What "Traditional Knife" are ya totin' today?

I’m carrying the Pony Jack today. I just got the boat hooked up and will be heading out in the morning; most likely I’ll be carrying the Pioneer X tomorrow.

The Pioneer X sounds like a good choice for hunting fish. The scissors will no doubt come in handy for trimming line when changing lures. 👍
I hope you catch enough keepers for a family reunion fish fry. 😇👍

Mr B. - I have a similar Camillus (not quite as nice) that lacks a shield and has brass liners, not steel. I picked it up on the big auction site from a seller in Poland, of all places.

You seem to know a good bit about this pattern, any thoughts on provenance?

The Camillus 14/4 (14 frame pattern with 4 blades/tools) scout, such as yours, is a pretty old knife. I’m not sure exactly when it began production, maybe 1920’s or 1930’s. It was a popular knife to make under contract for a number of companies such as Sears, and was also sold under the Camillus name. It evolved over the years, in terms of bail, can opener, awl, and tang stamp, to where Camillus made a model like yours in maybe the late 1930’s and early 1940’s. Then WW2 happened, and all the shield variations began, and it lost the brass liners for a few years. Then after the war, your model went back into production briefly, before being replaced with a synthetic cover model. You can tell a bit more about the age via the tang stamp.

I'm totin a ten dot 1970 Case XX Slim Trapper, and a nice Kutmaster Stockman that was a gift from Lance. I guess this is a jigged Delrin Day.
I like going outside with a cup of coffee in the morning just after sunrise when the light is right and taking knife photos. Sometimes I pick one or two, but sometimes I can't decide...
