Nice Dave, what's that you have in the pic (besides the Eric's Jack!)? :D
Thanks Jack, it is a Jewell Trigger. After posting it I realized it may not have looked good in the foreground but I love all things mechanical. Watches, cameras, optics, etc. Arnold Jewell had a little shop in San Marcos Texas and got the idea for his trigger by watching how the landing gear of airplanes worked. http://singleactions.proboards.com/thread/11487/building-benchrest-rifle?page=9

As others have pointed out (in a much more timely fashion), that's a FINE Eric's Jack you have there, Dave!:thumbup:
- GT
Thanks GT, I have been admiring all of your new additions also.

Ryan and Paul - Gevo has picked me as the winner of our 73 patina contest. :D

Please ship your 73's to me ASAP thank you. That was the deal!

:D:D

Mark, you really do win the patina contest, great looking 73, amazing stag on that one.

It is so funny that earlier today I took a picture of my 73 and when I had a chance to log in to the Traditional forum I found so many others here with the same idea of carrying theirs. So many beautiful stag knives today.

Mark (clutchcarter) - Wow, that is a beautiful beast, guess you have the only one in the USA.

Bleh - Great stag on your Bladeforums knife

Jeff - Super nice fighting Rooster Eureeka Jack, more beautiful stag

r8shell - That is a wonderful gift from mike Berkovitch

Philllll - Another amazing pair, I really love that old pruner, beautiful stag

Ryan - You hit the jackpot on your 73, Arkansas looks beautiful, congrats on your new property

Harry - really nice looking Russell, 73 and Squire Elijah Oates

Been carrying the Cold Steel KUDU today. It's one of my favorite pocket knives to carry around outside the house, especially at night and out with the dogs. The KUDU's size fits my comfort level in the darkness and it's light so it carries really easy.
BUT ... I've had this Marble's Mini Trapper in my hands off and on ALL.DAY.LONG. It came with terrible bevels and I've been reprofiling the edge with an Extra Coarse Diamond hone, on the Lansky. DANG D2 !!! I have a ways to go yet with the Extra Coarse and the rest SHOULD go pretty quickly. I MAY never buy another D2 steel knife. D2 is no joke. Not the better steel out there but dang it's tough. Maybe time to think about a new sharpening system I guess. This Lansky set has been with me since the late 1970s.

Dave, I can't fault your picking Mark for having the best patina as it goes so well with the Stag...now Ryan and I being on polar opposite ends of this great nation have taken a slightly different approach than say our brother Mark. Earned comes to mind...Ryan, back me up here brother:D

Now Mark your older brother Paul (by ONLY one year) & our younger sibling Ryan are not callin you out one bit on your patina achievement...we'd NEVER do that;):p

Dave my friend, your Stag #73 is a stunner my friend, beautiful knife and picture. Now the decision will have to be made on how to achieve a "real" patina or another route;):D

Disclaimer: the above statement was made in jest and DIRECTLY towards my brother from another mother Mark:p

With all do respect my Brother Paul, that is earned patina. I use the knife for lunch, cooking and eating dinner.

I guess we will have to settle this the old fashioned way....... Arm Wrestling! :D You guys can send me your knives now or after you lose that contest too.

Your choice :D:D

You guys are too competitive for me haha. I didn't know how serious this was:foot:  (If I look real hard through a magnifying glass I can see the start a a patina going on mine :o) All things considered (thanks Paul) it really is hard for me to pick a winner:confused:. I am glad Gevonovich is the judge.:D

Brett, I meant to tell you what a great looking 73 and photo you have there but my laptop keeps freezing and I lost my original post after the hard reboot :o:D

I am sensing an overload of OMS, so I may call in sick and just send my knife off:eek::D Although I do love to arm wrestle;)

Thanks Paul :)

Hi Brother Jim.

Try clamping your blade in the middle so that you can get even pressure on the entire edge if that makes sense. If your diamonds are still cutting good, D2 isn't that bad to re-profile.

I have a DMT system and have no problems with just using the course diamond stone to re-profile. I just have to wash it in water frequently to get rid of the metal powder.

Thanks Mark !!! I've had my eye on the DMT system. It looks really nice for the price point and the video demos look promising too.

There are variables in sharpening, even if two or more people use the same system ... skill, technique, patience and not least of which is condition of equipment. I think I've gotten the best of this Lansky system. It's old and worn. You may be able to see the years of wear on the clamp slots. The rods and hones are just as old. 35-40 years is a good run and it's time to update/upgrade.

While certainly not anywhere near perfect, I've just about gotten the edge down to usable and serviceable. It'll be in my pocket within the hour.

EDIT: I think everyone needs a Sharpmaker, LastRodeo !!! Seems to be a popular option with a lot of folks.

Today: Northwoods Broadway Jack.

I always thought that I'll like the one with the blue covers better ... but now I'm always carrying the black one ...
