What "Traditional Knife" are ya totin' today?

Is that scout pattern a Camillus? It has gorgeous bone scales.

Yes it is. It’s a WW2 US Army engineer knife. Camillus literally made millions of them. I’d go as far as to say that they’re the cheapest and easiest way to get into a truly vintage traditional with nice bone covers. They can be found easily on the secondary market, often unused.

Sticking with the ironwood Barlow today.

There are some days where a certain knife inextricably feels “right”. Maybe it’s the patina on the blades, or possibly the wood covers. Perhaps it’s the hefty weight added by the longer bolsters and steel liners. Maybe today is just the day for long pulls, swedges and gracefully sweeping clips. But today is definitely an ironwood Barlow day.

Is this one of the newer made IXLs? Curious to hear your thoughts on it.

Stag/Horn Knife of the Week is a Colt stag muskrat that I rate as a Top Ten knife in this category:

Work Knife of the Week is a Watchman anchor knife (Top Ten work knife for me):

I did not know Watchman made an anchor pattern. One of my favorite early pickups was a zulu knife from them, it's really nice. It had particularly good action.

For me it was the 42 in the pocket today, with Charlie's lamb riding along. Used it on some steak the other night and that really darkened things up. 1000020783.jpg

I've had these two in the pockets for the past couple days. The wide spear blade Schatt & Morgan is thinly ground and slices like a pro. The saw cut bone handled Russell Barlow was a gift from my son in law a few years ago, a very tightly built knife and an excellent Barlow IMO. Golfed with that son in law yesterday, and had a very enjoyable day.
