spine. I thought about putting a wicked little clip shape to the screwdriver but settled for a long coping/lamb shape instead.

Carrying an 86 again today. It's been putting in some work breaking down boxes.

I still get a kick out of these "warnings" aka suggestions 😂

The 86 in that configuration is probably my favorite gec currently. I’d like to find one in black to utilize as a user. I’ll probably start looking fairly soon, but they seem to be getting harder to come across.

Stag Saturday ... Szankovits ...
I wish I could get more Szankovits pocket knives but they are only sold in person at their shop in Szentendre Hungary. Or occasionally only the secondary market but rare.
This knife came to me used, from Pennsylvania where there is a large Hungarian-American population and is now a favorite.

I am Tibor Szankovits Pro Cultura awarded Master of the Folk Art. Together with my son, Örs Szankovits folk artist, we make the rooster emblematic knives. The great-great grandfather of my son carried on the same craft too, so our family has been making knives since 1800s.

We make our knives following and saving those professional craft techniques that have been matured during the centuries.

We believe in the importance of saving, fostering and if possible enriching the original world of Hungarian forms and motives. All of our workpieces are qualified by the House of Traditions’ Committee of the Folk Arts and Crafts.

Our trademark, the Rooster and the name of the family, is hammered into the blades.

We have been awarded several times during the years, the latest occasion was in 2016, I received the Creative Grand Prize by the Ministry of Human Resources during the Hungarian Crafts Exhibition in the Danube Palace.
We personally sell our knives only in Szentendre. We believe that our costumers have to touch the knives to get a closer relationship with them before they can choose the best one. Choosing the right knife is a lifelong decision. The House of Knives Museum in Szentendre is visited by many of our new and regular customers who like and collect traditional, high-level knives.

The neighbors had this thing out by the curb for the garbage man. They told Vik that they’d given up on trying to fix it, so she dragged it home for me to fix🙄
It came with a new battery and a handful of wires and weird connectors.
She snagged it in the hope that I could get it working because these two were coming for the week.
So the eight year old and I spent a chunk of a day taking it apart and figuring out the mess of wiring. And after figuring out how to reverse my DIS-assembly, by golly, it runs.
Peg-Perago, Italian made licensed copy of a John Deere Gator. It surprised me with it’s guts and with how long it runs on the 12 v battery. Two forward speeds, and reverse. Of course, the kids love it.
But I’m dropping them at the airport today, and wondering what the blazes I’m going to do with it now. We’ll probably donate it to my daughter’s day program for their next fund raiser rummage sale.

It is Schradurday, so my Schrade Split Back Whittler made for Sears will do.

This is my attempt at Surf Green, a General Motors color from the late fifties that Fender and Gibson used on some of their guitars.
It’s shellac with white and green tint sprayed on with Pre-Val sprayers. I am hoping that we get those forecasted 2 or 3 days in the 70s (farenheit) this coming week that will allow me to lay on ten or fifteen clear coats of nitro cellulose lacquer. If not, it could be months before it’s warm enough for spraying lacquer.

‘57 Caddilac in Surf Green

EDIT~ working on that thing gave me a good chance to show Remington how to properly use a TL-29 utility blade for stripping wires, prying, and turning screws. I thought I should do that after his admission that he had broken the blade on the Vic Camper SAK I’d given him for Christmas last year😬

Miscellaneous Knife of the Week is a Rough Rider smooth tobacco bone lockback medium trapper (thanks, Todd):

Lambsfoot of the Week is Union Jack, a rosewood A. Wright & Son lambsfoot my wife and daughter bought for me in a hardware store in York, England several years ago:

Decided to + the Robeson 622110 Big Jack to pocket today.

IMG_20240910_082847.jpg

My 2024 Traditional KOTY updayte:

Strong Carbon Steel contenders:

This Robeson, Western 062 and 742, 4 Line Camillus 33 EO Jack, Old Timer 8OT, Hollow Bolster Imperial 'Bicentenial' Stockman, CASE 6375CV, A. Write & Son 2019 Guardian's Lamb Foot.

Strong Stainless contenders:

Imperial 'Double Eagle' Pioneer Stockman, CASE 10375 Stockman, Buck 60th Anniversary 110, Rough Ryder RR2165 Cinnamon Bone Stag Canoe (with real/actual stainless steel Damascus - not faux laser etched "Damascus" - blades), SAK L.E. 'Swiss Spirit' Companion.

These were also somewhat in the running, but were eliminated for various causes:
CASE 3318CV stockman ("too small"), Ka Bar 1108 Stockman (stainless) (too small), Combo Knife and Catapult (Stainless 'Tanto' blade), Large Swing Blade/"Funny Knife" (Swing blade; Stainless 'Tanto' Blade. I have zero use/"need" for a Tanto blade. I am not taking out enemy sentries (I is an Civilian, and too old for that task, anyway), nor do I use a knife to pry open wood cases/crates. The "gods" (or "demons"?) invented pry bars for the latter task. 😇👍), CASE - CARHARTT 63087SS, Stockman, Ka Bar 1081 (Stainless!) Stockman,
The 63087SS and 1081 are great knives, but much smaller than I normally tote.

I have arrived to the conclusion I cannot choose just one.
They ALL "stand out". Aside from the two solo 'tanto' blades, they all have a useful blade/blade combination, and "click all the boxes" for me.
Hence it is "impossible" for me to pick just one, especially since several pair well with each other and/or something else in my collect ... "Accumulation". 🤨😇👍

"How did you add so many to your accumulation this year?!?!?" 🤯😳 You ask?
"Generous 'Porch' members." is my guess. I only bought 2 and traded for 1 this year ... so far ...
All the strong contenders were gifted to me. 😇

The Case 10375SS was won in a GAW. Someone else used his entry to nominate/play for me and won. 🤯 I consider the 19375SS a gift. Admittedly, That was one of the few GAWS I entered this year. Obviously, Eagle (forget "Par" 🤔🤨)for the course, my entry was not drawn.
I think my own entry has been drawn twice in the 10 years (🤯😳🤯 has it been that long??? 🤯😳😳 it don't feel like it.) I have been a BF member.
In two other GAW's my name wasn't drawn, but I still got a Knife: Charlie's 142122 Tom's Back Barlow ("People's Choice" award; 9 or 10 nominated me), and a Old Timer 858, which was at the time an unobtainium price-wise for me Grail knife.
(The GAW host had at least three. He sent one to the winner, and me, since it was one of my Grail knives, and he kept at least one.)

I sure hope Ms. Summer gets back from her vacation soon. I miss her greatly. ☹️🥺
