Headed over to Sheffield again tomorrow, another early start. Going to be taking these two with me

I've been away to the deer camp scouting around for the past few days. All I can say is WOW!!! All the pictures, all the great knives. Spectacular everyone!!!

Once I got back I carried this one today.

The knife is a 62032 SS Medium Jack (same thing as the Small Texas Jack) in Sunset Winterbottom Bone that I dyed to a darker chestnut color, because the dye-job on it wasn't quite what I was expecting based on the catalog pics.

Since I'm carrying it again today, here's a different pic of it. Same knife, same day as the first pic, just this one in direct sunlight.

For comparison, this is the "before" pic:

I was wondering what you used to do this dye job and explain your process also??? PM would be fine or I think you could email also.

Too busy to check this thread for a couple of days, so I scrolled through at warp speed trying to catch up this evening.

Thank you Gary! Yes, it's an old cultivator seat stool that we have had for 40+ years. It's color, condition and symmetry make it very appealing for a background!

Nice choices today!!!! Still loving that homemade pouch of yours!! :)
Thanks for the background info, and for the compliment. :)

A big holiday today in Germany - National Holiday "Tag der Deutschen Einheit" - "Day of German Unity". It is celebrated since 1990 when the GDR existed no longer and we became one country.

Friedrich Hartkopf with this amazing stag is in my pocket today

There was a thread a couple of years ago about dyeing bone, which I followed. Here's a link to my post in that thread:

http://www.bladeforums.com/forums/s...yeing-Bone-A-Tutorial?p=12208999#post12208999

It's worth reading the whole thread if you are interested.

The darker lines in the jigging grooves were from using a fine tip black sharpie. Submerged dyeing results in a relatively uniform color so I used that to give it some highlights. It is more or less permanent, since dark permanent marker will absorb into bone.

I actually have two of those Sunset Winterbottom Medium Jacks due to an accidental double-order - they had just been discontinued and I was afraid of missing out on the dwinding stock. I had ordered from one vendor and it never shipped, so thinking it was out of stock I ordered a second one from a different vendor. Then the first one showed up too.

I left the better looking of the two untouched, and used the other for the dye job. I really love the way it turned out. It's a one-of-a-kind custom. I am sure it ruins the collector resale value, but I did it for myself.

Edit:

To stay on topic - I didn't actually carry a pocket knife today since I didn't get out, but yesterday I had the Canal Street Eric's Jack with me again, as well as a Case Sod Buster Jr. in Amber Bone SS.

dispatch184 - Thank you! Like it?! I absolutely love this beauty!!! I'm unaware if you've notice or not, but I've posted this baby three or four days in a row..... and probably got two or three more days left. Now that says a lot! :) :D

Thank you kindly, Primble! I had to include some bark from this magnificent American sycamore ( Platanus occidentalis ) down the street. I just love those trees:D
