What "Traditional Knife" are ya totin' today?

IMG_2189.jpg~original
.
I've always thought this photo was inspired (and maybe even inspiring)!

Thank you!

The day the knife was due to arrive, I ran out and bought Twizzlers and-- excited about the incoming cutlery and suddenly-imagined photo op-- entirely forgot to buy cat food, thus risking a feline mutiny.

In the service of Art, of course.

:D

(It's one of my favorite photographs of all, and yes, everyone will undoubtedly see it again.)

Going by the sheepsfoot peeking out from behind the clip, I'm guessing it's a GEC #66 Calf Roper stockman.

Funny thing being, if so? I'm carrying the same pattern today as well. I'm admiring this 3.5" knife's compact, comfortable blade selection all over again!

I'd hoped to get a picture of this one with my other pocket's knife, a #25 in blue camel bone (caption: Red, Cold, and Blue), but the light and I failed each other.

Here they are separately, in pictures taken previously.

(Sheepsfoot lowered slightly by lightly filing its kick; I lowered it a little more soon after taking the picture.)

Perfect photo

Great carries today everyone and the photography is outstanding!
Just finished this barlow and it is my first attempt at hollow grinding. Hope you like it and I will be making more to sell when I upgrade to knife maker/service provider.
My photography skills need some work. :o

I don't think we can see too much of this can we?? Mark what a gorgeous piece of cutlery. Those bolsters are the neatest I have seen. I cannot wait to support your upgraded status soon!

Gary - Your Case Ebonies are both superb knives.

Primble - Nice Schrades there buddy  The Farmers Jack takes the Blue Ribbon today!:D:thumbup:

Mark - Good to see you buddy! That Barlow is 1st class, a beautiful knife.

David, that Dunn is something special man! I'm glad to see the final product after you told me about the project months ago. Very cool!!

Thanks Jake (and others, for the kind words on the Dunn). As I said, I haven't given it any use or pocket-time yet...but that day will come soon enough :)

Drew, I appreciate your kind words my friend.

Mark - Good to see you buddy! That Barlow is 1st class, a beautiful knife.

Ron, Thank you so much buddy! Trying to get back into the swing of things.

Thanks GT. It certainly is a change of pace. The specs say it's 2.5" closed, but it feels even smaller. Here's a comparison shot with a 15 for reference, and a Case Eisenhower.

You have some nice choices this week too. That Joker looks very comfortable, and who doesn't like the SBJ? :)
Thanks, Mike. :) Thanks for the comparison pic; seeing your little pen next to the Eisenhower really illustrates how small it is!

...
I'm always glad to see the Joker and SBJ!
The swayback is getting quite a bit of character. I like it.
Thanks, SSS. :)

Old Bone Week continues

Great pics of your Boker and Keen Kutter, Rachel! (I've been living "Old Bones Week" for the past dozen years, at least! :o)

Haven't brought this one out for a bit - needed to maintain the handles, so here we are (mammoth ivory & 4.5 billion year old Gibeon Meteorite as the shield):

W:eek:W, David!!!!

Is that a George Wostenholm? I think I bought a beat up version at the weekend.

That's a sublime MOP pen, wbc85! :cool::cool:

...
Having a change today, I haven't carried this 4-line Camillus in a while...

Nor this TL-29 :)

Couple of cool Camilli, Jack! Their basic shapes look quite similar; are they actually built using the same frame?

My goodness, Primble, the warm feeling those knives generate ought to melt the snow away!!;)

Nice photo! Pittsburgh??? ;)

Snow day! :)

Cool photo, Tom! Is that one of the special edition Pioneers?

Thanks again for the comments GT and Primble. ...
I chose these two today. A Case Eisenhower and a Vic Secretary.

Sophisticated, yet simple, splendor in your pocket today, Ron!!

My kitchen knives this week are a Cudeman from Toledo, Spain

and a Colt buckshot bone teardrop jack (GREAT knife, in my opinion)

Thanks again for the comments GT and Primble. Exceptional knives again today Primble.

Thanks for the pile side pictures of that spectacular mammoth John.

Very nice pair of knives Tom S.

I chose these two today. A Case Eisenhower and a Vic Secretary.

Ken K.

Thank you Ken. The Vic and Case look splendid together !!:)

Great-looking ebony gents

Thank you Mr. Jack. That Camillus you carried today is a fine one !:)

Rob, all three of your Schrade's today are great looking, but the Farmer's Jack is particularly nice. The bone is such a deep color and so nicely jigged!

Thank you Dean ! Did you sneak that soup in your pocket today ?:confused::D

You're doing it again.... :D

(As remarked upon before: what a fine form factor, the lines, the shield.)

I do not know its forebear(s), only that GEC has alternately called it a Short Run/"Saints"/Fleur-de-lis shield, possibly now settling on the last. It's my favorite of their shield offerings so far, and the reason I opted for this particular Red knife.

I especially like how it tapers instead of being a uniform width. :)

~ P.

Thank you Sarah !:) I wish that GEC would use that shield more often - I think I like it best on your twizzler red knife ! ;):D

Primble - Nice Schrades there buddy  The Farmers Jack takes the Blue Ribbon today!:D:thumbup:umbup:

Do you need my address for my ribbon ?:D:D:D An old red Case always trips my trigger !:D

GT - thank you for the kind words !

Marko - fine blade on that beast !

Thales - wonderful piece !

Gary - Thank you my fiend! That Cudeman looks like a great knife and could tackle many chores inside or outside the house.

I agree Paul, Mark is making some beautiful stuff. Great looking blade with alot of character to boot.

How do you maintain mammoth David? I'd love to know for my elephant ivory/mammoth pieces. Beautiful Zulu Spear by Dunn

Here's what I had today

So hateful. Browser crashed and the forum auto-save nuked an hour's worth of comments. I've greatly trimmed this response down, sorry for those I missed (I probably typed an answer 1-2 times already but computer gremlins are hungry critters :D).

Carrying these two today :)

Loving that Boker every time it makes an appearance. The jigging pattern reminds me of the carvings on my cocobolo Westmark trapper.

Tsarbomba - a nice mix of foreigners and homelanders ! ;):D

Thank you! I am nothing if not multicultural. :p

New here, but I've lurked for a few months. Carrying the little Esquire today.

Welcome to the porch, and thanks for sharing!

I had a difficult time choosing, so went with three.

That's always how it is for me as well. :p The star of the show might be little orange sheeps-nut, what's its story?

That TL-29 is one of my favorite knives; I think it looks incredibly distinguished. (But until I get better at sharpening, I don't want to risk messing up it's full but dull blade.)

More of this week's carries for me include:
a Joker with asta autentica handles, from Toledo, Spain
a Swayback Jack (thanks, Paul)
a clip/pen Imperial Toothpick (thanks, Dave)
and a Rough Rider work knife[/img]

If you want to hone your sharpening skills (no pun intended :P) without risking your EDC linesman knife, I can probably scare up an honest-to-goodness Camillus (may not be badged Camillus proper but it will have been manufactured there) for you to practice on. PM me if you'd like.

Two great looking barlows you've got there.
The swayback is getting quite a bit of character. I like it.

Thank you, the Sabre's thin(ner) Japanese steel and previous owner's neglect aren't often seen on more "premium" knives but that bone always gives it an air of class, especially for such a big knife.

I also got my first SBJ, a limited Case in marigold bone, after such a long while of ogling the pattern and wishing I had a nice one. I think that mission is accomplished. :D

Old Bone Week continues

Such a kleen Keen Kutter, and with a secondary Wharnie? Jealousy is an ugly emotion, even over such a pretty knife.:grumpy:

Haven't brought this one out for a bit - needed to maintain the handles, so here we are (mammoth ivory & 4.5 billion year old Gibeon Meteorite as the shield):

An absolute work of art! How does one source meteorite, though?

Having a change today, I haven't carried this 4-line Camillus in a while...

Your Camillus might be a distant relation to my little Boker and his big Pal.

Double Russ

Barehead Wharnie Russlock? Do want!

A Schrade day on this snowy January morning:

That Barlow is beautiful. But what's up with that hawkbill? Such an interesting blade selection.

A favorite I've posted before, the 2009 Queen/Schatt Morgan BFC Barlow.

Full-size secondary Wharnie? All these beautiful and unique Barlows tonight!:thumbup::thumbup:

Great carries today everyone and the photography is outstanding!
Just finished this barlow and it is my first attempt at hollow grinding. Hope you like it and I will be making more to sell when I upgrade to knife maker/service provider.
My photography skills need some work. :o

That's okay, because your fabrication skills are outstanding! :thumbup:

If you're planning on putting some flat grinds on those spearpoints you mentioned in this thread then I think I may have found my first custom Barlow, once you're all settled. PM me when you've "set up shop". ;)

TsarBomba, I missed this when you posted it and just now noticed it. Great Barlows! Any chance we could see them open?

I'd posted a few photos of the Wingen opened up but searching the old ones made me realize I've neglected the Sabre. To that end, while I was taking snapshots of the new arrivals, I took some snapshots of these two. Excuse the crappy lighting.

Sarah, ya got me thinkin'... but I can't decide. Which one tomorrow? ;)

I think you need a bigger spey blade. ;):p

Today's (well, now yesterday's :p) carry:

Welcome back, Paul! Hope to see photos of some of your fine knives, but maybe a photo now and then showing the current status of that handsome lad of yours!

- GT

:) Thanks pal, I shall post some in the lounge so as to keep this thread pure :D
