What "Traditional Knife" are ya totin' today?

Is lighter'd South Carolinian for worm holed firewood?
Jeff, It's a more of a southern U.S. term. It's also known up north & other parts of the country as fatwood, lighter knot, ect.
It's just the pitch/sap heavy remnants of a fallen tree that collect at the base. Mostly from old pines around here. It's the best natural kindling fire starter 👍

P.S. As you may know, once you get through the crispy exterior you get to the good stuff 😉

Beguiling Böker Barlow, José! :thumbsup::thumbsup::cool:
Is that part of their Beer Barrel series, with handles made from wood taken from old beer barrels?

I admire your commitment to that pair as daily carries! :cool::thumbsup::thumbsup:

Simple but distinctive knife, Bob, with the big spear, the shadow pattern, the EO notch, and the rich jigging. :thumbsup::cool::thumbsup:
Bone handle?

Tim & Bill, the pocket-wear and color of the jigged bone on your vintage Case knives makes them look like jewels! :cool::cool::thumbsup:

Jeff reacted to the recent midwestern warm-up quite differently than did Greg and @majorpain1, and I have to say I'm siding with the latter two gents on this one! ;):thumbsup:
Through the first 3 weeks of February (last Friday), we had only 3 days with high temp above freezing (and they were all in the first week of the month). Over that same period, we had only 3 days in which we didn't get any snow (sometimes only a "trace" and no day more than a quarter-inch). So I've had to shovel snow almost every day, and none of it was melting, so the pile onto which I threw the snow from my driveway just kept getting higher. Here's a photo I took last Thursday from the from corner of my garage farthest from the house toward the opposite corner of the driveway where it meets the alley at a corner of the back yard. Behind me in the photo, the garage of the neighbor whose driveway is next to ours is about 5 feet away, so there's almost no room for piling snow between the 2 driveways. So I end up shoving all of the snow from my driveway (which is about 20'x 30', divided down the middle both ways by "joints" in the cement) all the way across the driveway and the throwing it over the chainlink fence into the back yard. You can see that I have quite a pile down there.

In fact, even though I have refined my snow-throwing technique over the years, I'm getting to an age when I just can't get as much height or distance as I used to. And the pile has gotten to a size where I can't throw new snow over the top any more! You'll notice that right next to the fence I have space before the pile starts, but that's my insurance in case we get 8-12 inches some night that I have to put somewhere. I really count on getting periodic meltdowns to reduce the size of my snow pile faster than the I'm adding new snow. So that's why I'm ecstatic about a few days of temps in the 40s and 50s. Here's a shot of the snow pile from where I usually stand to throw all the moved snow over the fence. The fence is standard 48" height, but standing on the brick wall which is at least a foot tall, so I have to get my shovel up over 5 feet kind of quick to avoid hitting the fence!

GT, the first thing my dad did when my brother and I moved out was to buy a snow blower for the winter and a riding lawnmower summer. Don’t miss those days and is one of the reasons I love the Mediterranean weather in San Francisco!

I hope you get a break soon! 😲
Those are a couple of my favorite RR sheepsfoot patterns! :thumbsup::cool::cool:

Congrats on a couple more "new" vintage knives; you sure manage to hunt down some nice old specimens! :cool::thumbsup::cool:

Thanks, Lance. :) I've become pretty picky in my old age about what I like in a stockman, and I probably wouldn't have bought that square-bolstered 63032 if it weren't for the fact that I'll go for a Case chestnut jigged CV model whenever I get a chance.:rolleyes:

Speaking of which, that's a nice Case medium stockman you're carrying, Chris! :thumbsup::thumbsup::cool:
I think it's very similar to the one I have this week, right down to the blade rub scratches on the sheepsfoot. Yours might have a darker version of chestnut bone than my more "orangey" one; I tend to prefer your dark version.

Good luck in your Böker hunt, Lance! :cool::thumbsup::thumbsup:

Dynamic duo, Steve! :thumbsup::cool::thumbsup:

Your Navy utility knife is a treasure, Jeff! :cool::cool::thumbsup:

I hope you can shake whatever they figure out you have ASAP, Mike! :thumbsup:
Those lingering maladies can wear you down!

Superb little pen knives!! :thumbsup::cool::cool:
I think I currently have 3 of them; can't seem to resist them when I get a chance to get another.

Beautiful brace of knives, Bob! :cool::thumbsup::cool:

K'roo
Canoe.
Wahoo!
Brand New
4 U??
:thumbsup::thumbsup:🤓

Congrats on the new work knife! :cool::thumbsup::thumbsup:
IMHO, tough to beat a big sheepsfoot with a swayback handle!

Thanks, Chris. :)

Excellent knife indeed, Jer! :thumbsup::cool::thumbsup:
If I were going to order a Rosecraft knife, I'm pretty sure that's the model I'd go for.

Really nice fake stag on your whittler! :cool::cool::thumbsup:

Good to hear that you're seeing progress with the PT, Dan! :thumbsup::cool::cool:
Vibrant vintage Opinel!

Superb stockman! :cool::thumbsup::cool:

Thank you sir!

Bonus pic!

I think my carries are always inspired by other members awesome pics. It was @Jacques Mi that posted a pic of his M&G in the snow yesterday that made me want to carry mine today. Copying and inspired are two different things right? 😬

Those 86s with the sheep and punch are probably my favorite pattern. I will have one before I ride west!!!
