What "Traditional Knife" are ya totin' today?

I've got to find one of those rabbit holes! Fantastic looking knife Rob, from the shield and covers to the blade.

Walnut and ebony for me on this Wooden Wednesday.

Thank you Dean and a fine pair of wood you are totin' today !:)

For wooden wendsday I have a most generous gift from Mr Paul Hilborn, I was asking him about this model and he just up and sent it! I love everything about it. Thank you Paul very much

Very fine Case and Paul just being Paul ! ;):D:thumbup:

Nice, Mr. Primble!
For Wooden Wednesday, I had this #47 Rosewood Viper along for the ride! :D I hope everyone has had a good one!

Thank you Mr. Halfstop and the Rosewood snake is very fine !:)

'm about to hit the hay here, with an early start in the morning, but I'll be carrying these two tomorrow :)

Traveling in style tomorrow Mr. Jack.:thumbup::)

Just amazing Mr. Primble !!!!!

Harry

Thank you Harry. :)

Carrying my Case-Bose Lockback Wharncliffe Whittler today. The miniature anvil and tongues in the picture were made by my Father in Law, as a toy or keepsake for my wife and her sister, sometime in the late 1940s. He was a Blacksmith on the New York Central Railroad. They were charged with making all the tools required for maintenance of the rails etc. We've got a few of the old tools he forged and handled.

:thumbup::thumbup::)

This pair is in my pocket today

and a very nice pair P&G !:)

That Barlow is incredible. I love the bolster stamp.

Thank you Jeff ! :thumbup::)

I've wanted one of these ever since they came out in the late 90s a Lone Wolf/Bob Loveless slipjoint The City Knife, the Wharncliffe blade is needle sharp. It comes with a solid half-stop and walk/talk is very crisp. Perfectly centered blade with a pull of about a 6 which for a blade this size is what I like to call accurate, (perfect pull for the length of the blade in relation to the handle) accurate ;) . The micarta scales with the red liner accent is all Loveless. I may never own a Bob Loveless knife but a Loveless designed traditional slipjoint is the next best thing. :)

Glad to see you're enjoying that one thoroughly Ted :)
For a knife that's..almost 2 decades old it's incredible. The history on that one alone makes it priceless.

Paul is just that kind of a guy. Incredibly generous. Great looking Case Drew :)

Fantastic photo, Tim! The Force is strong in this one.

Walnut and ebony for me on this Wooden Wednesday.

Thank you Dean, Winter is the best and worst time of the year for a photographer to take some photos. Lots of overcast light but also very short hours in the day.

My coffee totin' knife for this morning before my trusty Opinel started the day.

Queen scout today.

Great combo and contrast. Is that Queen wearing buffalo pants? :D

Grandfather's old Boker 9695 today [emoji846]

I take it that special shield is your doing? :o

I'm carrying the one in the middle...
... as well as the one on the left. :o
(The whittler is in my pocket, the Farmer's Jack is riding in its usual sheathed spot alongside an LTKW Patriot.)

A shame, because that mottled blue bone on that Wharncliffe whittler is one of the nicest knives I've seen here, period. :)

A real lambsfoot and a real peanut!

I think that settles it. I'm going to need to get myself a Wright lambsfoot for a Wooden Wednesday in the near future. :p

I ordered this North River Forge Custom Frontier Belt Knife about five months ago and it came in today, so I have been totin' it around, as well.
1095 steel, Curly Maple, and 9 inches OAL:

I see your taste in fixed-blades is as immaculate as it is in folders.

Carrying these 2 today !!! It is pretty grey out today , so have to use some older pictures.

That is some incredible stag, OE!

Should take more photos of my trusty Opinel. The patina forms nicely on this one.

A good honest patina for a good honest knife. And to think there are people out there who don't like what happens to carbon steel when it's used...

Strictly Sheffield today! :D A TEW-made Lambsfoot, and my IXL Serpentine Jack sitting in front of the last intact steel cementation furnace in Britain (there were once more than 150 in Sheffield alone)

A two-blade lambsfoot? Have you thought about converting the second blade to a caplifter? ;) :D :D :D

I'm liking my first elk stag...

And I'm liking that 301. Is that in "dymondwood" like the other versions I've seen with that shield? Either way, I really like the hue. Not that your stag isn't also excellent.

From my newly expanded NYKC rabbit hole:

Listen, you already got all the nice Catts... ;) That Barlow is as close to 'grail' for me as a non-Catt can be, and that bone is incredible.

A new peanut arrived yesterday and is in the pocket today.:)
It has very translucent green dyed, curly maple scales that are incredible to see if you let the sun play back and forth through them.

Is that factory from Case or is it a rehandle? I have some insane thoughts coming to mind about certain patterns with those covers... :o

I usually prefer the serpentine whittler pattern and a non-locking main but those broad Bose blades are just working with that sleeveboard.

Been loving the slimline trapper. Very thin in pocket.

I really like the EO on that style, yet I never would have thought so for such a thin handle. Thanks for sharing!

Today I'm carrying a Northwoods Whittler and a Vic Cadet.

Hey, mammoths were Monday! :D

For wooden wendsday I have a most generous gift from Mr Paul Hilborn, I was asking him about this model and he just up and sent it! I love everything about it. Thank you Paul very much

Such a generous gentleman, and that's one heck of an example for a first 11031SH. Gotta love the porch! I imagine you've already realized just what a pleasure that knife is to carry, and it is a fine user too. Plus that walnut looks fantastic, doesn't it? :)

For Wooden Wednesday, I had this #47 Rosewood Viper along for the ride! :D I hope everyone has had a good one!

This may have been the year of the Viper so far but I have a feeling once those 77s get going that'll change. :p That's an awesome 47 for WW, regardless. Great knife!

Just got this S&M Heritage and playing around with it today.

Looks like the perfect watch pocket knife to spell one's Barlows on WW, or perhaps to complement them. :D

That Wharnie almost looks like it has a bit of a belly on it. That's a great little knife, glad you managed to secure one.

Today's loadout (minus Mac -- he was out having a smoke break for the photo), a couple for WW in addition to my challenge knife. The MAM arrived yesterday, so essentially went from pouch last night to pocket this morning. What a cool little knife, thanks for the pointer GT!

Got this little Ireland-era Imperial in an antique store for $5 while on a business trip. It cleaned up nicely (just needs to a good sharpening). Any consensus on what the pattern is?

Actually no sir - that is the factory tree shield after decades of pocket carry and use. You have to hold it just right in the light to see any trace of the tree brand remaining.

Even better! I figured it had suffered the same fate so many Bokers I've seen recently have (including r8shell's). Turns out if the shields can stay intact they look pretty good even worn. :D

If I'm right about the size, that'd be the Imperial peanut jack.

Forced a patina this morning with hot apple cider vinegar. I know it's not for everyone, but I like the look!

Looks fantastic to me. Are those scales bone?

That is sa-WEET!

Great combo and contrast. Is that Queen wearing buffalo pants? :D

It is TB, I think they look great too. And the blade came screaming sharp as well, I am overall really happy with it :).

My love of pocketable fixed blades relegates my single blade folders to house duty mostly, so I am giving my Lloyd Lanny's Clip some air today.

5K Qs

It's not bad! No excessive gaps, blade locks open with no play at all, opens smoothly enough (there are some bumps as it opens but they're smooth, no grit or gunk or anything). Spring is a hair proud when open but overall, especially for under $10, I can't complain.
...
Thanks for the additional info on the Old Forge, Carboniferous; much appreciated.

Thanks GT, lots of luck lately ;) fantastic combo for the week. I need to find another sodbuster one of these days.
...
Thanks, Tim. I'd have never guessed that I would care for a sodbuster, but once I got one, I liked it a lot; I think I have 3 of them now!

...
Many thanks GT  Freaky! Report just on the radio right now of Paul McCartney being refused entry to a nightclub! ...That's one of the old British Naval cannons outside the Royal Armouries Museum in Leeds, the knife is actually resting on another ...

Strictly Sheffield today! :D A TEW-made Lambsfoot, and my IXL Serpentine Jack sitting in front of the last intact steel cementation furnace in Britain (there were once more than 150 in Sheffield alone) ...

Interesting info on the cannons, Jack. I find that kind of history at least mildly interesting. My daughter took me to the Plaza de Espana in Sevilla, Spain, and we discovered a military museum that she was unaware of. I found it fascinating; she was not as enthralled! :o
I always enjoy seeing those blades stamped "Real Lamb Foot", but wonder about the reason for that. Was there once a plague of faux lambsfeet inflicted on the British countryside??

Giving my "new" imperial peanut a turn in the rotation today!
Nice one, Ernie! I'm quite the Imperial fanboy, I guess. ;)

Sweet stag knife and cool photo, Cory! I have to admit I don't recognize maker or model; can you educate me, please?

I'm liking my first elk stag...
Very fine elk Buck, Peter! (Now if you could find an elk Doe, you could start breeding some very desirable knives!! :D)

From my newly expanded NYKC rabbit hole:

Stunning, Primble!! All this talk about rabbit holes for some reason reminds me of a Bugs Bunny cartoon with Elmer Fudd sneaking around saying something like, "Be vewy quiet! I'm hunting for cwassic fowders!" Except Elmer was kind of a doofus and screw-up; I think we'd all agree that Primble is neither!! :p

Carried these 3 with me this morning to take Nancy to work and then checked on the Car on The Lake.

Harry
That's a venerable trio of splendid knives, Harry!

Wooden Wednesday indeed...

Funky patina, Joel!!

Thank you GT. That muskrat of yours has a main that appears to be a decendant of my old NYKC Trapper's main. ...
Could be, I guess. It sure would be interesting to see a "family tree" of pocket knives illustrating who was related to whom, and how, in terms of patterns, blades, manufacturers, etc. But I suppose it would be quite a tangled web!!

It is 3.5 inches long GT, so pretty standard length. It feels a little wider than others so maybe it appears shorter. Wait, are you calling my knife fat? ;) :)
...
I might call your knife big-boned, but never FAT!! :D

...
Thanks, GT. That Pocket Pal deserves a second look. I have one and really should carry it, a great penknife.
...
Walnut and ebony for me on this Wooden Wednesday.
Wondrous wood, Dean! What's the deal with the "moneybag" on which they rest?
I really like the Pocket Pal, although I think I'd rather have a Vic Popular if opportunity knocked. My Pocket Pal is a bit disappointing; it's the only Vic I have that's kind of shoddily built, with rough edges and gaps all along the backspring.

...
Today I'm carrying a Northwoods Whittler and a Vic Cadet.

Ken K.
That's a very pleasant shade of green Alox on your Cadet, Ken! I have a Farmer in that color that I really like.

For wooden wendsday I have a most generous gift from Mr Paul Hilborn, I was asking him about this model and he just up and sent it! I love everything about it. Thank you Paul very much

Voluptuous Viper, Ron! How about a group shot sometime of your Vipers in all their variety?

Been carrying this Case Medium Stockman this week.

Old pic, but the knife looks about the same.
Classic Case, John!

...
I'm about to hit the hay here, with an early start in the morning, but I'll be carrying these two tomorrow :)

TC stands for "Twin Charlows"!

Just got this S&M Heritage and playing around with it today.

Yowza, Matt, that silver on black is superb!!

Terrific triple play, TB!! Glad you like the MAM; how do you like the liner lock? Cool little Imperial!

Gotta love a nice old Imperial!! Don't know an official name for the pattern; I just call it a serpentine jack.

This week my rotation also includes an A Wright senator in stag and a 2014 Forum knife with covers modified by Markesharp.

Nice-looking Jack Matt, what's the fit and finish like?

Congratulations Ted, interesting knife

Traveling in style tomorrow Mr. Jack.:thumbup::)

Thank you sir, life is better with a Barlow - or two! ;) :D

A two-blade lambsfoot? Have you thought about converting the second blade to a caplifter? ;) :D :D :D

Briefly, but then I thought about being haunted by the tortured souls of old cutlers! :p ;)

Congratulations on the new MAM, nice line-up my friend

Terrific pics everyone!

Thanks for the comment GT. Very nice mod on the forum knife.

Excellent Viper Ron and S&M heritage Matt.

Today it's a GEC 92 and a Vic Classic.

The Royal Armouries museum in Leeds has the largest collection of arms and armour in Europe. I did a pic thread with just the knives once, but all the photos are probably un-hosted now :( You sometimes see old knives marked 'Real Knife'! :D

Smashing knives today GT, how are you finding the Lambsfoot?

Cool pic

It is TB, I think they look great too. And the blade came screaming sharp as well, I am overall really happy with it :).

My love of pocketable fixed blades relegates my single blade folders to house duty mostly, so I am giving my Lloyd Lanny's Clip some air today.

No fixed blade today, this may be unprecedented! That's one stylish Lloyd, and I want to make my Camillus scout look as good as yours some day. :)

Glad you like the MAM; how do you like the liner lock?
...
This week my rotation also includes an A Wright senator in stag and a 2014 Forum knife with covers modified by Markesharp.

The lock isn't the most substantial, but that is to be expected on a $10 friction folder. It unlocks the "opposite" way from most liner locks I'm used to, so I always have to keep that in mind when I close the knife up, and nobody would ever mistake the lock for one as strong as, say, the typical TL-29/scout knife screwdriver lock, but as a basic measure of protection it's a neat little addition. I don't think the UK need worry about that sliver of brass liner, though, so it's unfortunate that they arbitrarily prevent people from carrying it.

The knife itself is light and easy to control, carries a thinner profile than the round Opinels, and disappears into the pocket very nicely for one that is technically longer and thicker than its spiritual cousins such as the 11031SH. I expect it'll get a lot of WW carry going forward.

That Wright is incredible. Wasn't the '14 forum knife also originally in stag? Mark has done an admirable job on yours, you've got a pair of beauties in your pocket for sure!

Briefly, but then I thought about being haunted by the tortured souls of old cutlers! :p ;)
Congratulations on the new MAM, nice line-up my friend

Thank you, sir. Keep an eye on the "new arrivals" thread in the next day or two, one of mine might be of some interest to you and yours out Sheffield way. :D

Feeling blue:

I'm sensing a pattern here. :D That #25 always shows out for me whenever you post photos of it. If GEC had run them in a green version of that mottled Appy-like bone I'd probably be broke alrjavascript:;eady. :o

Today it's a GEC 92 and a Vic Classic.

Argyle, Ken? I hope you're at least wearing some matching socks, or a nice matching ascot. ;) :p
AG Regular Jack

Love the lines on those Russells, and while I generally don't care for the dual nail nick/long pull on any one blade it just kinda works with the angles and texture of yours. Plus that gorgeous bone is outstanding and the finish on the steel completes the package. That is one incredible folder.

Today's carry is largely unaltered from the rest of this (non-Wooden Wednesday) week's. I ended up tossing my new Case peanut into the slip and bringing it with me after opening it upon arrival at home just last night. Couldn't help myself. :D

Is that factory from Case or is it a rehandle? I have some insane thoughts coming to mind about certain patterns with those covers... :o

][/url]

It is factory through AG Russell so I think it is probably a SFO. However, I think it would look even better on a larger knife.
