What "Traditional Knife" are ya totin' today?

Its a somber tote today. My last dog took a turn for the worst this weekend and had to be put down this morning.

He was originally my ex wives dog. When I was packed up and leaving with my bull dog, he sat on the couch with my ex staring like he was lost. I asked if he's coming. The little guy shot off the couch like a rocket, ran out the door and straight to the truck. He finished his last 12 years out like a king. God speed Tucker, you were a good friend!
I'm sorry for the loss of your hound. Looks like he was a great companion.

What's this "ya'll" stuff? Some blades you have posted certainly fall into enabler space.
Ha! Yes, I'm including myself as well. It's nice to be on the other side, you know peer pressure & all 🤣

The sak was also a birthday present arrived yesterday, I did get shown the tracking for my birthday😁
Happy belated Birthday!

Somewhere, some time ago, I threatened to dye this thing purple. I thought I was kidding but it turned out I weren't. My first dye job! I had many fears, but none which came to pass. I'm a happier camperer! 🏕️
Wow! That turned out great!!!

Today makes for a very special Friday Favorites. Today after 47 years, 7 months and 25 days on the same job I was told my services were no longer needed as part of a worldwide reduction in force and I’m officially unemployed for the first time since I was 15. And I couldn’t be happier. I was scheduled to retire in June and now I’m getting paid to retire 5 months early. It’s just now starting to sink in. I received a very satisfactory severance package as a parting gift. I was treated with the utmost dignity and respect which was greatly appreciated. Now I’m sitting around in my flannel PJs and ratty hoodie enjoying a nice Assam tea and reading a good book. People are always asking me what I plan to do when I retire. I’m not one that has an issue staying busy.
Congrats on the retirement!

I’m not one that has an issue staying busy. Here’s a short list:
  • Cook more often
  • Scan old photos
  • Start working on the Payne family genealogy
  • Spend more time with my babies
  • Help Mom with her garden
  • Volunteer at Pedal It Forward
  • Ride more
  • See things I hadn’t seen before more often
  • Finish my project bike and sell it and the last project that’s still hanging up in the basement
  • Sell a bunch of knives that I don’t like or carry
  • Worry less
  • Care more

Good stuff!!! I had a very similar plan/list. Then, I got into knives. Good news is: my list remains the same! Bad news: I've had to push it out about 5 years. 🤦‍♂️

Wow, I missed a few days & apparently a lot of stuff has been going on the porch since I've last been on.
I was doing some vehicle maintenance earlier today & had the bull hide #86 with me. I love the size & pinch-ability of this knife.

86 is looking good, glad you’re enjoying it! I have the M&G coco version and it’s one of my favorite patterns. Like you said, pinch-able and also a great blade/punch combo.

Oh definitely! I would like to get a Maher & Grosh version one day to go with it. The #86 is definitely one of my favorite GEC patterns as well.
Thanks again Patrick for letting me get this one off of you! 👍

Congratulations to your retirement. In the end, the workforce reduction was probably the best that could happen to you, considering that you get paid till your planned retirement without having to work anymore. Unfortunately, not a lot of companies care enough about their employees to provide a reasonable severance package.

I can completely understand how you feel, being in a similar situation. 2 years ago after being with the same company for 22 years they made me an offer I better not refuse. With a fair severance package. I had to work for another 2 years but was lucky to find a new job without issues. That time is now coming to an end for me as well with my retirement starting by end of February.

Enjoy the time with your family and friends.

Take care
