What "Traditional Knife" are ya totin' today?

We've been having 50 mph wind gusts since yesterday afternoon, and the power finally went out a couple hours ago. I'm surprised that it stayed on that long.

We dealt with those winds from Sunday evening until last night. Currently still strong enough winds to shake the trees.
Hopefully your power is back on soon.

We have a whole house generator, so it's not a big deal. Power outages aren't that uncommon around here, so most homes have at least a portable genny, and more are going the whole house generator route.

Thanks, Bob. :)
Flexcut makes several types of folding knives for wood carving, containing from 1 up to 6 different types of blades/tools IIRC. Their most sophisticated models come in right and left handed versions. They also make a zillion fixed blade carving tools. I liked the idea of having a good whittling knife on which I could close the blade(s) and carry it in my pocket, and I used to do quite a bit of whittling while waiting at bus stops. But I stopped riding the bus during COVID and have not yet got back to it, so I haven't done much whittling for over 5 years either.

(Back when I did more whittling, I discovered that for the not-very-advanced skills I had, I was most successful using the pen blade on a SAK as my main whittling blade. Here's a photo of some of my early whittling "exercises", and although a Case Peanut is in the photo, most of the actual whittling was done by the pen blade on a Vic Tinker.)

Whittlin'... just plain whittlin' - seems to be a lost art these days. And yes, I really am guilty of contributing to the demise of the art too. No worries, I'm getting back to it a bit now. Nice 'nut. Nice sticks.

Understand. They are common in my area so we too have a house generator.

I enjoyed whittling when I was doing it frequently, even if I was just working on little "practice sticks" to "refine" my techniques. I should get an old bedsheet to put on the basement floor as a drop cloth, set a folding chair in the middle of it, and try to find 30 minutes a day to whittle in the winter time.
The little screwdriver in the photo is probably my best attempt at whittling a model of a "real object". I was very pleased with how that turned out. (Except I tried to make the tip of the screwdriver blade too thin, and the heartwood of the stick fell out of the tip, making it look more like a seam ripper than a screwdriver. o_O

In my youth, I played various card games quite often, and people would always say, "Cut thin to win."
Your grape slicing reminded me of that; you must be a BIG winner! 🤓

A few years ago I realized that I had a very hard time starting our portable generator so we installed a whole house generator and have never regretted it . We normally have a few outages a year but now do not have to worry about it . We did have to have the natural gas meter increased in size though .

Another sunny day here in the City by the Bay! Have to enjoy it while we can as rain is coming in for the new year over the next several days. Heading across the City to pick up some meds at the Kaiser French Campus. Of course repaving work on 19th Avenue which is the main thoroughfare for going north and south on the western side of the City. So it could be a bit longer than usual. Anyway keeping me company the #88 which is the best of both worlds. Have a great day folks! 😀
