What "Traditional Knife" are ya totin' today?

Just got this Northwoods medium stockman in stag, nice knife, D2 blades, made in Gladstone MI

I've recently discovered the Case Saddlehorn. Never liked the look of it ... then I held one. LOVE it - fills the hand nicely & clip blade has a really nice swedge grind that we don't see often on Case knives. It's a winner ...

I recently picked up this Hen and Rooster from AG Russell's website, one of the finest knives I have ever handled. 1950s vintage, worth the sticker price IMO.

That is a gorgeous half congress, Justin! I had a hard time dragging my eyes away form it. Great choice.

Picked these 2 up yesterday when we were out and about getting cheese in Broadhead and have been carrying them today .

Some clean-up was required on each one , but not much at all on either . Both are very sound knives.
Would appreciate anyone being able to tell me who made the Wards for them.

…GT, very good closeup of the SBJ,

...The Pioneer knows exactly what to do after a hike!

…
...Two thumbs way up for that Swayback Jack!:thumbup:
…
The Farmer's Jack was with me on the trails today. It sure does cut well! :)

Thanks for the kind words about that swayback jack, jrawk, Steve, and Dean.
jrawk, that’s a cool pic, but why is the tang stamp reversed? (Is the person in the driver’s or the passenger seat?)
Steve, that’s a nice color for your Pioneer!
Dean, on the basis of your testimonial, I think I’ll have to get some experience with a hawkbill blade!

I paired a Beer Scout with a modern today, trying something a bit different for me.

Tom, that white Beer Scout looks prime! How’d your experiment pairing it with a modern folder go?

This little H&R Whittler ... I can't put my finger on why, but I really like this knife.

I can see why you like it, btmac; it looks practically perfect!

:D I don't think beer horn is Munchen kind of thing only, but you certainly should have those around there. We are going there this summer. I am planning to pick traditional Bavarian nicker knife there, and maybe lederhosen to go with that. ;)
…
I love that you can carry grand pa knife!
....
Enjoy your trip to Germany! Looking forward to a photo showing off your new beer horn, knife, and lederhosen; I like the idea of wearing a strop!
My toothpick is the same MODEL my grandpa used to carry, but unfortunately it’s not the same exact KNIFE that my grandpa owned.

Picked this #66 medium stockman up from the exchange last week, and gave it my usual "PPP" (Pocket Protective Patina) before carrying it. ;)

Congrats on the pleasant new-to-you #66, Jeff; the patina looks great!

…Today it's a GEC 28 in snakewood and a Vic Popular.

Ken K.
Peachy pair, Ken; always enjoy seeing your Popular!

You can be proud of that pair, FBC! The plush pocket pouch and the polished bone on your #55 look phenomenal together!

Pulchritudinous pair, Tom! I read about knives here, of course, but I rarely have the chance to actually TALK about knives; how is "Camillus" pronounced? Does it sound more like "Camel Lust" (accent on first syllable) or roughly rhyme with "vanillas" (accent on second syllable)?

Tuna Valley Railsplitter
Cool photo, Mike! I enjoy tuna on toast now and then, but your toasty stag on that Tuna Valley is pretty pleasing too!

Peerless, posh pen, Ernie!

...
today, as most days...

This one has just become like a part of me, it just stays in the pocket day after day, week, month...I don't even think about carrying a different knife anymore. I wasn't looking for it to happen, but somewhere along the line I realized that I wasn't looking in the drawer anymore perusing my knives and deciding which one to pocket for the next day.

perhaps it set it's roots into me, or maybe I'm just getting older, but it is comforting to reach in the pocket and know that this one will most always be sitting in the same orientation that it was pocketed in. Something about the curved shape and weight of it. I don't even know it's in the pocket, so I check often, maybe I'm just reassured by touching it, while waiting in line, or pumping gas into the car.
Powerful Powderhorn praise, Duane! I admire your loyalty to and satisfaction with that preeminent toothpick!

I have been so busy lately that I find myself in catch up mode again this week. ...

Tuesday's carry was this 56 Dogleg Jack:)
...
Wednesday's carry was this 83 in Cocobolo:)
...
Thursday's carry was a Buck 301 Stockman:)
...
Today I was totin' my old faithful 73 and his new partner Big Red :D
...
Sorry to hear you had such a busy week, Ron, but it was also a premium week with all those classics you got to carry!

Picked up this Lloyd last Friday, been carrying it all week and the 52100 patina is coming along nicely. This is one tough knife.

image_zpshzkltpg0.jpeg
I can certainly see why you prize that one, Ben! Pure professional!

...
Perhaps I was a little too literal with the "old" part, but it was nice to get my Queen 'nut and the Imperial cattle knife into the pockets today, a place both obviously spent a lot of time over the years:

Nice old friends there, TB. Is that Imperial sporting bone covers? I'm much more familiar with their shell construction knives, and I don't think I've come across an example like yours (love the long pull and swedge), do you know how old it is?
+5K!!! Gotta agree with Rachel, Tsar. You can be proud of that prestigious pair! I admire a lot of your knives, but had no idea you had ones as precious as these!

...Toted this New York Knife Company Jack today:
ekak8.jpg
In case you haven't noticed, in this post, I've been working through the "p-words" in the little list of complimentary synonyms I put together for myself. And Primble, they ALL apply to that NYKC jack: premium, provocative, pristine, priceless, to choose just a few words that might be left over!

I have really been enjoying single springs and pearl lately. Pearl handled Victorinox accountant, Hen and Rooster Half Congress, and a Canal Street Ring Opener.

I recently picked up this Hen and Rooster from AG Russell's website, one of the finest knives I have ever handled. 1950s vintage, worth the sticker price IMO.
...
All three are refined and resplendent, Justin! (Moving into my "R-list" now.)

Well it's already tomorrow here. This is what I was carrying yesterday:

Nice, Joel; looks like AG Russell has at least two "pearls of great price" between you and JustinR!

Wonderful knives all!! I haven't been on the porch too much of late, we are selling our house and buying another and as many of you know that is an all encompassing affair! But it is a very positive step for our family so very worth the stress and long days for sure. Had this one on me today, one of my favorites.

Best wishes for your move, Drew! That Kabar Barlow rocks!

... Went on the first hike of the season this morning, and it was also the first outing with my new LT Wright Gary Wines Bushcrafter. Case Sowbelly tagged along as well.

Two cute couples; both the knives and the people are ravishing! (Of course, I'm not calling either of you humans a sowbelly!!)

Respected old Barlow, H & S! Congrats!

Totin' these 2 for the day. The Case teardrop was also along for Stag Saturday. :)

Ritzy pair, Ron! And with the Forum down each time I happened to check yesterday, I completely forgot about Stag Saturday!! I wonder if there were any new posts in that thread yesterday?

My Northwoods Madison today and the whole weekend. Turkey hunting starts tomorrow so we made it a long weekend.

Good luck with the gobblers, Macchina! Quality NMB!

...
My carries today.

Rapturous pair, Tom; I like the "change of pace" in the composition.

I've got more interesting knives. Knives with more sentimental value. But lately this Case punch-stockman keeps finding its way into my pocket. I'm finding it really useful to have an awl/punch tool with me.
...
Just sharpened up this little Camillus Remington. The size of a Buck 305, but with 3 blades!

Also in the week's rotation, the ever present Coyote and his Terrier cousin.
...
I'm getting to be like a certain mathematician I know, what with laying out the week's rotation of knives, and then just putting them all in my pockets. :D
Rachel, I know that weekly carry style is radical and ridiculous, but don't you agree that it's almost all pros and no cons (as long as you've got a sturdy belt)? I like your Remington; the 2-tone green covers have to be one of the most recognizable looks for an old folder.

Two from the junk store yesterday. A KaBar Barlow and an unknown advertising mini Barlow made in Japan.

That's a rich-looking stockman! Congrats, Gary!

That rare (to me) knife looks remarkable each time you post it, Jolipapa!

...
Today I went with a GEC 66 and a Vic Cadet II.

Ken K.
Both are renowned knives, Ken; high quality pairing!

Nostalgia weekend for me; I carried the knives I had before I ever discovered BladeForums and The Porch.
Colonial Forest-Master, my first knife from about 1960:
IMx0aU6l.jpg

Colonial SAK-clone (pretty darn similar to my Forest-Master, but with red covers and a corkscrew). Not exactly sure when I got it, but my wife may have picked it up for me sometime in the late 1980s and I carried it sporadically for a couple of summers in the early 90s:
dbBUzIll.jpg

Belknap Blue Grass Barlow that I think came with my wife when we got hitched. Spent many years in my window repair bucket before I rescued it:
mgXcUihl.jpg

Imperial serpentine jack, 3 1/8", also came with my wife; she got it from her Dad sometime in the late 70s, probably, and gave it to me one afternoon in January 2014. I enjoyed cleaning it up, decided to start carrying a knife again after about 45 years of not doing so, and started down the "road to ruin":

An original Leatherman that my wife gave me for Christmas when they first came out:

Another SAK clone, one of a set of 6 knives/multitools that my wife got me for a different Christmas.

I probably should have added a disclaimer, "Destruction of trees pictured was not done with the Farmer's Jack." :D

Nice nostalgia photos and journey down memory lane, GT.

Absotively! Nothing ridiculous about it. I am not as organized as you, but I choose a hard-working knife I don't mind getting messy, a knife to keep clean for food, a tiny knife for delicate detail work, and a cool vintage knife for style and light use. That's not obsessive, is it?

Beautiful weekend weather here in the Shenandoah valley. I like the way dyed camel bone looks different depending on the light.

R8shell, without order, there is chaos! (I think that came from a movie...maybe "Big Trouble in little China". :) )

Very nice looker!

Great knives and stories... That makes them even more special!! I still have my original Letterman my wife sent me when I deployed to Desert Storm. Leather pouch.

I have kept this one pristine since I received it from my wife 02/14/16. BUT today I initiate a natural patina. It is time this one look like the user it is.

Thanks, when not in my pocket, it lives on my side table next to the recliner so I can CF and CE it all the time.

Here is my carry for today. I just recently landed the Case pen knife and it is like new from the best I can tell (I actually got it from a local shop that deals mainly in new knives but has a case full of older and gently used slipjoints...full retail prices mind you)

Took the sowbelly for a spin at work, and while it did work I don't like the lack of liners. I fear wobble will develop from my hard use and i don't feel confident peening it as a linerless knife. No sheepsfoot and the blades opening differntly than a stockman also made it kinda difficult to use, but I tried a few cuts in the vinyl anyways. It's great for EDC but not for work. Tomorrow I test out how my Cuban cuts siding.
