What "Traditional Knife" are ya totin' today?

Hey fellas, I'm fairly new to the traditional side of the knife world. I have been lurking around for a month or so now and have met many fine gentleman. ALL of which have been more than willing to take the time and teach me a few things.. it shows what kind of community this is. But anyways, just wanted to say thanks, and introduce myself. I'm hoping to hang around for a while!!

P.s. I'm totin my bull nose with OD green micarta today..

The classic bull nose, I often wish I still had mine.

Love that stockman Primble :)

Forum knife for me today.

Very nice

I just knew we were going to get to see the good side of that knife ! It is a beauty Will.

The best of the best, that first run TC Spearpoint !

A different set of redbones in my pocket today - a mini copperhead and the stainless stockman, both from the 1970's with double pinned shields:
sgsazb.jpg

Sorry about my looong fingers and iPhone reflecting in the front bolster. :D:D:D

Come on now Primble I'm a GEC addict don't get me started on Case too.

Here is me today with my first 73 that finally arrived through the winter storm

All these scratted ancients!:thumbup: Rapidly becoming my favorite of the GEC Barlow line.

I swear, when they ask me why I filed for bankruptcy I'm going to blame it all on BF. :p :D

Dean
Your Appauloosa barlow is a real staillion:thumbup:

Dean, Beautiful Barlow

Very nice ApPAULoosa Dean !:D

Thank you Gev, Jack and Rob. It's doubly nice for me because it was a gift from a generous BF icon.

I am loving the Case Barlow resurgence as of late. :p:D:thumbup:

I agree. There are some fantastic ones being shown on the forum here.

I ended up with a Taylor-made Schrade #804 "anniversary" splitback whittler, and while Taylor's issues are well-documented around here it is overall a pretty nice knife. Pretty jigged bone, reasonably flush springs, good snap, humane pull, just a nice medium whittler overall. I don't know how great an edge the steel will take but I'm definitely warming to the knife. I might even keep it around for a while.

You're right, it is a pretty nice knife :) As are those lovely Barlows!

Congratulations on the 73 Jeff. Those Ancients really are something aren't they? :)

Alright Jack and Rob, let's see if this works!

Looking good Jake

Only fish you caught when ice fishing eh? :D Nice Davison Jake

Getting wistful that I'd been around for that forum knife. My affinity for teardrops has been growing, yet I still don't have one. Soon, soon. :D Beautiful example!

After a lot of deliberation, I finally settled on some 35-40+ year old wood for today's carry. I nearly went Barlow-less, but in the end what other pattern seems more like it was made for the watch pocket? :D

Thanks TsarBomba, this took a while to find but it was completely worth it. Love the 85's.
Great pick for your day~

Primble makes the first magnificent compound parry and riposte to Ron's first thrust! I sense Ron is ready to parry with one of his rarely seen techniques from the vault:eek:

Something simple for me today

20817440145_e4043e9bcc_b.jpg

Is that Westinghouse Gev? A beauty

The best of the best in the forum knives, IMO !:)

Tim - A great photo of you forum 85!

Some 1970's Case Muskrat love is the show me for today and the old faithful friend in Red is the use me for today! :D

Thank you Primble & Ron, I agree with Dean, you and Rob have to fight it out for King of the 70's Case knives.
Thanks my friend, nice wallet, thanks for the back-story :) That's a great photo of a beautiful knife

Anytime Jack, my favourite forum knife

Really like that combination in your knife, very sweet.

Thanks Mitch, my favourite 85 hands down.

Going with Tidioute Tuesday, a beautiful 73 from Paul, my father asked me to help him break this in for him a bit since the pull too stiff for him currently to open it.

I haven't posted here in awhile. Things got a bit busy and then we spent a little time in Palm Beach and I was pretty much away from the forum. We're home now, waiting for the next snow.
Not a new picture of my Halfrich Small Rounder, but it's in my pocket today.

Nice knives and pics guys!

Some beautiful choices by everyone today! :) I toted this 70's Case 6380 Whittler in my slip and this Chestnut SBJ in my watch pocket today. I didn't think I was every going to get all them greasy fingerprints from the lunch table wiped back off my whittler! You would think some of these young uns have never seen a real knife before!:rolleyes: Recycled photos its raining! :D:eek:

gevonovich - it is called a gradall, basically a large 4-wheel drive fork-truck..

Everyone else. Thanks for all the welcomes!

Now that is a gorgeous looking edge tool Gevonovich. Great picture to capture it!

Back from Asia to find this guy in the mail.
I've been hunting one down for all of 2015 and now I know why they are so well received. :D

\

Thank you for the your kind words! I really appreciate the compliment.

Fantastic picture of a super gorgeous knife! Glad your home safe!

Glad that such a distinguished fella has been made usable for the next 100 years. Great find! The Cutsure is rapidly becoming one of my more beloved Barlows. When I find the right kind of display case for my best Barlows, I think it will be front and center among them. It's still going to end up in the watch pocket every so often, however. :D

That's a beautiful Saynor hawk!

1980 Queen Rawhide series #8075, 1973 Case #6250, and 1972 Case #11031SH

Wonderful wood and I only wish I has such a green thumb!

Primble

Thanks you and I'm very happy to show it! I can't wait to see your next move! Loving the show:thumbup::thumbup:

Ron
The whittler is off the charts wondrous....wow! All this red bone is a treat!!!

HST
Love the damascus on that one!!

SVTFreak
Your Davidson is fabulous! The car project is coming alone well...I hope!

A-love
Very interesting and thank you:D

Gary

Fantastic to see you back and of course to see the trusty Rounder always:thumbup::thumbup: Stay warm:D

Tim
Thank you, Sir!! I really don't know if the knife is original or not. I have never seen Westinghouse in person so I can't make a comparison. If it was recovered, and it may well be, whomever did a wonderful job:) Great picture as usual and I hope the knife smooths out well for your father:thumbup::thumbup:

First day to carry my first, but definitely not last, Davison. I really love pretty much everything about this knife.

You picked a good looking 73 !:)

Alright Jack and Rob, let's see if this works!

It worked ! That is a beauty Jake and I like the small lures !:)

Ron, I agree with Dean, you and Rob have to fight it out for King of the 70's Case knives.

Problem is that around here, whoever gets crowned king can easily get knocked off their perch if they blink a time or two ! ;):D:D:D I ilke the patina on the Opinel !:)

I could just go with the pocket watch group shot and call it a day ! ;):D:D:D Shhh - don't tell nobody, but, I think he is running out of old redbones since he put that swayback horse in the race today. ;):D

I'll be sending my Wildcats down to Knoxville a week from tonight to straighten him out ! ;):D

I only wish I had the skill to get close to one on foot, r8shell:D

I was driving through a heavily wooded area in College Station and he was chasing something across the road. I only saw a flash to the right and then him coming from the left, on the other side of the road. I hit the brakes and he zoomed in front of me, across the road and into the thicket after his quarry! It was a bright crisp cold day so I got a good look and thrill

Ron
Keep the red bone beauties coming....wow! Your driving Primble into a game of dueling red bones;) Thanks for your kind words.
...
Gev, thanks for the details on the bobcat sighting!
I feel pretty fortunate to be able to witness this red bone repartee!:thumbup:

GT - Thanks for the compliment :) That RR Canoe is a terrific looking knife!

Thanks for the RR canoe compliment, Ron. :) The RR checkered bone is VERY appealing, I think!
But then in a totally different league, there's the vintage Case red bone you and Primble are flashing this week!:thumbup::D

Bravo! Bravo! Bravissimo!!! :thumbup::eek::eek::thumbup:
Thanks for sharing those red bone Cases with us, Primble and Ron!!

...GT - thank you for all of your nice comments - good to see you back. The weather was in the mid forties today and a lot of our snow melted. Supposed to rain tonight and that will melt some more. The wind carved snow drifts were quite beautiful, I must say. Lastly - I cleaned my outdoor photo spot off today, so I am back in business. ;):D:D:D
Thanks for the weather update, Primble. :) Glad to hear that your "best spot" for photos is back in operation (but I'd welcome hearing your thoughts on setting up indoor lighting).

...
Thanks GT! The second one is not actually a knife sheath, but a carry case for an Arkansas Oilstone that belonged to my dad. I found it recently, and know nothing about it but am keeping it for sentimental reasons.

Terrific Trio sir
Thanks, Tom, and thanks for setting me straight on the oilstone case; wonderful memento to have!:cool:

...
I have only enough pocket real estate for a single folder today, so I went with a John Lloyd Lanny's Clip.

Yowza, I forgot about that amazing knife, Tom!!

Thank you my good sir, I thought I'd go with the Rope Knife again today, and a different TC :)

Very distinguished pair, Jack! Either would go well with anything, and together they're primo!!

...I'm carrying my gifted Appauloosa today.

Splendid knife, Dean, and I really like the appropriate name you've given it!:D

Very nice! I'm by no means a sea-faring man, but I have this strong urge to get some kind of nautical knife!

...
I'm right there with you with the canoe, although to date the only ones I own are a trio of NKCA gunboat 1978 club knives, one of which has found its way into my carry rotation (spear, pen, and spey blade, plenty of utility there).

I may have to set up security around my Cutsure! :D Thanks, GT!

What do you think of your 18OT? I ended up with a Taylor-made Schrade #804 "anniversary" splitback whittler, and while Taylor's issues are well-documented around here it is overall a pretty nice knife. Tsar, I think I have 4 Taylor Schrade Old Timers, and they seem to be quite comparable in quality to the 3 Schrade USA models I have. The color of the handles doesn't quite match the originals, and the Chinese blades are all stainless, but to me those are cosmetic rather than functional issues. I do think the center pins on all of my Taylor Schrade Old Timers sit too high, and interfere with the comfort of my grip. Your whittler looks good!

forget it....photobucket sucks
Alright Jack and Rob, let's see if this works!

Sorry to hear about the ongoing problems with PhotoBucket. :( FWIW, I saw your pic this morning, and if you were "fishing for compliments" with those lures, you caught a whopper from me: that Davison is fabulous!!:thumbup:

Haha thanks GT. It was there and then I saw that it got deleted somehow from my photobucket library so it disappeared from my post. So I waited a few hours and tried it again and it worked. Hallelujah! Now if only I can get them Crappies to take the bait!
