I had a very pleasant experience today. The washing machine repairman was scheduled to arrive between 11 A.M. and 1 P.M. He called at 9:30 and said he was twenty minutes away. When's the last time any type of service person showed up early? Nice guy. He fixed it and I'm currently on my second load of laundry. Plans to become a nudist are tabled

A small Frenchman today.

Going south for a couple of weeks. We have company, a lot of friends who like to cook so this needs some gear. The bag is of heavy cotton canvas, can be rolled and made it myself. The Opinel in the second picture I lost in the same area years ago, so another is coming with me, hopefully better luck this time (I made the pocket sheath to prevent loss). Overkill? Often the kitchen cutlery in rented houses is butterknife dull and all of these have a purpose.

Back home, had an excellent trip. These two were the most used knives and it shows. Some cleaning might be good idea. I guess they experienced some "heavy use" in their role. One thing I learned is that some people just can't understand that carbon steel knives need more care, so they are not those that you loan. I love these knives, but for the next trip I will get stainless steel. Anyway they shined in use, excellent tools both. I guessed that the knives at the house we rented would be butterknife dull and I was right, I even sharpened one of them to a serviceable edge. If you make food for 11 people good cutting tools are a must.
