Böker Germany, Whittler in carbon with Apaloosa Bone, very decent quality on these, fine snap - a nice compact three blade traditional.

I think Böker's carbon knives merit more attention, they're very good value and are decently turned out, a neglected Gem!

Lovely knife, that. I have a Boker Beer Barrel Whittler (mine's more alliterative) that I like very much, for the reasons you mention. The bone on yours is stunning.

I'm glad, all over again, that you learned to post pictures. :)

Ran out of apples, but have plenty of guitars. ;)

Great shot! O'course now I want to see more of the guitar, but that's another forum. ;)

Nice stuff guys. this old Schrade red bone whittler or as Schrade called it the Mechanics knife has been taking care of most tasks this weekend.

In-teresting. I have one that I've been calling a whittler all along, that looks just like that. I think? Is an 804 (stamped on the back of the main blade)? I like the sound of "Mechanics Knife." :-)

My Farmer's Jack, again today:

I'll likely add a fixed blade towards evening, for sticks n' stuff if I sit out by the fire.

Finally, a toad in honor of Pipeman and his tree frog:

(T'was a wee thing that surprised my wee dog when we were out in the woods together this morning. Dog & Toad are NOT friends; I was thankful to woo my dog away before things became, er, uncomfortable for the tiny toad....)

That Spanish sodbuster is a interesting knife, who's the maker

Thanks, monstrum. That's a "navaja de campana" by JJ Martinez. I like the knife very much (although I asked for carbon, and it turned out to be stainless). A couple of Spanish BF members recommended JJ Martinez, as did some knife shop personnel when I made it to Spain. The same "advisors" warned me not to confuse JJ Martinez (good) with Martinez Albainox (not so good).

Sarah You are really kind! I may have learned how to post pix but I know very little about taking them, some just manage to turn out sort of acceptable. The Böker has unusual Bone, pile side is quite different showing some whitish streaks. But then, the horse itself has irregular and beautiful colouration I believe.

I'm glad you show that White Bone Creek but I rage at my pauper's condition that I couldn't get one too:eek::mad::D Seriously, that bone holds much potential. I have an Almond Bone Tidioute 73 Beaver Tail from 07 which I don't really use. I like it as an ornament on my desk, polish it from time to time with a micro-cloth and it's mellowed to a rich cream colour, really nice as I say as an ornament! Yours is a user and that's to be commended.

PS Toads are very cool customers, much maligned by people unfortunately. Toads here in Europe have some kind of unpleasant liquid in their warts which can act as a deterrent to predators, so your dog had the lucky escape. George Orwell wrote a really good short essay on The Common Toad, worth a read!

Thanks, Will

Like Sarah, I'd think Whittler as well, but I can only assume the dual clips, sans pen blade, aren't quite a typical Whittler.

Yes Sarah it is the very same make and model. 804 with jigged redbone scales. I commented on yours in the 38 special thread. It is pretty obviously a serpentine whittler, but the dealer who I ordered it from said that Schrade marketed it as the Mechanics Knife. Perhaps referring to the utilitarian coping blade? I haven't done my own research on this so perhaps the fellow was mistaken, though I might give him the benefit of the doubt.

Nice knives and pictures today everyone:thumbup:

Carried my #38 ebony Whittler today when I found an extra cedar spindle under the deck I built a few years back and thought I'd try and carve a Viking like figure in it:o

Note to shelf: learn how to carve:D

Well, at least you have the right tool for the job, Paul!! :D:thumbup:
The actual product looks a lot better than some of my whittling. I can tell it's a person. :p For me, what the final result looks like isn't as important as the relaxing time I spend on carving it.
