What "Traditional Knife" are ya totin' today?

Thanks! I find that it's hard to take a bad pic of that knife. :thumb up:

Thanks Smithhammer, Todd did a bang up job on that Wharrny and I was lucky to stumble into it..

Love that fixed blade wharncliffe, Paul!

Love the beer drinking emoticons, if I were nearby we could go have a pint...(or two) ;):D

Today is my Big Nut, I have a nice stag peanut on order, the kind with the slanted threaded bolsters, one arrived but the main blade had side to side play, not a lot, probably fixable, but for a peanut that costs that much, I'd not expect blade play on arrival, sent her back to exchange, hopefully they can check the new one before sending her out today, in the mean time, this little rascal, 4 blades and scissors all are tight and still are;

I had put a brushed finish on the bolsters, evens out the glossy look ;) and easier to maintain too

Can you expand on the brushing? Very cool knife.

Thanks Jack! :)

Happy St. Patricks Day to those who celebrate it :) - enjoy your day!!

Gary - that´s a mighty fine looking 'nut. Do you have a pic with all tools opened?

Thanks sir, just took a quick at the table pic, hobbled so not able to get around as well, AND, it's SCARY to be opening all these blades at one time, as they are SHARP :) That's all I need is to slit my fingers open ;)

and thanks Woodrow, the brushing effect is done using VERY fine sand paper, 1000 grit and then 2k, just a thumb size piece, sometimes I'll put tape over the scales so as not to scuff those up, and then place the sand paper on the bolster and press with my thumb and move it forward in one direction only, so you do NOT move back and forth, just in one direction. Of course if the bolsters are very nicked up, you may want to get the nicks worked down first and then on the final finish, do the singular strokes away from the covers. I make it so the lines are in line with the length of the handle, so when you put the knife in a sheath, any abrasions will blend in with the way you put the finish on the bolsters.

Edited to add, just touched up these bolsters just now, method is;
I hold the sand paper in my right hand
place it on the bolster
Hold the knife in my left hand
place my thumb on the sand paper and as I pull the sand paper with my right hand, I'm applying downward and forward pressure with my left thumb, working in time with my right hand to pull the paper in a straight line.

Excellent. I could see me doing this with SS blades too. :hmm:

Today I'm totin' my Case Barlow that I picked up from an antique store a week or two ago. Cleaned it up a bit, salvaged one of the blades, and threw into my rotation.

Thanks :) Great-looking knife (and a bit of history). Here's mine from the same series

Thanks buddy and yeah, that IXL lockback is gorgeous!!!!! :thumbup: :thumbup:

I had a store display of those IXL's back in '83...I stupidly sold it......cheap. :mad:

Each one of them is a heck of a knife - but together - they are such a great combination

GEC #66 Serpentine Jack and Vic Pioneer :)

... maybe this THE combo for me...

Great pair Andi!!!! I kinda like the lines of that 66 too! :)

Thanks for the pics, Gary - an impressive big Peanut ... seems to be a pretty unique version of it.

SAK Guy: the #66 is my favorite knife by far. I have a lot of knives, but this is the one I always return to and carry it for a period of time. Then it gets cleaned & oiled and taking a rest for some time in the drawer - until gets back to light of day ;)

Going green today :D

WOW Brian, I do like that!!! With Irish blood coursing through my veins that's a must have right there :thumbup::thumbup::thumbup:

I had a coupla Vic Classics I gave to my Dad and Co-Worker that had the shamrock on them but they pale in comparison to that beauty ;)

Very Nice!!!

Heading over to ABS Master Smith Jon Christensen's for dinner and stay the night so we can have a long day of forging feather bamboo damascus. Carrying these two and a pic of the damascus we will be forging.

(sadly, this piece was left in the cab of Jon's truck and the hand carved ivory warped,:barf:)
