Holes in the ceiling of the gateway so castle occupants can defend against attackers from above by shootings arrows, dropping rocks or fire or pouring boiling oil or other liquids down on them as they try to get the portcullis open.
Usually I post in this thread soon after my breakfast and other parts of my daily routine (morning prayer and Bible study, dog medicating and feeding, reading some news online, and doing a couple of NYT games/puzzles). Today I had my annual wellness visit for Medicare and had to leave the house a couple hours earlier than I usually do in my retired state. My wife dropped me off at the doctor at 8:50am and I didn't get out until after 10:30 (although they did spend some time cleaning an amazing amount of wax out of my right ear that's been totally stopped up for two weeks). Then I walked 1.5 miles to the gym and did my usual Thursday hour of basketball and about 40 minutes of "strength training". Then I went to talk with a former colleague in his office for about an hour, and then I walked home (almost an hour). So I'm doing this after supper instead of after breakfast. Feels weird.
