What "Traditional Knife" are ya totin' today?

Couldn't choose whether to carry wood or bone this morning. Decided that life is too short, so I'm carrying both.

They actually make a hell of a pairing. I've got spear, clip and coping blades, can and bottle openers, and a punch. Both wood and bone; both older and newer vintage. All made in USA, with not a bit of brass between them.

You know, it's easy to get down on life, to focus on all the bad. But these two knives somehow turn all of that around, and put a smile on my face.

Had a light shower earlier. I don't think it amounted to much, but every little bit helps.
Me and Howard are off to get a high intensity CT scan on my sinuses in a couple of hours👃🐽😤 I had a 15 year stretch where I never went to a doctor. Man, I miss those days 😏

It was about 10 years for me. Then down the rabbit hole we went🥺
But saying that we are still here🙃
Nice picture

Hey @5KQs/Professor Gary,

"were absolutely riveting, even if my style was not."

Riveting is the exact word I come up with imagining your public speakage.

My first awareness of gas prices was my Dad's enthusiasm over gas wars while filling the tank on the thirsty 390 in our Mercury Colony Park station wagon on one of our trips to the Ozarks. Not counting four or five family cars I first drove, the first one with my name on the title was a '72 Olds Delta 88 with 455 cu.inches of I'm thirsty. Great car. I think the guy I sold it to wanted it for demolition derbies.

Did you tie that sheetbend, or is it the cover photo?
Thanks, Jeff, but many of my students would probably use a different kind of tool to describe my speaking (boring instead of riveting).
Wow, you were cruising down the highway in style with an Olds 88! :cool:
That knot was the cover photo, but I didn't even recognize it as a sheet bend, even though that's one of my favorite (easy to tie) bends. I tie most of my knots in a 30" piece of bootlace, just for practice, so my sheet bend only has a single turn around the bight instead of going around twice before finishing the bend. But I was studying the cover photo when I returned the book to the library this afternoon, and I'm pretty sure that the knot shown is actually a figure 8 knot tied in a bight to form a secure loop in the middle of a rope.

That's a stockman of distinction IMHO, and I've admired it each time you've posted it recently! :thumbsup::thumbsup::cool:

It’s a beautiful day here in the City by the Bay! Lots of sunshine and a nice warm day. Not much on the agenda other than some college football games and the Giants game this evening. Keeping me company with a nod to Stag Saturday two that I hit the stag lottery on. Have a great weekend folks! 😀

Steve and Dan, those are both pairs of superb stag knives! :cool::thumbsup::thumbsup:

This is a really handsome knife, with splendid stag, and I love the tang corner covering bolster shape and overall smooth profile of the closed knife. What make and model is it? Spearpoint blade?

2008 Case Canoe. Super Tinker.

Kudos on the canoes, gents!! :thumbsup::cool::thumbsup:

That looks great!! :cool::cool::thumbsup:
DIY?

Splendid sowbelly stockman! :thumbsup::cool::cool:

75F and overcast here today. The weather map shows rain all around, just not here at the moment. The forecast has chance of rain later today, tonight and tomorrow. We could use a good soaking shower. August has been dry 🏜️

Cool Rosecraft lambsfoot, Mike! :cool::thumbsup::cool:
I recently got a Rosecraft with a lambsfoot on one end and a clip on the other, with beautiful gray bone covers (that look completely "blah" in every photo I take :rolleyes:).

Gorgeous knife with glorious bone and jigging! :thumbsup::cool:😲

Beautiful lineup. I think at your next knife show, you might keep an eye out for a jigged bone Camillus TL-29.
@Jakeywax31 kindly gave a USA issue engineer's knife to go with mine.

That's a pair beyond compare!! :thumbsup::thumbsup::cool:

The beginning of summer here in the City by the Bay! Well at least in my area of the City. I’ve always said if you’re going to San Francisco come in September and October when the fog goes away and be sure to wear some flowers in your hair 😜. Keeping me company today the Modoc Special and pinched peanut. Have a great day folks! 😀

Sounds like good advice, but I hear that summertime will be a love-in there! 🤓

Those canoes are just purdy!
Thanks; gotta agree with you! 🤓:thumbsup:

I always enjoy seeing this one, José; the handle shape and covers are fascinating to me! :cool::thumbsup::thumbsup:

Benji is magic, Jeff! :thumbsup::cool::thumbsup:

I don't always like "pale" stag, but your stag copperhead looks awesome! :cool::cool::thumbsup:

Magnificent pair of moose, David! :thumbsup::cool::cool:
I tend to prefer the size and shape of the one on the left, but I can't ignore the fact that the last 4 digits of the pattern number of the one on the right are my house number for the past 40 years. 🤓

Along about 2:30 AM we were awakened by a beeping alarm coming from the kitchen. Cindy went to investigate and found "Abby" the Hoarder sitting in front of the open door of the refrigerator.
Seems to me Abby should be locked in a cage at night might welcome the security of a crate she could sleep in when everyone else is sleeping. ;)

Just arrived, I*XL George Wostenholm Barlow in stag.

I was inspired by some other fine Porch dwellers and their efforts at a 2025 knife so I custom ordered that from Opinel. I may have another silly one headed this way...

Another one of my Camillus electrician’s knife finds that I rebuilt. It was badly rusted and pitted. I like to clean these up and put nice scales and bolsters on them when they are ugly. Show them they are still loved. I put some water buffalo horn on this one and polished it to a high gloss.

Posting from the Outer Banks of North Carolina today. The N.C. Recreational Flounder season started yesterday and runs thru the 14th, Mrs. Crappie and l fished a couple places for them today. Sadly we never caught any, but I’m holding out hope for tomorrow. Frontier Stockman today.

The obx is an amazing place to fish. If youre close to the sound look for feeder creeks on Google maps that flow from the sound to the ocean side. Flounder and specks stack up on the sound side of the creeks. And nice tote btw. Good luck!
