The 881 is simply a great knife. And you've got a fine example, Jeff.
Usually I post in this thread soon after my breakfast and other parts of my daily routine (morning prayer and Bible study, dog medicating and feeding, reading some news online, and doing a couple of NYT games/puzzles). Today I had my annual wellness visit for Medicare and had to leave the house a couple hours earlier than I usually do in my retired state. My wife dropped me off at the doctor at 8:50am and I didn't get out until after 10:30 (although they did spend some time cleaning an amazing amount of wax out of my right ear that's been totally stopped up for two weeks). Then I walked 1.5 miles to the gym and did my usual Thursday hour of basketball and about 40 minutes of "strength training". Then I went to talk with a former colleague in his office for about an hour, and then I walked home (almost an hour). So I'm doing this after supper instead of after breakfast. Feels weird.

Locking Knife of the Week is a modded Opinel No.8 (thanks, Dave):

Good size Carp!
Did you clean, gut, fillet, & put in the smoker? Smoked Carp is wonderful.
Last time I saw smoke Carp at the grocer's you could buy a one pound T Bone steak for only just $7.⁵⁹. A pound of smoked Carp was $16.⁹⁹. 🤯 (I ain't seen Smoked Carp sence leaving KS back in 19 and 95 ... I r pretty sure both cost considerably more now-a-days. 😭)
I let this guy live another day. Its a native species called a Smallmouth Buffalo. They have a slow growth rate, and this guy is likely 70-90+ years old.

I was around 10 on a lake Erie trip with my dad when I had my first piece of smoked carp. At the time, it was a life changing experience. If people knew how good it is, carp would be on the endangered species list!

just missed breaking the State Record for Smallmouth Buffalo by 3 Lbs!!!
That’s an awesome smallmouth buffalo. I have landed an only a few of them and they pull like a tugboat. There is a beautiful park about 30mi north of Dallas called LLELA (Lewisville Lake Environmental Learning Area) that is a wonderful place to fish. It’s below a dam on the Elm Fork of the Trinity River and is target rich for carp, buffalo and bass and panfish galore. Last time we went out with fly rods my buddy Greg caught a nice buffalo on a 4wt that took half an hour to land. Glorious to have an urban wilderness area this pretty so close to home.IMG_8519.jpeg

Last day of the Heat Advisory for the City should start cooling down by tonight and I wouldn’t be surprised if the fog rolls in overnight. In the meantime keeping me company with a nod to Black Friday two ebony beauties. Have a great day folks! 😀
